basic car stereo questions 9 Aug 2003 (Forum)
help please I have a four channel head unit, 4 three way speakers (one in each corner) and 2 tweeters (L and R at front). The speakers are already fitted in the car and the head unit is currently in my old car (which only had 4 speakers). How do I connect this into my new car? I have been advised to connect the two front channels to a tweeter and a 3 way unit each in parallel but I have also read that this could lead to blown final stage transistors. -
2010 Golf 6 spd dsg - Used car previous fault 18 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Unfortunately the issue has only worsened, and he decided, rightly in my view, that he was rejecting the car under the consumer rights act 2015 as it was less than 30 days old, and informed the dealer of this via email and phone-call. I am driving the car back to the dealer in London on Saturday morning - exactly 7 days since the purchase. -
Nissan - Tyre wear not proportional to age 9 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Think I've been a bit stupid and trusting of a franchised Dealer. I have just purchased a 6 month old Nissan from My local dealership. The car ( so I've been told ) has been A demonstrator and used by one of the garage staff. It has covered 5200 miles. The car has a number of options that made it An attractive buy - sunroof, 18 inch wheels and special paint. -
Just when you think you have found a car.... 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It does have 12 months MOT looking closely at the pics on ebay I spotted quite a lot of rust on the C pillar above the sills. Had a look at some more cars today and it really does seem that if insurance is an issue £2k is no longer enough money to buy a decent car. The best one garage could come it with is an S reg Fiesta for a whooping £1500! I am now angery for selling my old car so cheaply, I know it needed a huge amount of work doing to it but I never imagined finding a car would be so hard. -
Scrape in Car park - hit and run ? 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Went to the local Audi showroom for a simple MOT and unfortunately as I was backing out , heard the L front bumper scrape the 6 month old A5's L back door. Stopped car , went inside , spoke to the salesman, who mentioned that this car was unfortunately a customers car and that he would come out and take some photos of both cars , which both of us did, also that he would contact the owner of the car and that he would get the other person to contact me with his insurance details. -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - Rover no more 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Having parked the car on friday for a morning in the office I returned to it to find a police car and three tow trucks some nice person who the police have yet to apprehend although they know who he is decided to use his brothers car and ran into three parked cars, all three plus the car he was driving are now scrap so I have now to go through all the insurance and legal stuff.I have put the car on SORN now got to spend a day going to local tax office to get the personnel plate put on redemption.I can't keep a car when I want I had really fallen in love with it having done the brakes ,cam belt and head gasget with the intention of keeping it.So I spent Saturday trying to find a 75 tourer or ZTT that was in the same condition and same low miles mission impossible people were wanting 5k for rough high milers and as there are none coming in from lease I gave up and bought a two year old Signum 2.2 elegance from my usual source plus I have got a dose of flu its not been my weekend.I got a Chevrolet lancetta as a hire car it is horrible I am glad it goes back today. -
Rover 214 Advice Please! 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I've had various views on them, I know the head-gasket is a common issue with them, but is that the only thing that makes them worse? I have also taken into account thats its an old persons car... But then isn't every car (ok, maybe not the american muscles... But they aint exactly common cars over in the UK). As I am a young driver, this is to be my first car. As I look at it, I like the look of the Rover 214, I think it looks nice and am definately not into doing a car up to make it look better, if I wanted a fast car that sticks out like a sore thumb, I'd get a mustang. -
buying advice - all comments welcome 5 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I would be very grateful for some advice on the following potential purchase I’m considering: trade in car: '97 p-reg fiesta 5dr 1.25 ghia in dark green and 77k miles with a full service history and with good body work. purchase car: mondeo st 24 5dr with 46k miles in metallic black, good body work, apparently good drivetrain, and certainly drives well compared to all the others I’ve tested.... but the problem is that it's a repossessed ford credit car, and as such the service history is slightly patchy - the car is 5 years old, and in the slightly dubious service book only 3 services are detailed. -
New keeper error? 8 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hey! Just looking for some advice. In 2018 I part ex’d my car for a new vehicle. I gave the guy the log book to my old car and then he gave me the green slip with new details. He said I shouldn’t need to do anything else. I was driving the vehicle home so I taxed it there and then using the green slip. -
BMW 125i convertible - Seduced by a straight-six 6 Jul 2017 (Forum)
So with more work coming in than I thought in semi-retirement (very pleasant - writing and examining, mostly done at home), there's money sitting in my savings account earning less than 1%. Just too tempting....still missing my old Z3 a little....so look at Cars for Sale on this site. Given how impressive SWMBO's Audi A1 is, an A3 convertible? The 1.4 TSIs are too recent and too expensive. BMW? A 1-series is big enough, and there are some with the legendary straight-six. -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 99 1.4 Problem ticking over 29 Oct 2016 (Forum)
He told me he would be able to fix it so he, again, replaced the idle control valve. It then wouldn't tick over at all! He replaced the old valve but the car would randomly rev up and wouldn't pass emitions test. I therefore had to declare it SORN as I couldn't tax it! He removed the ECU and sent it to Renault who reported no fault, informing him it would be the wiring. -
Estate help 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello everyone, I'm a complete newbie here and hope my query is appropriate. I'm looking to change my old Renault Clio for a bigger car. I've got up to £9,500 tops to play with and want something diesel and an estate. Diesel for the obvious consumption concerns and estate because I have a dog, could be getting another in the not too distant future. -
Please help recommend a family car 20 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Hi there, I will soon have three children so it's time to upgrade the old polo! I have been looking at some different models but would appreciate any advice regarding reliability or things to watch out for. My main requirements are that it is reliable, can handle three car seats comfortably, and has ample storage space for carting buggies etc. -
Toyota Yaris mark 3 - advice re bigger car/aging Toyota Yaris 13 Dec 2023 (Forum)
She is very reliable,in the two years that I have had her I have replaced all the tyres as they were quite worn when I got her,the original battery went and her brakes need some work soon. I love her! however she is almost 12 years old and I have a toddler now,and a medium sized dog. I am worried that she is getting older, everything inside the car is very cramped even without a dog or baby a big load of shopping and my work stuff fills the car. -
Adjusting steering for the camber of the road 27 Jul 2022 (Forum)
On the couple of cars that I own/lease (a 13 year old Vauxhall Astra with 75,000 miles and a new Hyundai Tucson with 2,000 miles) I've noticed that when I'm driving along a straight road, I have to hold the steering wheel perhaps a couple of degrees to the right to keep the car straight. -
Aygo review 23 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Our sons 19 year old Corolla went into Toyota for recall work this week. I was loaned a brand new Toyota Aygo for the day, which was ideal, as have been pondering a small city car as a runabout. As a lover of small cars generally, I was mightily impressed with just how good modern ones are. -

Car derived vans 28 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I’ve a hankering for one now, I like the rarity of a retro Van. Any fond memories of their old works vans? I liked the Mk IV Escort Vans also and the Maestro was a surprisingly good little Van too. -
Vauxhall Vectra - 1.8 petrol engine problems 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Hi, My 10yr old Vectra has been showing a warning light on the dashboard, It is the engine electronic one. The handbook says that turning the engine on and off can sometimes fix it. It didn't with me. I took it to the very good family garage that does our car work and they found a fault code POO14 relating to the exhaust cam. -
Any - The death of recycled parts? 24 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Firstly as you know all new parts have to be coupled to the cars main computer. Fair enough but he claims that new replacement parts have a one time code to couple up . If the car is scrapped and the parts removed the unit has a one time access to couple with the car's ECU and hence will fail to work a second time Another example he claims is the Main Dealers difficulty in diagnosing intermittent faults.
