All / any - Looking for a new car - what now for new diesels? 17 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I've never owned a diesel car, but following a change of job I now drivie 400 miles a week, and with and my present car (2004 Nissan Primera) having 180,000 miles on the clock I'm thinking it will soon be time to change car, either new or new to me car, dare I take the risk with a diesel? Or stick to petrol?. Been looking at Peugeot 308, Nissan Pulsar, Kia Ceed, Seat Leon as examples of class / size. Looking for something to stand the test of time, cruise comfortably on motorways yet be comfortable & economical to run. -
Land Rover Range Rover - Honest advice on buying a used Range Rover 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The first is, as the post suggests a 2002 Range Rover Vogue 3.0 td6, 89,000 miles, £10,500 from a independant garage. The next is a Peugeot 407 Coupe 2.7 hdi, 55,000 miles, 2006, £6,500. Both drove absolutely lovely, and I cannot decide which one to go for. I do not need much room and do never tear around like a man man. Annual mileage approx 10k. 25 years of age, male. -
Rover 75 2.0 CDT servicing 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
This is more or less in line with the handbook which, If I read the correctly, specifies oil changes every 30,000 miles and 'inspections' every other 15,000 miles. Does this sound right? My recent experience with 'modern' diesel cars (a company Peugeot 406 etc) was that they needed an oil change about every 12,000 miles. What does an 'inspection' entail? Is it just a case of checking levels and tyre pressures? With older family cars I normally manage the routine oil /filter/ brake pad changes myself but the handbook gives no clue to what is required and, surprisingly, there seems to be no Haynes manual published for this car. -
Diesels of Yesteryear - pre 2000 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I currently own a Peugeot 106 Diesel 1.4. It is an extremely slow car. Why did I buy it? Coz I was trying to find the cheapest car possible to buy and run. Previous to this, I had a Mercedes SEC so I really have gone from one end of motoring to another. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Thoughts etc 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
They clearly face out horizontally, whereas they should be angled up slightly. Its a minor irritation I also noticed on a Peugeot 207 about 18 months ago. Otherwise, I can't really fault the car. It is smooth, quiet, economical, spacious. However as I am getting into middle age (mid forties) I appreciate more and more cars with a raised platform. -
Executor sale - Selling an honest car quickly 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My wife is an executor of her father's estate and it's fallen to me to sell his Peugeot 206. The family don't want to "give it away", neither do they want to hold out for top price. It's been valued for probate at £2,500 so (to prove my skill and worth) I'd like to get around £3k for it. -
Inconsiderate Speed Camera parking 18 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Over the past few days I have seen the most horrific usage of the "scamera vans" First was night time rush, darkness all around and a dark blue peugeot van with no markings sitting in a bus stop. Traffic caught up as buses were unable to get into the small laybay, hence stopping in the road. 2 operators inside with the cameras pointing through the rear windows. -
03 Rover 25 2.0 TD IL ...should I? 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
but apart from clutch problems it has always been mega reliable and I wouldn't mind something similar again - just not a Peugeot because of the weird pedal situation! As for why it has to be a diesel, I just prefer to spend more on the car and less on the fuel... I had a 106 1.1 and put in £20 a week, a Corsa 1.0 and put in the same, a 206 2.0 HDI and put in £25 a month and the same for the 106 1.4D. -
I have not renewed my subscription... 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
If 10% of the stories were about supercars, that would be OK, but its all teh time and I'm bored. What happened to interesting stories about drives through the Sahara in a Peugeot 306, or simply a proper Giant Test between cars we may actually be able to afford or are relevant to driving on Britain's congested roads. Don't get me wrong, I would love a new Lamborghini etc, and one day I may get my wish, but in the meantime, I would actually really like to know if a Mondeo ST220 is actually a better car new, than a BMW 320. -
Japanese weaklings? 27 Nov 2005 (Forum)
After a minor crash which left the bonnet of my Almera deformed and with barely a scratch on the back of the Peugeot 106 which I had bumped against, I was left thinking whether Japanese car panels are in some way weaker than the German/French counterparts. After all the Almera is bigger in size and perhaps more sturdier, but I was proven otherwise! -
High mileage Focus advice wanted? 8 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I'm thinking of buying a 1999/T reg Focus 1.8 Tdi Ghia and it seems a good buy - in good nick, well looked after, full service history, decent price according to parkers and glasses but the mileage is high at around 150k. I'm no stranger to diesels as I've run peugeot diesels for a good few years and if this was a Pug, I'd not bat an eyelid about this sort of mileage as I know they just go on and on, but I know nothing about ford diesels other than the fact that this early model TDi engine was replaced by the TDCi a while back. -
Front Foglights - why? 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The worst culprits are tall 4WD vehicles as their Foglights are just a bit higher than in normal cars. Peugeot 406, Fiat Punto and last shape Fiestas also seem have incredibly bright front fogs too. Cars approaching on inclines and bumpy roads also make this use of front fogs extra annoying. In my opinion, there is no excuse for using them unless visibility is so seriously reduced that they are needed (and even then they don't always help). -
Mondeo 1.8TD smokin' 14 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Recently had a secondhand engine put into 1994 Mondeo diesel after previous engine went kaput on the way to work after only having the car for a couple of months (smoked like Bet Lynch, RAC guy and two garages all said it was byebye engine). Story went incredibly similar to the recent post about the Peugeot 406TD. Car is now starting and running as it was originally, but is idling jumpily when the engine gets warm and I've noticed puffs of bluey white smoke kicking out the back while it's doing this. -
Zfira 2.0D Temp Gauge or Thermostat 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
CASE 2 - - Outside temperature around 9 degrees, steady urban driving conditions, no fan required. a) First temperature gauge movement noticed after 3 miles. b) Normal temperature reading (88 degrees on the gauge) after 6 miles. n.b. On my old fashioned Peugeot 405, the thermostat opening is visibly noticeable on the gauge, but this has never been the case on the Zafira. Comments welcome. -
A car for mum-in-law 26 May 2003 (Forum)
Mum-in-law runs a petrol auto Peugeot 306, the second she's had in the past four years. It leads a life of predominantly short journeys and economy is, frankly, appalling. Her last 306 auto ate its cat because it was spending so much time having a rich mixture fired at it. -
Mystery 309! What is wrong? 24 Jan 2002 (Forum)
re: the Head Gasket questions and answers posed earlier today! just spoke to the mechanic who was looking at the peugeot today. Apparantly he says its a lost cause, doesn' want to get involved becasue the motor is only running on two cylinders, is burning diesel oil (smoky exhaust) and the heater is pushing humid water into the car causing moisture on the windows internally!!! -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 1990 1.9 GTi starting problems 25 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Logically thought this was the cure to all my answers, apparently it is called a tachymetric relay that is involved in the fuel pump, starter motor solenoid feed, injectors, coil the whole nine yards. Replaced it, (peugeot tried to charge £69 VAT) eventually found one for £29 VAT, talking to the supplier i said that this would be the cause of all my problems - great! Now the unit has arrived....plugged it in and it is doing the same flipping thing!!!.... -
Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 01 2.0 Fuel pressure sensor fault 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have a 2001 Peugeot 806 hdi 16 valve engine with a lowly 41k on the clock. Just recently (last few months) the engine management light came on and the car would not rev past 3000rpm. The car then began to cut out (last few weeks) when taking your foot off the throttle whilst driving. -
