Sometimes I wonder! 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
have just got back from picking the mother outlaw up from Bournemouth Airport (why she did not just use her broomstick as she normally does I don't know), whilst sat there in the car I watched a young lady pull up to the car park barriers, stop, press the button on the machine to issue a ticket, press the button again, and again, then get out of the car to press it, after about 5 attempts she realised that both the entry and exit barriers were raised and no tickets were needed. What got me was how she had actually managed to drive to the airport in the first place as clearly her mind was not on her driving, as it was very, very obvious that the barriers were raised as you pulled up to them, made me also wonder how many near accidents she might have caused on the way!!!!! -
Cheaper Insurance Cover? 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
On the basis that you are 'never to old to learn'...I have been motoring for in excess of 45 years...I have only recently discovered that it is actually cheaper with the majority of car insurers to have an additional driver on the policy e.g. a spouse or other 'mature' relative who has a clean driving record irrespective that they may never actually drive your car. Only found this out yesterday following an on-line quote when I discovered that it was £28 less if my wife was a named driver. When I checked this out with the particular insurers they confirmed stating that if I was the sole driver I would be considered a higher risk re (quote) 'Jack The Lad and a Boy Racer' (Iam 63!) -
Pointless U-turns 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I don't mind people parking on pavements, making mobile calls on the move or driving when as ripped as stoats provided they don't cause damage or injury. I don't think they ought to do these things, I just don't mind as much as some other people seem to when they do. There are two things I particularly dislike though. -
The Holy Grail or muddled thinking? 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In a recent edition of the magazine Advanced Driving, a letter from a Mr Hyett of Kent suggests that the Government should seek to reduce carbon emissions from our motor vehicles as follows; " ... surely the best way would be to fit all road vehicles with governors limiting their maximum speed to 56mph? -
55 Reg Focus Steering Noise 27 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Its especially loud when the car has been stood overnight and I am driving it from cold the next morning. The dealer (indepenent, not Ford) have "lubed all the bushes/joints" etc but basically this has had no effect. I am thinking its the rack and its off to a Ford dealer tomorrow to be looked at under warranty. -
No MOTs in the USA..amazing 21 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It is concerning that over here there is nothing to prevent these kind of cars from being driven. I dont buy the argument that people drive newer/better maintained cars here, or that the concern about getting sued compels people to maintain their cars properly. If you take a drive to the wrong side of town, you would agree that this is definitely not the case. -

Road Wars 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
His partner had a benefits book that wasn't in her name, and the guy had apparently been to pawn his tools to buy more drugs. They let them drive on. Bravo. Second most obvious was when they pulled over an Asian guy in a blingy BMW with front tyres worn down to the cords. He was given a warning and again, allowed to drive off. I thought that you had to be escorted to a garage or something? -
Caravans (again) 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
What concerned me was that I could n't see what the driver had done wrong, the road conditions were good, there was no wind and he was driving at a sensible speed for towing. How safe are these things? Are they subject to MOTs? This was n't an isolated case ........ as we drove back the following weekend, there were several traffic reports of caravans turning turtle, each one causing major delays. _______ IanS -

warning lights: crying wolf? 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My default position is- if there was a problem, the lights would stay on. So, wait until that happens. On the other hand, I don't want the GF at risk. The drive of the car (inc brakes) hasn't changed. All advice welcomed! TIA, Alex. -- Dr Alex Mears MG BGT 1971 If you are in a hole stop digging...unless you are a miner. -
Citroen C4 VTR+ 28 May 2006 (Forum)
Citroen are hard-selling these at the moment, and as a by-product of this sales drive got my hands on one for a couple of hours yesterday evening. In often crawling Friday evening pre-bank holiday London traffic it behaved impeccably and was easy to drive and position. A 1.6 HDI110 example, it went extremely well once on the move with terrific acceleration. -
Cold weather and Audi Multitronic auto 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have an A6 2.5 tdi (155bhp)with a multitronic transmission which is delightful in all respects bar one. In cold weather (usually below 2 centigrade) the vehicle won't drive against even a slight incline until the coolant temp hits 20 centigrade (according to Audi, there is a torque limiter) This renders the car a pain to drive on frosty mornings and has left me stranded in multistorey carparks, on cambers etc until the engine warms up. -

Car Insurance Question 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
As a result neither of us have official no claims (although we did have prior to getting company cars). What proof will most insurance companies want to see of a clean driving slate? We can provide details of our last private cover and should be able to get letters from our companies stating a clean driving history. I appreciate calls to insurance companies will get us an answer, I just wanted to hear from any of you who may have come across this before and are there any particular companies out there who are good at insuring drivers like ourselves? -
Company Car opt-out and the industry 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My question for discussion is as follows, is this harming the sale of high-spec luxury cars and indeed new cars in the UK ? In my own experience, the majority of people that have opted-out drive a far cheaper car and keep it longer than they would if still in the scheme. For example I myself drive a car that is probably £8000 cheaper new (list price) than what I would be able to get as a company car. -
No unsurance, No license = no car 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
comment at the bottom sums the problem up I guess If you can't afford car insurance then you should still be able to drive, because what if you need to pick up the kids, do your shopping etc? Also, if you couldn't pass your test but can't afford to get taxis/buses everywhere you should be allowed as long as you know what you're doing. -
Insurance Query 29 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My daughter has just bought a new car, but not yet disposed of her old car. She wants to let her brother drive the old car for a few months. He is happy to insure it in his name - he is over 25 with a good record and some NCB(he has been driving a company car recently). However the Insurance Company we all use(More Than) say you cannot insure a car - with any company - that you do not own; unless it is husband and wife. -
