  • Ford Fiesta 1.6 tdci econetic - Misfire -possible over cooling ? 31 May 2015 (Forum)
The heater blow hot after about 4 miles which I think is par for the course for a diesel so seems to warm up ok but the engine just doesn't get as hot as I would have thought. Oh one final thing when the car is warming up and say after a few mins driving and I stop at the lights the revs drop slightly and immediately recover. The car has a full service history, no fault codes, good mpg, drives great except for the annoying problem. The garage said the computer says no faults found and all normal.
  • Cars should be fun 3 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I'm a long term reader of this site and I am afraid this is another what should I buy threads.   I used to enjoy driving.  I had a Smart Roadster and at the weekend, I would enjoy taking it out for a spin.  There was never any destination in mind.   I now find myself living in the city centre and I have a Japanese supermini which I hardly drive.
  • Corsa C (52 reg) starting problems?? 29 May 2014 (Forum)
Hiya, i don't know whether anyone can help, but i have a corsa C 1.2 club (52 reg) with only 31000 miles, and it has a very intermittent starting problem....... basically you press the key fob to open the car and the dashboard lights should come on, if they do come on then the car will start fine, however more often than not, the lights do not illuminate and when that happens the car will not start it sort of starts and then immediately stalls (like the immobiliser is kicking in) however i don't believe it is the immobiliser because i have tried starting the car with the immobiliser in the key fob taken out and it does a similar sort of thing, (i.e starts and then stalls) but the immmobiliser light on dashboard will then come on. The worst thing is, occasionally if the car does start, then whilst driving along the car dashboard will sometimes fail and then the speedo, rev counter and fuel guage will not work, also indicators etc fail, although the car will still drive, it will usually come back into life after 10 minutes of driving??
  • Bit of a dilemma - living abroad & no MOT/tax 3 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I'm hoping it will sort itself out tomorrow, if the manufacturer's paperwork arrives in the post, but if not, I may be driving without tax or MOT. The insurance is valid until September so at least that isn't a problem - except that the car will technically not be UK road legal. I'm thinking that this is all going so wrong!
  • Ford Focus 2006/7 1.8 Flexifuel Estate - central locking, locking and unlocking by itself 29 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I had to turn off interior light to drive home. When I got home, I could not lock the car (using the remote locking) because the car thought the door was open. I left it in the garage and then checked it a few hours later, and door could now lock.
  • Buying my Second(ish) Car - Medium Hatchback 10 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Sadly it is because I live a long way away from my family and the prices of train tickets combined with the fact that now I have just become too old for a young person's railcard, means that DRIVING is the cheaper option.   I have also just started a new, far more serious job than I had before, which will potentially involve a lot of driving, so comfort while driving is hugely important, and image is part of the consideration here, so an old Fiesta won't do the job anymore.
  • All these commuter questions..... 5 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I am currently overseas for a few days and driving a rented Peugeot 107.  With the exception of a few very minor niggles it is all the car a person needs.  It is reasonably comfortable, more than able to hold its own at 70+ mph and doing at least 50+ mpg at the same time.

Or carry on driving it until it ''officially'' goes (White smoke plumes out when driving?) and then call them out? Also whats the rough cost of a Sniff test please?
  • Ford Focus - Temperature Guage issues - ford focus 26 May 2012 (Forum)
Is this still likely to be air if it only happens in 5th gear or does this sound electrical? Easy for them to say its ok to carry on driving but when the needle is sitting on red and doesn't budge doesn't come natural to carry on dirivng. Any help appreciated!
  • Medium Automatic Required in place of Hybrid. 19 May 2012 (Forum)
Good morning My parents have owned the Civic Hybrid (58) since 2009 and my father yesterday contacted me saying that he is thinking of part exchanging it for a used 2010 model with a cost to change of 9k which I thought was quite a lot and uneccessary. They love the car by virtue of the fact the road tax is cheap but to be fair they can't drive in the manner that favours hybrid driving. I secretly set the av MPG to zero when i visit them before toggling the display so it reads total mileage. When I visit  a month later I check what mpg they have been getting.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - Misfire 24 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Present only when accelerating even when parked up. Don't think this sound was there before. Second thing is that when I'm on the motorway and driving at high revs, for a prolonged period, hour or so, it can misfire/judder when driving. Around this time I notice the car struggle a little/it becomes more difficult to accelerate. Feels like I'm not getting as much power as before.
  • Choices:- Focus 11 tdci zetec or C4 11 hdi VTR+ 4 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have also had poor experiences of ford in the past but the new focus looks well put together, very stylish, decently equiped and drives very very well. I have discounted the Honda civic as they don't do a diesel model now, the Toyota auris is also out of the picture due to being too boring and staid and very very dull to drive. The Peugeot 308 is again discounted due to poor access to the boot and a very high loading lip.
  • Audi A3 - 05 Audi A3 2.0 TDI SE - Turbo & Emissions Control 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I got my second hand Audi the other week. When I was driving it home on the motorway I noticed it lost power (no turbo), was still able to drive it but no thurst even at high revs.  I thought this maybe becuase the fuel was very low therefore I stopped at the fuel station and topped up and it has been fine since this 2 weeks ago.
  • what a waste of tax payers money on cyclist riding - Traffic cops Thuirsday 9pm 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Do they never realise the reason we get so narked these days is there is no balance of justice. I take my hat of to the cyclist that at least he wasn't driving a car whilst under the influenze or driving a car uninsured but it appears it may of been cheaper to do so. may be its time to put my bike back in the shed!! because untill they make the roads safer to ride on i continue to cycle on the pavement
  • Vauxhall Astra H Estate, - Which car?(6 mth baby)safe,automatic,low insurance 17 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hi, For the last 2 months we have been struggling to decide on a car.   We have a 6 month baby and except for a monthly 200K drive on motorway most of our drive will be within London.  No preference for any specific car.   Main consideration in selection are: a) Safety (most important - euro ncap 5) b) Low insurance  (4-6 group / 1.4-1.6 engine) since I have held  a license for only a few months c) Automatic (mainly for city driving) d) Approx 3 yr old / 30K /  from a network dealer for 5K but can go up to 7K  Based on these we short-listed Ford-Fusion but then realized that boot space was too small to hold pram.
  • Driveway obstruction-rules please. 22 Jun 2010 (Forum)
This probably the daftest question yet but here goes – Was driving with my motor-mouth older sister (how she hates it when I say that) last week when I had to find an on-road parking space near to a shop where I had to collect a heavy pre- purchased item. No spaces where immediately available outside the shopping parade.
  • Civic? - Recommend a car please. 4 Apr 2010 (Forum)
The time given to test drive a new (half hour at best) car is not at all enough for me to make up my mind. i’ve tried new Honda Jazz and civic and liked the latter somewhat.
  • People pulling out and making you slow down 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Are they so selfish that they want to get in front of me just on the off chance that I'm cruising at 45 and going to prevent them from going at 50 if I'm in front of them? Am I right in thinking this is bad driving on their part or am I just being grumpy?
  • Future advances in car technology 9 May 2009 (Forum)
Only if you have valid insurance and paid the VED will the chip be activated and make the car work in conjunction with it also scanning your drivers licence/national i.d card. Cars will only work by fingerprint recognition of the person entitled to drive so can never be stolen or driven illegally. If your insurance expires or you cancel the policy, the insurance co will send a radio signal to the car usng existing mobile phone technology. The next time you go to drive your uninsured car, it simply won't start.
