  • Ford Warranty (II) 11 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Recently picked up an eight month old Mondeo at an auction. It was an ex Hertz car and "sold as seen". Very pleased with it. However, on reading the service history I notice the car had been serviced after 7 months with 14,300 miles on the clock.
  • Depreciation cost 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My new Audi will be ready on 1st September when I trade in my 3 year old one. Ignoring costs of fuel, insurance, servicing, road fund licence (all more or less common to any car) and limiting my calculation only to depreciation and loss of interest on the £20k+ originally tied up, my car has cost me £269 per month.
  • Only in America.... 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Telegraph today - In a live car chase broadcast on TV in Los Angeles police surrounded the car and unleashed a hail of bullets killing the 23 year old robbery suspect ( outside a school). The TV stations apparently regularly broadcast chases because it pushes up ratings.
  • wax free shampoo? 28 Nov 2003 (Forum)
After having big problems with smears on my windscreen (only removed after trying numerous combinations of treatments) I found the culprit to be the car shampoo even though I was very careful to avoid the windscreen. As I polish the car regularly I do not need these wax treatments - just a plain old wax free shampoo. Any ideas? Thanks. Steve
  • Porsche Boxster Insurance? 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Anyone care to have a stab at a rough minimum price it would cost for a 47 year old guy, living just outside Bolton, solicitor by trade, to insure a 52 reg Porsche Boxter. No idea of the model, so lets say the most basic. Is a Group 20 car. Am asking on behalf of his ex who is seeking maintenance, and wants a rough calculation of what it is costing to run his car, as the CSA dont take that into account.

  • Wing Mirrors 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
A few weeks ago there was a thread about Real Wing Mirors. Well I have just come out of the Toyota Car Show rooms in Tokyo Bay Centre and the was a Toyota Century V12 limo and yes Real Wing Mirrors. Mind you many of the Taxi@s in Tokyo have these old things stuck on the wing. I will try and direct you guys to a site with pics of the new car then I come home .
  • Piston Slap 26 May 2003 (Forum)
I own a '99 VW Golf 1.4 which has always had a pronounced ticking from the engine, initial thoughts are possible camshaft wear although the car has only done 53k but further investigation has led me to believe that it is piston slap. After contacting VW UK they do not want to know as the car is now over 3 years old! Could you tell me if this is a known problem and is there anything I can do about it?

  • Dental work 19 Aug 2002 (Forum)
It's annoying - especially if it's your own money - but you can't stop it, short of "guarding" your car all the time. By the time the car is three years old it will look like all the others. Alternatively, you could do what we do - always try to take the Citroen C15 white van to the supermarket. Then watch the beemer and merc drivers scatter!
  • Alloy Wheels 29 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Walking to my car this evening I saw three cars in the space of about 50 yards wearing what I must describe as hideous alloy wheels. They weren't bangers either - a BMW, a VW, and a Peugeot all less than 3 years old.

  • Used Saab 9-3 25 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Considering buying a used 9-3 - 2 yrs old 25,000 miles What should I watch out for? Is this a good vehicle - I'm looking for something solid, comfortable and safe - good on the motorway and ok to drive in town. I've looked at the car-by-car breakdown - just wondering if anybody has good/bad experiences of these.

  • Volvo V90 - Volvo V90 / V60 Question mark on Residual values 30 May 2019 (Forum)
Never owned a Volvo before so I visited the nearest dealer and drove a V60 Momentum Pro. Nice car and I really liked it. The sales guy mentioned the Road Fund Licence changes and that as this car had a list price of £44k when new, it would attract a higher rate of RFL (about £465 per year) - the screen price was £29,000 and the car was 7 months old.
