  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - 09 1.6 Satnav 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
How do I update the satnav data (using an SD card), - and is up-to-date data expensive?? By the way, the user manual supplied does not cover the communications pack. Luckily, most of its functions are intuitive.
  • Its an ill wind..that blew me some good... 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Returning from holiday I followed up a 6 year old 330Ci which had been marooned at the bottom of an ice covered drive for several weeks. A fair price was offered, and duly accepted. Its a fair bit more refined than my previous Elise, and I shall be sad to say good bye to my current car which was bought to tide me over for 3 months some 27 months ago!
  • Are there any modern diesels without a DMF? 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Cost of maintenance is also an issue) Thanks everyone! *** PS. Apologies if this specific question has been covered before - I searched but couldn't find anything!
  • Insurance 2 minutes black hole 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hello all, long time no speak :o) I'm not sure if this has come up before, but I have renewed my car insurance that expires at 23.59 tomorrow...yet the next policy doesn't start until 00.01 on Sunday. Presumably the only way to cover those 2 uninsured minutes would be to start the next policy a day early?
  • SAAB 9-5 (1997 - 2009) - 97 2.0 engine oil leak 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
To try to rectify this he has changed the oil to 15/40, reseated the copper sump washer and put in some additive to seal any internal leaks. Engine was idled for 15 minutes no problems. When the car was driven oil started to cover the engine and exhaust pipe somewhere near the starter. Bear in mind this is by all word of mouth as he is away at the moment. A garage suggested that it could be excessive crankcase pressure but they hadn't got time to look at it.

  • 'Bike' magazine first issue 10 May 2008 (Forum)
In fact, it's a fascinating window on an industry about to commit suicide, floundering round for ideas too late (although there is a lovely Carl Vetter design based on the Rocket-3 that might have helped, if BSA hadn't ignored it). Good nostalgia trip, anyway, and a reminder about inflation - the cover price was 30p!
  • Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 53 1.6 SRS Fault 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 53 reg Civic 1.6SE 3 door (October 03 registered), which has covered approximately 47k miles. It has always been serviced at a main dealer. Recently the SRS light on the dash came on. I tried resetting it through disconnecting the battery for a few hours, as I read on one website, but the light stayed on.
  • KIA Magentis (2006 - 2009) - 06 2.0 Chain cam? 11 Apr 2008 (Forum)
This car isn't listed in the Chain -cam FAQ, I assume the above means it is? Does the "serpentine" belt need to be changed at a prescribed interval? Thanks.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Renault UK - full marks! 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Of course, you could argue that it shouldn't have failed in the first place, but the other side of the coin is that they weren't obliged to do anything at all. Covering the full cost is more than I expected. Cheers DP
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Buying a 04 diesel auto. 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Some say its good for 200 to 300 thousand miles if serviced correctly, i myself only cover 6500 miles per year. I previously owned a 2.0 petrol auto on a 02 plate, i found that ok. So the question is, it it a good buy or not, or just but it and hope for the best. Any feedback would be great, thanks.
  • SEAT Leon II (2005 - ) - 1.6 Stylance opinions please 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Living in the Rep of Ireland where anything over a 1.6 makes zero sense due to tax and insurance reasons I'm considering a 2006 one of these as a replacement for my 04 Focus 1.4 (great car, gutless engine). Good upgrade or not? I have found a clean low mileage one with the Sport Pack with FSH. Feel free to make any other suggestions. Priorities are Economy, Handling, Reliability and Comfort but not necessarily in that order and i cover about 15-16k a year.
  • removing smell of tobacco smoke 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I know this has been covered before and have spent half hour searching and keep coming up with same answer "ciggy burns cost £50 time" -page's of same answer. When I got my car last December the dealer "bless his heart" made a good job of masking this evil smell from a heavy smoker - after a month, whatever he put in wore off and since then I have wiped all interior trim with cleaners -wipes etc and sprayed all fabric with "Febrese" -replaced A/C filter's and sprayed them with Febrese works for a bit then sun comes out and smell returns.
  • Driving should have smiles-per-hour! 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Throw in the fellow motorists offering a friendly wave, or craning their necks to get a closer look at the '928, and it made a great motoring day. Modern classic cars, out and about, bringing recent motoring history back to life. Forget about driving quickly. Its not miles-per hour that counts these days, its smiles-per-hour! -- Colin-E
  • Loss of power steering Octavia 1.9 TDi 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Car is a 52 plate 1.9TDi 110bhp Octavia (not the PD engine). 85000 miles. Cambelt replaced @ 80,000 miles service. Was driving to work this morning when, having braked reasonably sharply, I discovered upon moving off again that I had lost power steering and the battery light on the dashboard was illuminated.

  • Military Road 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
This runs parallel to the A69 and is mostly dead straight with some "big dipper" style dips and some fun bends which are mainly covered in mud at this time of the year to add to the excitement. Very little traffic, no speed cameras and the traffic police are much more interested in the the A69 (in fact my bro, who is in the know, tells me they now only have 2 "jam sandwiches" and their unmarked car has been taken off them).
  • Timing belt guarantees 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hello I have an Audi 80 2.0E, registered in 1993. It was fitted with a new timing belt at 113,283 miles in June 2003. The car has been used fairly intermittently for the last couple of years. My uncle borrowed it this summer, and the timing belt failed at 135,701 miles. The belt only covered 22,000 miles but the time period was just over three years.
