Renault and the cold 7 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Also does diesel freeze up these days or is that something from the past? In the past on the farm we used to put some petrol in the diesel tanks to stop the fuel waxing but I wouldn't want to do that on a modern hi-tech diesel and it may not be necessary anyway. -
Octavia TDI not starting 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The engine turns but doesn't fire. The glowplug light goes out too. Car was serviced less than a month ago, and the fuel filter replaced. It has done 110,000 miles, so i wouldn't be surprised if something has gone. What could this be? This is the first time it's not started! I wonder if i've flooded it if that's possible on a diesel. -
Mazda 6 diesel cuts out 2 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It can happen at random and there is no warning. The CEL (Check engine light) does not illuminate, and therefore I am thinking it could be a fuel problem, namely dragging some air through the system. Ive had a recall done that consists of a capacitor between the A/C compressor and the ECU because Mazda found the compressor was sending "bad" voltage spikes to the ECU, causing the thing to shut down. -
Peugeot 206 Cutting Out 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The engine just goes completely dead. The dealer has been unable to trace the fault but has replaced the fuel pump, filters, and the entire exhaust system as he said the cat had completely packed up. The car is 5 years old and has done 80k. I'm sorry but I don't have anymore information than that. Does anybody have any idea as to the cause? -
Berlingo Problems.. 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
As the knocking isn't regular it seems that maybe it isn't the failure of a major mechanical part. The recovery driver seemed to think that it was almost certainly a broken fuel injector. Is this likely? If not, what else could it be? -

Toyota Prius - Economic Sense? 19 Jul 2004 (Forum)
However for a car little bigger than a Focus, at £17.5k - £20k it is too expensive to be a serious proposition, even with the artificial incentives from the Government and Ken L in London. Fuel consumption is good in urban motoring, but not outstanding overall. If the Government gave £4-5k back as a grant it would become a reasonable proposition, but I can't see many being sold in the UK at current prices. -
Daewoo Matiz - How Durable? 14 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My son has had a Daewoo Matiz from new in December 2000. It has now done 52000 miles with not a single problem. The only costs have been fuel and 2 tyres although it is now due a service. However he is about to start a new job entailing a round trip of over 100 miles a day. We think that the Matiz, with its tiny engine, will not be able to cope long term with this mileage but he is keen to keep it. -
Mondeo noises 12 May 2004 (Forum)
I don't know whether this is just the exhaust breather system doing what it should do. There is no noticable change in fuel consumption or anything. Any thoughts? Many thanks. Y -
Mondeo TD stutter 29 Apr 2004 (Forum)
It's not noticeable under 'hard' acceleration (I use the term loosely) but when running in third or fourth within the band under gentler acceleration. Only clue I have so far is maybe fuel boost (?) problem but complete a complete no-hoper with technical matters am a bit stuck. I've cleaned the air filter and checked all hoses for cracks, etc. -

Turbo Diesel Leaking Oil ? Pug 306. 22 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Didn\'t appear to lose much on a journey (dipstick still full). Definately not coming from sump gasket or plug, but maybe from front?, behind fuel pump? (difficult to tell). Removed intercooler for better look but unable to see anything yet. Just wondered if this was a common problem and where the source could possibly be. Grateful for any ideas or suggestions. -
Parked car heaters - any news? 1 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I know it's a perennial thread, but I would be interested to learn any latest experience of Backroomers with parked car heaters, whether of the Kenlowe variety (in-line coolant heater powered from the 240V mains), or Webasto (burns the car's own fuel in an auxiliary heater). As I understand it both types heat both the coolant and vehicle interior, but the Webasto unit is stand-alone - doesn't need a mains connection and can be remote controlled or even phone controlled. -

Super - worth hunting out? 14 May 2003 (Forum)
I've noticed a few people on here recommend using Superunleaded both for better performance and for higher fuel economy. However, it seems to be very rare around here - I can't think of any garage I use regularly that sells it. Is it worth keeping an eye out for the odd tank-full, or am I as well off using normal UL and adding Redex or similar now and again? -

Oil Prices 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The oil companies always claim they try to absorb increases in the cost of oil and only increase the price of fuel reluctantly. Given that petrol has gone up markedly recently, surely a fall in the oil price should mean a fairly rapid reduction in petrol costs? -
306 D Turbo 19 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I wait till the glowplug light goes off before cranking - no luck. Could i have a problem with a fuse/relay to do with the glowplugs? A fuel blockage? Air in the system? the injector pump has failed? would really appreciate any advice..
