2008 ford ka - gear ratio 16 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Dont know how i missed finding out about later cam chain ka fuel consumption but its now costing me £10 week more than my old ka. As i intend to keep it for years and spend out on body repairs rather tgan risk another cambelt, that money will have gone in petrol. -
Peugeot Partner van - Partner Van Trouble Starting ! 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The problem we have is starting it in the mornings, we have changed the Battery, Glow plugs, Starting Motor, Fuel Filter and still you have to turn it over 4 to 5 times with your foot pumping the Accelerator before it starts to chug, When it eventally starts it sounds like its missing for a while then it clears its self and is ok. -
Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 2007 2.0TDi - Diesel misfire 11 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Anyone know what would cause an occasional misfiring in my 2.0 TDi Passatt - happens at about 1800RPM with light throttle at say 42 MPH in 4th gear or 30 in 3rd. I get a series of coughs until I change gear or boot it. Tried new fuel, no dash lights, no apparent probs if I boot it through the revs. Happened every day now for the past week. 6K miles on clock. Thanks. {Moves across to Technical Matters} -

BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2001 2.0 erratic idle 17 Nov 2009 (Forum)
hi guys, about a fortnight ago my bmw stopped, it was diagognosed as a fuel pump problem. i had the injectors and pump refurbished at the factory. ive rebuild it and starts on the button. but at idle it is very erratic. slight touch of throttle and it evens out about 1000rpm. ive checked all the usual suspects but obviously im missing something. it sounds like it might be pulling in some air somewere. anybody any suggestions? -

Very strange, has anyone else experienced this, or have any suggestions. Many thanks Rich -
revs or torque for a smaller turbo diesel ? 19 May 2009 (Forum)
I was wondering if smaller (below 1.9 Litres) turbo diesel engines need to be driven harder to achieve better fuel economy. I was chatting to a bloke down the pub the other night and he thinks that changing up each gear at 2.500 rpm is no good as he thinks at least 3.000 rpm to get the right revs for the next gear. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.9 low power before turbo cuts in 14 May 2009 (Forum)
For example where I would drive up hill in top gear I now have to change gear and get the turbo to cut in to accelerate up the hill. I've changed the MAF, Fuel Filter, Air Filter and the Water Temp Sensor (on the rear of the cylinder head) all to no avail. -
Renault - Converting a Trafic van 13 May 2009 (Forum)
This is the best solution I can come up with without getting a dog trailer. Anyone got any other idea's? Does anyone know what the fuel economy, reliability is like? Any advice would be really grateful Thanks -
Freewheeling 14 Apr 2009 (Forum)
In times past, with carburettors, I can understand how this would keep consumption down, but on newer vehicles, with engine management, what exactly happens when (a) you freewheel with engine idling or (b) you simply go onto trailing throttle. Does the management system / fuel injection actually shut down completely? I say this because in a friend's car the computer showed zero consumption when he was on trailing throttle. -
misfuelling 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Each van has Sortimo racking and a Whale-supplied 330 litre tank so that a car, typically a diesel filled with petrol, can have its tank safely drained. The AA says its research shows that 150, 000 motorists a year get it wrong and need fuel systems drained. sign of the times eh.......... -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - How much should for I pay for this 08 model ? 21 Mar 2009 (Forum)

Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 01 1.3 Yaris : Stuttering once warm 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
SWMBO's Yaris seems to have developed an annoying fault: Once warmed up it seems to develop a stutter - almost like someone is pinching the fuel line or similar. This causes you to make fairly erratic progress down the road - "the car has hiccups" as my toddler son said. It only seems to start once the engine has warmed up and isn't noticeable from a cold start. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9dci "Check injection" warning light 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Am getting a warning light on dashboard "Check injection". I knew it was due for a service, so I've given it an oil change, oil filter & fuel filter. The light's still on. Any ideas? I'm loathe to take it to Renault - last time I had an emissions light & they said I needed a new EGR valve at £500 plus. I ignored them & the light went off after a few days. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.8TD no boost? 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've recently lost all boost pressure removing any slight performance it had, it only occasionally kicks in and takes off but not very often. I haven't noticed any excessive black smoke or fuel consumption and have also removed the EGR valve and cleaned it all out, could it still be the EGR causing problems? cheers in advance. -
Car versus train travel 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
£63 is the best fare I could find and 2 hours 23 mins travel time. No wonder no one uses trains to travel. £63 just also happens to cost the same in LPG fuel for 1000 miles of road travel... ...so guess how I will be getting to the NEC at Birmingham when I go soon? Even with parking costs of £8.00 at the NEC I will be quids in! -
Honda - Honda Accord Tourer 8 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Having got rid of the Smart forfour I have bought an ex lease Honda Accord tourer executive diesel and my first impressions are that it is a very nice car with all the toys except for one thing it does not have a fuel usage computer something I find strange on a car of this quality. Its very comfortable and quiet a very relaxed drive I have always had a bit of a down on Japanese cars but this is certainly nicer than my ex BMW 525 tourer but time will tell I suppose. -
