Having got rid of the Smart forfour I have bought an ex lease Honda Accord tourer executive diesel and my first impressions are that it is a very nice car with all the toys except for one thing it does not have a fuel usage computer something I find strange on a car of this quality. Its very comfortable and quiet a very relaxed drive I have always had a bit of a down on Japanese cars but this is certainly nicer than my ex BMW 525 tourer but time will tell I suppose.

This has been mentioned before Andy...
On the fascia there's a device with a needle that moves between markers - instruments like this were once common!
You'll soon get the hang of relating the needle's position to the figures on the trip meter or mileometer. Being a Honda you'll also find this method of calculation is extremely reliable (I can work out litres needed to within 2 per forecourt visit) rather than relying on a computer that produces wildly optimistic or pessimistic figures every time you use the accelerator.
Good luck with the 'new' motor :-)

Except that if the fuel gauge is anything like mine (petrol), it is only useful for indicating when the tank is low - on the first "half" of the tank, I usually cover 350-400 km and the second "half" only 100-150.

My Honda Accord Tourer ( the 2.4 Exec petrol 04 model) does everything I want and more .
Luxury motoring at a bargain price and surprisingly quick when the toe goes down .
I like the tourer because it remind me from the rear of the Scimitar.
The drawbacks are I only get a mileage of around 24 mpg when I'm round town with aircon on, 29 mpg on a run.
I know what you mean about the computer though , even SWMBO's Yaris has one. Why did they not include something like that when they thought of heated seats , cruise control, climate control and inbuilt GPS systems?
Only problems encountered in the 15 months I have owned it include misting headlights and rear tailgate electric motor failure . Both of these are known Accord problems and both were sorted without cost and promptly by the dealer under warranty.
I aim to keep it for a few years yet, even if the tax goes up .
Enjoy your purchase Andy.

Wow ! Thats certainly a profound statement that I bet Honda would love to hear, considering the BMW 5 series has been considered widely as one of the worlds best cars for years.

If it is like mine the warning light is very reliable - 10l left when it comes on.

Ditto on mine, 10 L every time. Although I try and avoid letting it get that low!
