Classics spotted in the classifieds 20 Oct 2011 (News)
Based on the first generation Micra it’s a reasonably hardy little car which is much easier to maintain than a genuine 60s machine but has all the good looks. British buyers cottoned on and now there are loads of imported Figaros on UK roads, but few as pristine as this example, which has covered just 7000 miles. MGB Roadster - £9,995 You could be forgiven for confusing the MGB with the Figaro at a glance, but the MG is the real deal. -

The Good Garage Guide: Passing your MoT 9 May 2011 (News)
The same goes for windscreen wipers - they must clear the screen. If they don’t then change them, it’s an easy, cheap job. It’s also important to ensure your screenwash is topped up. Next, check the tread on your tyres. A simple way to test if the tread is within the legal limits is to take a 20p piece and place it into one of the tread grooves. -

Top Cars Tumble at Auction Today 24 Oct 2005 (News)
Potent Porsches did not fare much better today. A 27k mile 2001/51 996 3.6 Turbo failed to sell at £48,000, an 11k mile independently imported 03 reg 996 3.6 GT3 did not get bid past £46,000 and an imported 32k mile 02 reg 996 C4 cabrio with hardtop stuck at £37,000, At times the place looked like a war-zone, not from traders committing seppuku, but from the likes of the 2k mile 05 reg Dodge Ram SRT-10 in the photo (the one with the same 500bhp 8.3 litre truck engine as the Viper). -
Surprise Bargains at Top Car Today 14 May 2001 (News)
An 81,000 mile 97R C200 Esprit facelift with the Spanish gearchange sold for £8,500, while a pair of C250TD Estates were not dear at £14,000 for the 76,000 mile 98S Elegance auto and £13,000 for the 50,000 mile 97P Classic manual with a/c. An ultra desirable 6,700 mile 2000X BMW 530D SE Steptronic, privately imported from Germany, stuck at £25,400 against trade guide for an official import of at least £28,500. So even if it came for £500 more it would have been an excellent buy. Competition for Jaguar XJ8s looked a bit reluctant, perhaps due to fears of fuel consumption and future VED hikes. -
Ford Capri V8 Stampede heads to auction 11 Jun 2018 (News)

That's still a steep increase on the car's 2014 sale price of £14,875. The historic price comes just a year after the benchmark was established at the equivalent sale in 2016 with the $21,800,000 1955 Jaguar D-type. The most correct example of what is arguably the most important Aston Martin ever made, DBR1/1 carries a racing history that includes overall victory at the 1959 Nürburgring 1000km as well as being driven by the greatest names in motorsport, including Carroll Shelby, Jack Brabham, Roy Salvadori, and Sir Stirling Moss. -
‘Lost’ Pininfarina-bodied Jaguar XK to be unveiled at Pebble Beach concours 9 Aug 2017 (News)
The car, which has spent the past two years being restored by Classic Motor Cars, was originally delivered to a Max Hoffman – an influential US importer. Such was Hoffman’s influence, he was able to refine and develop several vehicles – perhaps the most famous being his suggestion for a Mercedes-Benz 300 ‘gullwing’. The Pininfarina-bodied XK120 SE was unveiled at the 1955 Geneva motor show. -

BMW E30 M3 makes £25k at auction 23 Sep 2015 (News)
A BMW M3 sold for £25,310 at Barons classic car auction on 15 September. The bright red 1988-registered E30 was imported to the UK from Germany in 1999. Coming with a bulging history folder jam packed with invoices, service booklets and receipts, the M3 had also been treated to a light restoration. But despite the strong money fetched for the BMW, it was an unrestored 1973 Alfa Romeo Montreal V8 Bertone Coupe that topped the sales charts at the Sandown Park sale. -
A Grand Monday: SORN’d Talbot Solara £350 27 Jul 2015 (News)
It was launched with such high hopes. The Talbot Solara was supposed to target the all-important UK company car market. It’s conservative three-box design the perfect weapon to nick sales from Ford and Vauxhall. But it wasn’t to be. Solara barely made a dent in sales figures and proved to be a slow-seller, just like the car it replaced, the Avenger. -
DVLA vehicle inquiry service ‘must improve’ 6 Jul 2015 (News)
‘The Federation continues to be of the view that, now there is no tax disc, it is important that the search works smoothly for every vehicle, from wherever it is accessed,’ a spokesman said. Currently that cannot be guaranteed for all historic vehicles. There are still cases where an enquiry using the obvious ‘make’ results in a ‘no details held’ return – with no explanation. -
Curios: Rover Quintet 18 May 2015 (News)
The Rover Quintet was, of course, a re-badged version of the Honda Quintet five-door hatch, which had been in production in Japan since 1980. The Rover model was a Japanese import but came with a few extra touches, including wood-veneer trim and upgraded moquette upholstery. In every other sense though, this was simply a Honda fitted with Rover badges, with not even a Rover-style front grille to add a hint of Britishness. -
