Legacy Sport Tourer 2.0/2.5 7 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Had a go in both today and have to admit that the difference in performance wasn't as much as I thought it would be. Wouldn't need to tow or anything. Cheers. -
Wrong fuel! 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My beloved just put some diesel in her Mazda, and while waiting for the tow truck, we got to wondering if topping up the tank with petrol (which would dilute it more than 2:1) would be survivable. One garage man says it would, and the other says definitely not! I think it would be OK, but I'd get into awful trouble if I was wrong... -
Paul Ripley is right 7 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The guy behind was so determined not to let me in that he accelerated and hit the car in front of him. Fortunately (!) this was fitted with a tow bar. What fun. No serious damage to anything, but Paul Ripley always says don't fight someone for a piece of road. -
Corsa 1.2 16v DOHC 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
After 25 50 miles it runs really rough and the engine management light comes on. Attempt to restart produces high revving. Once towed home the car starts and runs perfectly. Vaux tried a new EGR valve, but hasn't worked. Anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem. -
VW Polo - known problem? 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Three year old Polo, 16k miles. Clutch pedal collapsed to the floor with bits of white plastic in the footwell. Had to be towed off Motorway to VW dealer. Arrived in dark so couldn't work out what happened. VW dealer looking at it next week. Last week the stop light switch failed - not happy! -
Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - Land Rover or other 4X4 for a smallholding? 27 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Since part of the land is already wooded, the smaller size of the quad will also be more useable than a tractor. However, I have a few other requirements for vehicles: * something to tow trailers. I will need to carry fence poles, building materials (to renovate the old house), and all sorts of equipment, both on public roads and on my own land muddy. Some of the towing may be of things collected from other bad land, so a 4WD towing vehicle would be v useful * something that can be used as a van. -
05 model - Volvo 50 diesel estate 14 Mar 2015 (Forum)
One day lost power about three times in the day and then at night car wouldn't start, called RAC out again who said they thought there was an air lock in fuel system, they managed to get me started and I drove home approx 20 miles, but had to keep revs high. Next morning car would not start at all. Towed to local garage who spent three weeks looking at it, they thought it was an ecu issue. Car towed to main dealer who after one week also said it was likely to be ecu issue but they couldn't be certain as may need new throttle. -
Vauxhall meriva b (2010 model) - Turbo problems / recall 3 Aug 2013 (Forum)
T/c to my local garage (not dealer) for advice - car was towed to my hometown for investigative work to be completed by my local garage. Local checked out car and discovered that turbo was in numerous parts after shattering? They did some investigation work and it was discovered that Vauxhall had issued a silent recall on a pipe connecting to turbo - this caused my initial problems. -
Nissan Primera P12 2.2 SE TD - Let down by my insurance company!! 18 Apr 2011 (Forum)
My pride and joy Primera P12 estate was hit in the rear whilst parked, the car would not start EMS light on? Car was towed to the specified body shop for repair by the insurance company. Body work repaired the car was taken to a Nissan dealer who stated no faults were shown in the diagnostics and the engine has a serious fault with no compression on cylinders 1 and 3? -
Help needed 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
This isnt the first issue i have had with it and frankly [company name] are useless and downright awkward. For example there are missing parts,no guide books, service books etc.Even the tow bracket was missing which meant a 2 and a half hour wait for RAC and not being able to tow the car without the equipment on their bigger vans. I would appreciate any help or feedback as to what i can do,if anything. -
Skoda Octavia Elegance 2005 , 1.9 TDi 130 bhp - Thinking of buying Skoda 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Am looking at a Skoda Elegance , it is ex police but was used like a company car , not for emergencies, with no changes from the original. Its 130bhp. Would this be a better buy for me then a 2002 with 110 bhp. I tow a caravan now and again. It has no spare wheel, is this usual? -

Kia Sorento 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
We are considering a Kia Sorento diesel as a replacement for our now rather tired Discovery TDI 300. (Yes, we do need a 'real' 4x4 to tow a horsebox and no, we don't live in a city, so no anti-SUV comments, please.) HJ has consistently recommended the Sorento, so I would be very interested to hear any experiences of the vehicle. Good and bad feedback most welcome. -
Chevrolet Blazer, anyone got one? 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Anyone here got a Chevrolet Blazer? I like the look of them and and thinking of buying one to tow our caravan. What I'm really interested in is 1, Fuel consumption 2, Spares costs. 3. Reliability and longetivity Theres a few over here in RHD form and being US made, I'm assuming they go on forever. -
2.3 turbo Torque increase - Volvo 940 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
When I resolve my clutch problems I want to increase the torque on my 2.3 SE Turbo in order to improve it\'s towing ability. Do I have any options other than \'chipping\' it ? Which companies provide the best solutions ? Ta ! -- Bob Life\'s too important to take seriously ! -
Which version MPV 3 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I don't anticipate that we will do more than 10.000 miles per year. Most of our journeys are short. We occassionally tow a small caravan. We will either be looking at a used or a good deal on a new. We would also consider the older style. Thanks for any info. -
Volkswagen Tiguan - Clutch - to replace, or not... 6 Jun 2018 (Forum)
He only does about 5k miles each year in it (generally longer runs so no DPF worries) and about 50% of that is towing a 2 berth caravan. Given that there are no signs of impending clutch failure (no sign of slipping, even when towing), I reckon I'd leave well alone and keep a watching brief/consider chopping it in over the next year. -
Peugeot 3008 - Used car fault after purchase 4 May 2018 (Forum)
I'm certain that if i say to them "The car is less then 6 months old so i want you to fix it for free" then they'll probably tell me to **** off and have it towed back to my house. So what can i / should i do ? -
Nissan X Trail Sport 2.2 2001 - Nissan X Trail front coil spring replacement 8 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Whilst there they said it needed a new near side front coil spring so they replaced it for me. I then got a tow bar fitted at another garage and when I collected the car they told me that the new spring was unsafe to drive with as it was not original and had only 3 coils, where as the original Nissan spring has 5 coils. -
Ford Mondeo Estate 06 2litre petrol - Brake light problem 19 May 2013 (Forum)
I think there is a sensor issue, but I've taken it into Frauds who, typically, found no problem... There is a problem, though. I first noticed it when towing my boat at night. It's not a towing issue, though, and whilst my wife was driving behind my car the other evening, she wondered why I was flashing my brake lights at her as I pulled away from junctions.
