  • Motorway miles. 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Are they incinuating less wear and tear? The engine still runs when you drive on a motorway, you still brake. what about in heavy traffic? The clutch gets a hammering here too? And how do you get onto a motorway? I'd say doesn't make any difference at all. I'll always ignore an ad that says *motorway miles* Opinions?
  • driving with no mot or tax 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I know of someone driving with no mot (expired 2+ months ago),also brake fluid requires filling up occassionaly. tax ran out recently. Person says they cannot afford to get things legal and won`t/can`t listen to reason. Is there somewhere to report this, that isn`t going to reveal my id.
  • towboard wiring - Audi A4 1.9 TDI 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve followed the instructions for wiring the 7 pin plug up, and everything seems fine till I connect the tow board and only 1 brake light works on the board. Should I put a bridge across the other connector on the socket? Cheers.......
  • declutching over speed bumps 14 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It got me thinking whether or not this practice is beneficial/detrimental to the car (gearbox etc.) or whether it doesn't really matter either way... I have also noticed that I fully declutch even when I begin to brake.....maybe I am just weird?
  • lost adapter for anti theft wheel bolt 8 May 2004 (Forum)
I have lost the adapter for my anti-theft wheel bolts. I beleive that the garage may have it still as they changed my brake disks and pads and disks 2 days ago. I am going to ring them tomorrow. If they say that they don't have it what options do i have ? (i'm afraid i do not have the code card number either).
  • VW New Beetle knocking rear noise 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
1.6 New Beetle, there is an odd knocking noise from the rear, noticeable during acceleration (engine past about 2,000 rpm), or during braking, or over rough surfaces ? Had a mechanic check the exhust, which was OK - I\'m wondering if the exhaust is out of alignment and knocking on the suspension. Kind of sounds like mice with small hammers !
  • alfa worries 11 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hello I have 5yr old 145 cloverleaf, 48k, and recently when I accelerate and more recently when I brake the handbrake light comes on.....any thoughts what this could be?? The handbrake is definately not engaged. Also, at very low speed if I turn wheel slightly to left and slightly to right (not full lock) I get what a clunky noise - not very technical but can't think how else to describe!
  • MOT self pre check 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
But what kind of reliable ideas concerning the probably outcome of the MOT test can i get without the sophisicated tools that today\'s garages now use, i.e. emissions control, brake alignment, front light alignment? thanks
  • Iveco Daily 35-12 lwb 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Yes, I know it's not a car! It's a motorhome & some of you guys may have tinkered with 'em..... 1997, rear disc brakes, & I am assuming "drum in hat" for the handbrake? What is the correct way to strip it all down? The n/s handbrake does not work, & it's not the cable-for once. OR, dare I ask: is there a truck site to equal this mighty affair?!
  • 406 discs 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My friend owns a pug 406glx 2.0 auto and is getting through a set of front discs every 10,000mls. His wife uses the car most and does short journeys but she is a typical woman driver and never brakes hard ( unless in an emergency ). He is getting a little fed up with having to have the front discs changed so often and would like to know if this is a common problem or has he just got a dodgy car.
  • Schizo Alternator? 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
At 2500 RPM the terminals read about 13.5V The tachometer jumps around a lot while driving. Sometimes when I hit the brakes, the radio goes off, but not always. Anyone have a diagnosis?
  • FAO Owners of the New Mondeo 29 Apr 2002 (Forum)
As I haven't received any correspondence yet I will be calling in to see him on my way home from work tomorrow and I will post another message once I have more info. The problem is related to the rear brakes and requires a valve to be fitted.
  • Lifting the bonnet 13 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have asked for genuine parts and they have always been honest and said they are just 'pattern' parts. The only problem I have had was with some Golf door handles which only last ~6 months, brake components have always been well known brands. Andrew www.hispecgolfs.co.uk

  • Rover 400, appetite for light bulbs 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
A colleague with the same model (S Reg) has changed bulbs about 6 times. I see these cars running around in twilight with very often, one of the brake lights or side lights not working. Is this typical of this car or am I becoming paranoid ?
  • Yesterday's is the price right? 15 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Surely, though it means that the interior will be almost new, bearings and running gear will not be worn, brakes will be okey dokey etc? Or not? What are the main things which might go soon - the whole engine?
  • perpetual motion car. 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
i am working on a car that is driven by perpetual motion, the only problem is that the does a top speed of 37 mph, i cant get the car to go any slower (37 - mph in a 30 zone means alot of speed tickets), i also cant get it to brake (the engine is always doing 37mph), the good thing is that it costs nothing to run the car. the other thing is a car run by air power. what do people think???
