The paint work on the console is not fit for purpose and how are manufacturers allowed to produce cars with such shoddy material? -
Volkswagen Polo IV - Independent garage for VW servicing 27 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a reliable honestly priced independent garage for servicing a 9 year old polo. I've been getting oil/filter/brake fluid changes at the main dealership (not had anything else done like belts etc so far). but having read through some posts on the forums it looks like i'm probably overpaying at the main dealership, plus i'll be keeping the car until its no longer roadworthy so not worried about full main dealer service history. -
Ford Fiesta Finesse 2000 (X-reg) - New Key 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Does anybody know if it is possible to purchase a new key and chip from flea-bay, have it cut (I have figured out the T-number) and reprogramme the new chip myself using the old key? I have been to the local Ford dealership and been quoted £140+ and same from the local auto locksmith. As my car is only worth just a bit more than that, I am not so keen on shelling out that sort of cash, if I can do it myself. -
Hyundai i20 - South Korean workmanship?! 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Had a really close look at the other doors and they've all got rust bubbling out from underneath their handles too. I couldn't believe it....underneath the door handles!? The car's not even 3 years old. Before I get onto the garage where it's been regularly serviced had anyone seen rusting there before? Also on reading the Anti Perforation Warranty it's exclusions state "stone chips, seam corrosion or paint failure". -
Focus 1.8Tdci Zetec - Slow starting - glow plugs suspected ? 12 Mar 2013 (Forum)
However, needs to be cranked 2 or 3 times (with starter engaged longer than usual) to start car in this cold weather. Never failed to start yet however. Seems to be firing on 2 only on these first attempts, so I suspect glow plugs. I've changed glows on Astra 1.7Cdti and also my old (non-common rail) diesel Escort, but never on a Focus. -

Toyota Avensis - Toyota Avensis Tourer Comments 9 May 2012 (Forum)
My C5 written of and i cant find a decent one at the price i want and i dont do enough mileage for a Diesel Tourer The new Avensis Petrol Tourer looks a good buy with claimed MPG of 42 on combined and is nice to drive. Can pick up a 2011 with 12K on clock for £12,500. That in my book is a good buy for a car 1 year old. Electric parking brake bothers me as i wont be able to replace pads etc. Anyone know of any major issues ? -
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8 valve - 2002 - Astra Smokey On Idle 7 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8 valve which has recently stated to get very smokey on start up and now when idling or sat in traffic, when at speed it runs fine and there does not seem to be any smoke. It does use a fair bit of oil, but that seems to be a known thing with these cars, I have been reading through other forums and there seems to be conflicting problems mentioned by different people. As its 10 years old I dont want to take it to a garage and get a massive repair bill more than its worth. -
Citroen C5 - Citroen c5 Tourer - 1.6HDI engine - too weedy??? 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Its a nice looker, and seems well put together. The only thing Im unsure about is the engine, as its a big heavy car for a 1.6l. I did give it a brief test drive, and compared to my old mondeo tdci, you do have to work the citroen more. Anyone got any opinions on this combination? I know the 2.0 engine would be more preferable, but its nearly all 1.6's here in Ireland - 2.0 ones are scarce. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Varta battery with Green spot indicator 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
My 4 year old Golf is fitted with a Varta battery that has a small circular window which is usually green when optimally charged etc. This was the case about three weeks ago when I had a clean around the engine bay, which I do at regular intervals. -
Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - 03 1.0 litre. Malfunction indicator light. 19 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The light went off, he told me to use it for a week. The light came on after about 4 days. He orderd a new sensor, but the car would not start with it in. He put the old one back in and it was ok for about 3 days. The light is back on now, he is going to order a new sensor from a different supplyer to see if this works. Has anyone had this problem, or any advice would be welcomed. -

It does seem irrelevant as most lockups are used for storage these days being too narrow for modern cars. -
any - Real MPG on HJ website 5 May 2011 (Forum)
Average on a recent 1400 mile touring trip to france and belgium in an Epica 2.0 turbo diesel with 3 on board plus all our bagage was (I thought) an excellent 42mpg. drove at motorway speeds up to a true 85mph where allowed on motorways, so very pleasantly surprised. here in old blighty can generally get 45mpg by sticking to true 70mph on our motorways, that is close to what chevrolet claim, so not too bad for a large heavy car. Secondary point, the road network i travelled on in northern france and belgium was in far better condition, and i only used the free motorways. -

Any - Autocar - 5,000th Road Test 2 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Various articles include “The history of the road test”, their “50 greatest road tests” and a retest of the first car they tested – an Austin Seven Ruby. I have only thumbed through it so far but it should keep me occupied for many hours. In some ways I prefer picking up one of their annual road test compilations from the 60s/70s and going through them (must be getting old). -
