Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2004 1.8LS - Wheel Bearing Failed? 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Is there a history of this sort of thing on Vectras? Also, bearing in mind the car is only 3 and a half years old with only 37,000 miles on it would I be right in trying to seek a contribution of costs from Vauxhall? It does strike me as being a potentially expensive job. I would appreciate any thoughts - thank you in advance! -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 2002 1.9 Diesel - smoke and clatter 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I've got 2002 1.9D, which is strange because I thought they'd stop making them 18 months earlier. Anyway, this car is the worst conditioned 5 year old car I have ever seen. I have no service history or anything and when I start it in the mornings I get a load of blue smoke accompanied by 5 seconds of clatter. It's calmed down slightly since I have had it, and I am getting the oil and filter changed tommorow. -
Ford Granada/Scorpio (1985 - 1998) - Curious about what I didn't buy 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Condition was OK for a 20 year old car, though I noticed the leather seats hadn't worn well. As reluctant as I am to buy imports, this one had a certain flair about it that really interested me, likely because Merkurs were such a rare bird here. -
Corsa 1.2 thoughts? 10 May 2007 (Forum)
Before I proceed further though, are there any known probs with the 1.2 engine. I think this is the old 8V engine carried over from the Nova era I guess? HJ's cbcb doesn't mention this engine, only the later 1.2 16v. I was hoping that this sort of car might go on for a fair few years.. Thanks as ever people -
Bought far from perfect Elise-the law? 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
A friend of mine has bought a Lotus Elise (about 4 years old) from a sports car specialist, the car came with one of those one page RAC reports (not a full car buying survey) stating no problrems, and all was well for 2 months and 600 miles, then one of the front tyres was wearing unevenly on the outer edge, she took it ot the local Lotus main dealer who checked it over and road tested it and said the handling was very poor, all four shock absoebers needed replacing as well as the goemetry resetting and 2 tyres replacing. -
Vectra service intervals 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
So I book it in. The dealer services the car anyway , cost £140. Says it needed it. Today, a few weeks later , I happen to press the mileage trip button before starting the car .A light comes on on the dash, which I haven't seen before ,which shows service due at 30k miles . -
diminution of value 20 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I have a 7 month old Beetle cab bought brand new, it has developed a number of faults, mainly electrical, which have been rectified under warranty. During one such visit to the local dealer the valet person reversed the car into another car resulting in damage to rear offside. -
Worst Test drive 22 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I was just wondering what people's worst test drive experinces were? I drove a 2 year old Honda CR-V today, with the usual blurb of 1 owner 27k miles, fsh etc etc, and on the surface looked like a very nice car. During the test drive the car accelerated very poorly ("Its a characteristic of the honda VTEC engine sir!" -
LPG/Calor Gas cylinders 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Would be easy to get away with in theory surely? You could just remove the cylinder at MOT time and have the car MOT'd as just running from petrol. Would it be a case of simply remove the LPG tank and have a secure fitting for the cylinder plus a regulator connecting to the old LPG fuel pipe? At 10 odd quid a cylinder it has to be pretty tempting... -
DVLA - 6 weeks to process? 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The post office won't let her renew the tax and the dvla have told her to apply for a new V5 - which will take up to 6 weeks to process. She was advised by the dvla that she has to declare a sorn and take the car off the road. She's getting old now days and would struggle to get by without her car, plus the MOT will be running out soon meaning when she does eventually get the V5 there will be the extra trouble of getting the MOT. -

CORSA 17.D (W REG 2000) GEARBOX FAULT 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know much about MrClutch and what prices are like? On a final point do you think perhaps I should contact Vauxhall as the car is under is only 2 ½ years old and has done under 30,000. As far as im aware the Vauxhall cars only have a one-year warranty and Im not sure if this applies to the gearbox. Any help much appreciated. -
Do you see what I see 1 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The chief culprits are old women (no surprise there) and middle aged business men. One 'gent' even threatened to report me because I took exception to him driving on the pavement, (after getting out of his car to move a cone) and then almost running over a paramedic who was knelt ddown dealing with a casualty. -
Bodywork repair/respray query 17 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Is a thirdparty strip and respray of reasonable quality as good as the full manufacturing treatment as far as anti-corrosion goes? I don't want to spend x pounds getting my car done in a nice metallic pink colour only to find it rusting like an old fiesta 12 months later. Any responses would be lovely, Dan -
Volvo V40 phase 1, 2.0 Xi - Is it about time I parted company with:- 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I've been pondering with this car over the past few weeks. oh sorry. forgot my manners....Good Morning... . My trusty (not rusty) volvo estate 2litre has been in my family for 8 of its 11 years, I've taken the old car from 28,000 miles to this week 100,000 with the original exhaust, alternator always yearly serviced and never spent more than £200 on a service) etc etc. -
Advice Regarding garage issues 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
What the guy said next shocked me. I was told the radiator in my car was not new. It was at least 2 years old - infact, it had a build date of 2005 stamped on it. It was also a genuine BMW part. The guy suggested that, perhaps, it was the radiator in the car from before, or a used one from somewhere. -
BMW 4 Series - Ever wondered how insurance premiums keep rising? 20 Feb 2022 (Forum)
About 4 weeks ago a person I know was sitting in their car waiting for a friend to come out of Tesco. Car pulls into the space next to her and opens her door which smacks into the passenger door of a 6 month old 440i - List is over £50K. Car is booked into the supplying dealer. -
Caring for your car 25 Apr 2012 (Forum)
What can I use on the wheels to stop discolouration over the long term? I always washed the wheels on the old car, but over five years they god quite badly discoloured in the end. 4. What are other people's care schemes for their motors? I always struggle for time to get the cars washed more than once a month, so usually end up going to on of the mechanical car washes or to the local Polish car wash... i'm always a bit paranoid about both though, the mechanical option for being rough with the car and damaging it, and the hand wash because i'm paranoid that their sponges mush be full of little stones scratching my car with the sheer volume of washes the do each day... thoughts on this? -
Automotive: The Right Tool for the Job 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Electric Hand Drill: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age, but it also works great for drilling rollbar mounting holes in the floor of a sports car just above the brake line that goes to the rear axle. Hacksaw: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle.
