  • intersections to avoid 30 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The other junction that I hate is the M25/M26/A21 - The final juction I also avoid is the M1/M25 , not because of many problems, it's just I find the A41, Watford area ALWAYS has some of the cheapest fuel around, a good toilet and food stop and very easy access back onto the M1 where do other BR'S try and avoid
  • Generic Diesel Injection Fundamentals 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi I was wondering if anyone could describe the injection timing variations of a diesel engine, or post a good link (i've looked but not found much) I'm interested in roughly what angle BTDC the average engine /(injection pump) will inject the bulk of fuel and how this will change with speed and load. Also is the injection advanced or retarded when the engine is cold? I assume injection will advance with increasing speed but I can't find how much by.
  • May 2005 Mondeo.. Sorted ??? 9 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I also had one for a few weeks in work. Then I started reading all of these tales of woe about the fuel pumps etc, though they seem to be older models. So far my Mondeo has been really good, there is no flat spot between 1800-200 revs, and I was getting 48mpg on my 15m each way dual carriageway journey.
  • Anybody with a 1.5 Dci (106) Scenic? 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have just been looking at the stats on the 1.5 Dci (106) Scenic/Grand Scenic and it could fit the bill. Most of my driving is motorway driving (40,000 miles pa) at a steady 70-75MPH. The fuel economy that the Scenic offers ON PAPER seem terrific, what are they actually like on the motorway? What consumpton do you guys actually get? Also, is the 1.5 accpetable on the motorway? I am coming from a BMW 320d so I do expect a drop in performance.

  • This could have interesting consequences 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
http://snipurl.com/11yu1 This ruling is expected to allow British shoppers to buy goods from the EU, including booze & cigarettes and pay the duty in the originating country and have the items shipped to your door. Question is - can we start doing the same with fuel? It would be one in the eye of GB to have his huge tax raking ability removed by EU harmonisation :-) This could explain their sudden interest in pay as you drive as they realise people here are sick of paying huge amounts for a commodity which others in the EU pay a lot less for.
  • peugeot 205 will it start??? 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The problem occurs when you turn the engine off and then come back to the car after a short while. The engine turns over ok but wont start. Have changed the distributor and cap. No change. Fuel is getting to the carb. On taking off the lead to the coil and placing a screwdriver over the coil and then turn the engine there is no spark, yet when I go back to the car later and turn the key she fires up straight away.

  • State of California sues car firms ! 21 Sep 2006 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5365728.stm As long as the manufacturers are taking steps to improve consumption and emmisions with each respective new model then surely it is the user of the vehicle that should pay the price via fuel tax etc. How can the manufacturer control what someone does with a 10 year old worn out wrongly maintained vehicle, how can they determine whether every journey the vehicle undertakes is necessary, is done so via the shortest route, that the vehicle is driven correctly etc etc etc etc.

  • VW Sharan Noise 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have noticed a few times that when I stop and get the kids out you can hear a noise from the lower rear of the car. It sounds like the fuel pump when you first turn on the ignition, but this is whn you have stipped. It lasts for about 2 - 3 mins and then just stops. No adverse effects so I am not worried, just wondered if anybody knew what it was.
  • A 1.5 Turbo Disel Sports Car? Yup... 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Anyway I think this is quite a cool achievement, it's called the Eco-Racer and manages to be very fast and sporty while still being very fuel efficient. I think electric cars would sell much better if they went more down this track than some of the others I've seen (I'm thinking particularly of the Smartcar here). http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread/t-105940.html Check it out, it's pretty cool even if it is only a concept car.
  • Mk II Golf 1.8 Carburettor 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Tommorow I'm having a look at a mate's Mk II Golf 1.8 which has cutting out problems (like a short while after starting, everytime - undriveable) that he believes is due to fuelling / carburettor issues. It's quite tweaked - in fact it's very quick - but I'm not sure what fuels it and he doesn't really know much. Assuming it's original, is it a downdraught Pierburg carb? I know these get moaned about a lot and people say bin it and buy a Weber - but that isn't an option on a rushed Friday afternoon when my mission is simply to get it running.

  • A coincidence? Diesel leak. 4 May 2005 (Forum)
A lot went on my tarmac drive which has a hole in it now. I hold the garage liable, they disagree. Would I win in the small claims court? How often do fuel hoses work loose? (never in my experience - but what's yours?) After the nice AA man clicked it back properly it hasn't happened again. All thoughts welcome.
  • radio reception and 530d 13 Apr 2005 (Forum)
have any backroomers found the reception of their radios on their bMW 5 series a bit wanting, the reception is ok with the engine off,but once starting the engine,it goes crackly.this is especially true for MW stations. It gets worse on putting the rear demister on when even the local FM radio station gets affected.I am not sure if it has got to with the reception generally in the area as the reception on my audi 80 which is 12 yrs old in the same areas is good.any thoughts whether there is problem with the electrics/fuel management or just defective aerial/radio on my recently acquired 530d which is 2002/51 year model. BTW where is the aerial on the 5 series?
