• Real cost of owning VW 12 Jun 2001 (Forum)
  Of late I have been amazed at VW prices, even more so when you consider they have been required on 4/5 year old cars. - Polo A/C compressor - VW price £931 incl VAT, my supplier for same Sanden compressor, including shipping and VAT £699 - Polo Expansion valve - VW price £148, my supplier from Valeo £59 - Passat condenser - VW price £502, mine £249 - Passat expansion valve - VW price £148, mine from Valeo £59 Just goes to show 2 things, firstly the VW quality is no better than anything else, and someone somewhere is making a lot of money.

  I contacted her to say she should receive the new v5 with the old plates ck53 on it. I asked for the new v5c/2 with ck53. She said she sent the old v5 WW02 with proof of plate changes. She also said she will check if she received any new v5 from DVLA at the old address.

  So come 2021 I’ll probably be looking elsewhere, but as things stand I’ll remember this car, charisma-free old fogeywagon as it is, with significant affection.

  By the Sunday, the old problem had reared its head again. It woz not flipping fixed!!!!!!!! As soon as we are back from Cornwall, I take the car back to the dealer. That was a week ago. Despite promises that the car would be checked and myself updated by last Thursday, I have not heard a thing!!!!!

  Prices remain high with 3-4 year old models costing around £15k which was what I paid for my 2018 Golf at a year old. Hard to come to terms with especially as her current Mazda 3 is OK albeit a bit gutless on hills.

   In fact just with a slight flex of my big toe I was doing almost 90mph up an incline before I realised how fast I was going. Ooops!  Sound like a big kid rather than a 51 year old....Also remarkably economical for such a large and fast car. I'll take 41mpg anytime.  That's as good as the 899cc turbo triple in the Captur currently waiting patiently in the drive for its next ride.

  I replaced our old Nissan Terrano r3mR Auto 2.7 Diesel with a used 2004 Santa FE and have had the vehicle for about 18 months now. It was reasonably cheap at £1800 with 6 months tax and had 79,000 miles on the clock.

  I was trundling to theTip, this Sunday AM - listening to the rat tat tat of the direct injection diesel and with a truly massive old CRT television in the back. (Of the little Punto car based van- that is) Dang! arrived an hour too soon so rolled up onto the motorway to blow out the cobwebs and grab a coffee. Set off again and WHAM the TV did a double flip to land face down in the load bay - serves it right I thought for failing in the first Summer heat of a yesterday evening.

  Having sold my Defender prior to my extended backpacking holiday in sunny California, I am now looking for a car. During my 5 months of ownership, the 12 year old Defender was faultless,but totally unsuitable for all intended purposes, but I had an itch to own one since my teens and it proved a pain free experience.

  I'm just about to start a new job and have been sent the company car list. There are just 18 vehicles on it, 12 of which are Ford. This is in stark contrast to my old company who would let you have whatever you liked as long as you were prepared to pay for anything over your allowance.

  If I had been able to use this scheme above as well I would have got a further £1,283 off (7.5%) and £500 for the metallic paint i.e saving a further £1,783. This would have made a £22,000 car £15,317 new, from a dealer with 3 year warranty, free RAC cover, etc. You will not find a 1 year old Diesel S60 at a dealer for anything like as cheap, and this makes it a terrific bargain for those of you considering a BMW 3, Merc C Class, Audi A4 or even a Volvo S40!

  All this in spite of Renault having a policy of supplying spares for vehicles up to 10 years old. Keep in mind that the newest cars affected by this problem are still only 6 years old and you see that it's not a particularly satisfactory situation. Going back to the person I know with such a vehicle, their particular plight is as follows.

  I have no problem with the cars, as they all seem to be 34 year old cars minimum £5000, no one has complained, his not got any signs on the cars & only parks on his drive way or in his garage, any visitors park out side his driveway The questions is he allowed & should I be concerned?

  The issue is, I think, merely that the 'previous owner' didn't own the car as title doesn't pass until the last payment has been made. So Mr Stanley might lose his car, that I understand, but is he really liable for the outstanding finance. If the AA is correct, perhaps I shouldn't be so casual about buying unchecked old bangers that might have hundreds of thousands of pounds secured on them...
• Honda CR-V - Does new shock absorbers increase the driving comf 26 Sep 2022 (Forum)
  Hi, I would like ask if I can do anything to increase comfort of driving of my old CR-V (2009)? My current driving experience in this car is like driving a pick-up truck (driving is stiff / firm, lots of under the car noise, little like driving a tractor ), but CR-V is also a family car.

  I bought an approved used BMW (6 months old at the time of buying) a year ago and the car is still under manufacturer's warranty till next year. Few months ago, I noticed that the lane departure light was turning on but the sensor was not doing anything.

  A friend passed me this interesting and unusual advice which I guess applies to anyone any thinking of buying a second hand car-although in his case it is nearly always Golfs Every  three or four years he nearly always buys a car from a dealer( not necessarily VW) that has done around 60k, is around 6 years old.

  Hi, so I am in need of a new car as we have a baby on the way and my 2004 RS 182 is not big enough. I have been looking at varoius reviews of cars for weeks now, from 4X4's, Crossovers, sensible family cars but nothing interests me so I think i have narrowed it down to the following, I am looking at stuff about 4 years old and 4-5 door.
• Vauxhall Frontera - Car dealer won't honour warranty 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
  Hi, I wonder if anyone can give any advice. Bought a used Vauxhall Frontera on the 30th November.  Traded in our old vehicle and paid a further £650 cash.  The car was advertised and sold with a three month warranty. Fast forward to the first week in January and the car starts misfiring.  Took it to a local garage who tells us that the head gasket/valves need work and the car is firing on only two of the four cylinders.

  My budget needs to be under 10K, and I don't want something that is too old/has too many miles on the clock already. Maybe this is an impossible dream(!) I really don't know much about cars so I'd welcome any advice! Thanks in advance.
