Top seller was the 1962 Maserati 3500 GTI Vignale convertible, selling for €553,500 - a world record price for the model. and well above the pre-sale estimate of €300,000-400,000. One of 242 examples built, this rare matching numbers GT car has been beautifully restored.

During the weekend Sir Stirling Moss was also reunited with a Maserati 250F (below) – being run by American driver Tom Price – to mark the famous 1956 Monaco Grand Prix victory by Moss in a sister car. Sir Stirling also returned to the Credit Suisse Drivers Club on Saturday morning for a fascinating and amusing fireside chat with Henry Hope-Frost to recall his competition career, including his memories of racing, and winning, at the Principality in both the Maserati in 1956, and a Lotus 18 in 1960 and 1961.

    New grids announced for this year’s event include Classic F3 and the Mustang Celebration Trophy, with Friday seeing qualifying races for every class followed by ten races each on the Saturday and Sunday. One of the highlights of the 2014 Silverstone Classic is the Maserati Centenary Parade, thanks to the decision to make this historic Italian manufacturer this year’s ‘Celebration Marque’. Sunday lunchtime will see a cavalcade featuring a record number of Maseratis, with competition and road cars parading around the full Silverstone circuit.
  • Bonhams shatters auction records at Goodwood 12 Jul 2013 (News)
      The ex-Fangio car becomes the most valuable motor vehicle ever sold at auction, beating the previous record of £10,086,400 set by a Ferrari in 2011. Bonhams also set a new world record highest price for a Maserati at auction, when a 1955 300S Sports-Racing Spider sold for £4,033,500. The previous record was £2,251,520 set in 2012. The result means Bonhams now holds the world records for the following marques at auction: Aston Martin (£3,200,000), Austin-Healey (£843,000), Bentley (£5,000,000), Maserati (£4,033,500), Mercedes-Benz (£19,601,500) and Rolls-Royce (£4,700,000).

    A 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe fetched €904,500 (£649,281), while a 1938 BMW 328 Roadster made €556,170 (£399,238). Other highlights included a 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS Spyder £229,471), a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE (£264,816), 1969 Porsche 911 S 2.2 Targa (£86,301) and a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL (£94,529). Other lots included a 1995 Porsche 993RS (£236,992), a 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT (£24,0891), a 1980 BMW M1 (£331,589) and a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe by H.J.

    Coys have lined up a superb selection of over 60 classic cars at Techno Classica.  They include a 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS Spyder (estimated at €250,000 to €300,000), a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE (€285,000 to €350,000) and a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe by H.J. Mulliner (€240,000 to €300,000).

    The collection, which ranges from the early days of motoring through to the 1970s, has been left untouched for 50 years. Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Talbot-Lago, Panhard-Levassor, Maserati, Ferrari, Delahaye, Delage – the collection includes cars from all these famous marques. But the headline cars are a Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spider and a Talbot Lago T26 that used to belong to King Farouk.

    Mini will, of course, remind us of the sensational win of the rally Monte Carlo 50 years ago. The centre stage in Hall Six will be hosting a special display of Maserati and Zagato sports cars. There will be a selection of Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Maserati fitted with the extraordinary and often eccentric bodywork by Zagato.     At least 21 cars made more than their estimates at Historics sale on 7 th March; 11 of them significantly more. The biggest gain was shown by a 1979 Maserati Khamsin 4.9V8, estimated at £75,000- £80,000, but actually sold for £128,800 inclusive, more than 50% over its top estimate. A 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 S2 roadster did well too, making £12,400 over its top estimate of £66,000.

  • Fiat to acquire remainder of Chrysler Group 2 Jan 2014 (News)
    The deal will mean more cooperation between Fiat, Chrysler, Lancia, Dodge, Jeep and Maserati brands – we may see a broader range of models on sale in the UK but most of the cooperation will be behind the scenes. That means shared technology between brands. Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive of FIAT and Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group, said “The unified ownership structure will now allow us to fully execute our vision of creating a global automaker that is truly unique in terms of mix of experience, perspective and know-how, a solid and open organisation that will ensure all employees a challenging and rewarding environment.”
  • Car design awards see BMW, Fiat win 11 Mar 2008 (News)
    The company gave the Car Design of the Year 2007 prize for production to Fiat for its Fiat 500 model, with the Maserati Gran Turismo and Audi A5 vehicles coming second and third respectively. It also handed a gong to the BMW Concept CS, which it named Car Design of the Year 2007 for a concept automobile, coming ahead of the Mazda Taiki and Citroen C-Cactus.

  • RM bags more than £21m at its London sale 11 Sep 2013 (News)
    The well-established RM London is now established as a highlight of the annual auction calendar, helping to re-establish the UK as a vitally important auction mcar market. The top selling lot was the 1957 Maserati 250S from the Laidlaw Competition Car Collection. It's an ex-Carroll Shelby and Jim Hall car, and the only 250S originally built with a 2.5-litre engine. It's a well-provenanced example, and fully justified its £2,128,000 sale price.
