  • Resuming Driving 27 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I know someone who learned to drive in their mid-twenties. They have only had one car which was written off in a bizarre accident. After a 30 year break he now wants to resume driving. I suggested that before he even test drives any cars he takes a few lessons to get up to speed.

  • Unknown - Part time four wheel drive 17 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Are there any cars out there that normally run in two wheel drive but can be switched to four wheel drive for the occasional bad weather days. This would avoid the cost of permanent four wheel drive. Or has development over the years brought better economy for the 4x4 car?
  • any - driving for the first time overseas 3 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I've had plenty of experience now as a new driver on the roads around London and south east England and am enjoying my drives on the whole.  One aspect of driving that I was always desperate to do even before I learned to drive was to drive abroad.  Now I can finally do it, or well so I thought.  I understand that minimum requirement for most countries to rent a car is the requirement of holding your license for at least a year.
  • Thinking of driving on the continent or in the US 20 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am going to have a bit of time on my hands in the next couple of months, and so am thinking about taking a trip to the continent or the US with the family, perhaps on a bit of a driving holiday. Now, although I passed my test 10 years ago, I have only actually been driving for the past couple of months, and even then have probably only done about 800 miles, probably 200 of city driving and the rest A roads and motorways.

  • How to drive in snow? 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Thought it will be appropriate to open this thread in view of recent weather. I have no previous experience of driving in this kind of snow. Today morning I've skidded once (no damage). So, what are the suggestions for driving in snow and slush?
  • Driving in Switzerland 14 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've heard that I need some sort of tax disc/sticker before I can drive in Switzerland, I'm driving to France and then going across the boarder. Any ideas about this (how much and where can they be bought)?
  • How much better is 4 wheel drive? 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)

  • Grading of driving instructors. 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I am looking for a driving instructor for my daughter. I have spoken to three, but the last one tells me that he is graded as being a level 5.5 on a scale of 1 to 6 presumably by the driving instructing test school. Also that he is "Gold advanced".
  • Bad Driving 10 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Very awkward siuation the other day. Had a lift in a car with girlfriend's sister's fiancé and was appalled at his standard of driving. Hogging the right hand lane with no other traffic about, little indication, tailgating, driving at up to an indicated 120mph, you name it he did it! How can you politely tell somebody their driving is so bad when they are kind enough to be giving you a lift?
  • Driving with international driver 20 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My mate drove my car to the airport today as he is leaving the UK (he is driving on international driving license and insure to drive my car) I was in the passenger sit and he was flashed by the camera twice while passing a junction in Bristol just when the light changed. Will this affect my provisional license as the car is registered to me and insured in my name (I am still driving with my international American license) I don't mind paying his fine as It will end up in my mailbox but I am worry about my provisional.

  • Mobile Phone use when driving: Just a moral panic? 17 Jan 2017 (Forum)
If using a mobile phone when driving is all that bad then how come RTA death rates have continued to decline over that same period? There are already offence categories to cover dangerous / reckless driving - why not simply use these to prosecute motorists who have been proven to cause an accident through driving when using a mobile phone?

  • Test driving a private car - just passed 20 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have recently passed my driving test and am looking to buy a car and one of the avenues I am looking down is private sellers. I've read that to be able to test drive you need to be insured either on their insurance or have some of your own to be able to take a test drive.
  • Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 2001 1.9 drive shaft 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I recently before encountering this problem.down and 2 mechanics, 1 was the AA rescue man told me my clutch had gone. I replaced the clutch only to find the car still would not drive. On closer inspection the splines on the drive shaft were completely sheared off. I replaced the drive shaft. Since then it has not been easy to change gear between 1st and 2nd. Tonight I broke down again, and it's the drive shaft, same side once again.
