Another DB5 and Some Interesting Americans in Historics 24th November Auction 11 Oct 2012 (News)
A 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Styled by the great Raymond Loewy, this fibreglass bodied, disc braked sports coupe was offered with the option of a supercharger and thus equipped was timed at 196mph on Bonnevile Salt Flats. The car on offer has a 4-speed manual transmission and in road trim was originally rated as capable of 168mph. -
BCA Offers Auction Buyers Warranted Condition Reports 14 Nov 2011 (News)
Only cars under 8 years and 120 000 miles are eligible and vendors will sign up in advance to have this check on their vehicles. The check includes an onsite drive to test brakes (to VOSA standards), warning lights, tyre depths, engine noise, limited gearbox check, suspension and fluid levels. The report will appear in pre-sale cataloguing on the BCA website and a printed copy will be available with the vehicle when it is sold. -

Several manufacturers have complained that the figures are misleading, especially those that supply a large number of cars to fleets. Vauxhall told the BBC: “Many of the failed items highlighted in this report, such as brakes, driver's view of the road, registration plates and tyres, are directly attributable to vehicles that have covered above average mileages. Since Vauxhall was one of the largest suppliers of fleet vehicles during the period surveyed (2004-2007), and fleet vehicles typically cover higher mileages than most, it comes as no surprise that some of our cars appear in this list. -

Hyundai i20 Earns 5* NCAP Rating 28 May 2009 (News)
Crucially the i20 scored an impressive six out of a maximum seven points in the ‘safety assist’ category, receiving top marks for its seatbelt reminder and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). ESP helps to minimise the risk of skidding by applying brakes to individual wheels to direct the car where the driver wishes to go. Euro NCAP now insists that 85 per cent of volume sales should be fitted with ESP as standard before a new car can be eligible for a five-star rating. -
1920 Rolls 20HP Goshawk in Barons Auction 6 Mar 2008 (News)

In icy conditions the differences are more apparent. A car on summer tyres will travel 11m further when braking from 20mph on ice than a car on winter tyres. Is it worth the money? It’s fairly easy to recommend winter tyres if you’ve experienced them first hand in the conditions they are designed for, but they do cost money. -

The 99V 40k mile 3.0V6 SE auto bid to £13,150, the 2000X 29k mile 3.0V6 auto sold for £15,150. But bargain car had to be an 02 reg 3k mile 2.5 six-speed auto with the new electronic parking brake. Top bid for that car was £18,800. Oddballs of the day included an 86D 95k mile BMW 635 CSIA with a hunky set of alloys and very little fraying round the edges. That sold for £2,350. -
1946 Jaguar 3½ litre Mk IV at No Reserve in Historics Auction 10 May 2019 (News)
Last, but not least (25 cars and motorbikes offered at No Reserve), a RHD 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster manual with 85,422 warranted miles (supported by invoices), new rear brake discs and pads last year, stainless steel exhaust and Pirelli P-Zero tyres. Altogether, 180 vehicles in the auction including an Aston Martin DB4, a DB5 and a DB6 Volante, two Mercedes McClarens, a Maybach 62 and plenty more to get excited about.
