  EurotaxGlass's predicted the vehicle will hang onto 18 per cent more of its list price after 12 months than the equivalent Audi car. It suggested the model would still be worth about nine per cent more than its rival after three years on the road. Commenting on the reasons behind this, head of market intelligence Jason King said: "A striking new look, luxurious and modern interiors and much improved build quality have all helped to make the XF one of last year's best sellers.

  The model was named the country's vehicle of the year, ahead of rivals such as the Citroen C5, Audi A4 and Jaguar XF. Some of the qualities of the car which the judges were particularly impressed with included its design and space efficiency. Awarded more than double the number of points given to its nearest competitor, the model was also praised for its high levels of safety and low CO2 emissions.

  Taking the title given to Toyota last year, Mazda also saw off competition from runners-up Audi, BMW, Lexus and Honda. Racing legend Sir Stirling Moss OBE presented the award at the ceremony at the British Museum to Mazda managing director Rob Lindley.   The company has commented that it shifted approximately 1.57 million units over the period, adding that this represents a seven per cent hike over the previous year.   The 9k mile 06 Aston Martin V8 Vantage in the photo sold for £45,300, but another, 2006/56 with 19k miles, only bid to a provisional £41,800 (though may have sold post sale). Not everything was on the floor. A 9k mile 07 Audi A5 3.0TDI quattro Sport with surface scratches in the lacquer made a very strong £30,000. And a 41k mile 3 year old A6 Avant with the 3.0 V6 and quattro drivetrain, but ‘comfort’ 16” wheels was slightly over book at £16,200.

An 03 reg Audi TT 225 roadster heard the hammer fall at £10,550. Among the tintops, a mega-mile 2000X Celica went for just £3,000. An 04 Rover 75 1.8T with satnav, 25k miles unwarranted and the Frankenstein facelift sold for £4,900.
