  Top of the pile was the old-shape, Swindon-built Honda Civic with just six failures for every 100 vehicles. Two more Japanese models – the ever-present Mazda MX-5 (7 percent) and Nissan Micra (8 percent) were just behind. "These are real cars, real claims and genuine bills. They are the statistics that really count when you weigh up what used car to buy," explained Duncan McClure Fisher of Warranty Direct.

  Probably the best private buy at Blackbushe today was this nine-year-old Nissan QX auto with 64k on the clock and no obvious reasons to doubt it. Bidding started at £500, it sold for £1,000, and should give someone many more years of reliable running. Retail sales generally are flat as a punctured tyre.

  Oddballs Day at Auction 21 May 2003 (News)
  It was a quiet day at Blackbushe today and hard to pick out any trends. But there were a few unusual cars and a few surprises. The 85,000 mile 92J Nissan 100NX Targa in the photo was tidy enough. Not my speed, but there used to be quite a following for them, and this went to someone for just £575. An attractive Mauritius blue 102k mile 95M Micra Mauritius sold for £700 and a much plainer 70k mile 94L 1.0L CVT in fridge white for £1,000.

  With increasingly more technology now being developed and fitted to new cars, Thatcham is calling out manufacturers such as Tesla and Nissan who are using, what it describes as, misleading names such as Autopilot and ProPilot. The call comes with autonomous technology under the spotlight following several big headline stories, such as the recent case in the US where a drunk driver behind the wheel of a Tesla tried to claim innocence because his car was 'driving itself '.

  Dyson-backed battery could revolutionise electric cars 16 Mar 2015 (News)
  A company called Satki3, an offshoot from the University of Michigan, has invented a solid-state battery that’s around twice as power dense as the lithium ion type battery commonly found in electric cars and smartphones. So, in a Nissan Leaf for example, the theoretical range would leap to 250 miles if its lithium ion battery pack were replaced by a Satki3 solid-state battery pack of the same size. And as the technology improves, pure electric cars with a 600-mile range are feasible, which would virtually eradicate the ‘range anxiety’ that’s postured as the prevalent reason for the limited take-up of all-electric cars today.

  .” The investment is part of a campaign called Go Ultra Low, which is being backed by low emission vehicle manufacturers including BMW, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall. London already has plenty of electric charging points for EVs and plug-in hybrids, so the focus of the £9m boost will be on areas outside of London. One of the most important aims of the investment is the installation of 140 new fast charging stations, which can top up an electric car’s battery in 30 minutes.
