  • TOYOTA ETIOS 2014 - TOYOTA ETIOS JERKING AND REVVING UP 14 Jun 2016 (Forum)
After I bought a new Toyota Etios 2014, about 6 months, it started jerking (going faster and slower) without me using the accelerator. Then all of a sudden it started revving up.  I can drive about 1km after starting the car, trying to stop at a stop st or robot and it will rev up to about 2000 - 3000, and this is when I have my foot on the brake.  Even if i drive downhill, freeing, not using the accelerator, it revs up to about 1500.
  • Toyota Corolla 1.3 1998 - Whistling when at high RPM 18 Apr 2016 (Forum)
A friend of my fiancee's mother is selling her 1998 Toyota Corolla 1.3 car. There are a few body work issues (which is all to be expected for an 18 year old car), and it drives much much better than the Peugeot 3008 I'm currently driving and has only done 98,000 and she has had it since 10,000. It's always been serviced and passed MOT's etc. It's hard not to like the car.
  • chevrolet cruze - Car pulling to the left.... not able to find fault 14 Jan 2016 (Forum)
And i know cars will pull when the road is crowning to one side but it doesnt pull the way it does to the right when the road is crowning... my steering wheel is always rolling left.... after driving on the tyres for 20,000+ miles they had very uneven wear... we have even tried aligning it so the steer ahead is to the right... so when i hold the steering wheel centred the car will drive right to try and counter the pull.... but this only works when on a completly flat surface... and even then i can still feel my steering wheel pulling through my hands to the left....
  • Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class - Mercedes CLK 2003 - transmission problems 14 Jan 2016 (Forum)
A few miles in to the drive home however it went back into limp mode and the engine management light came on. Car as before would get me to about 30mph until the very end of my journey where I got stuck at the bottom of my hill - the car revved but had no pull.
  • BMW 320 CI - What are my rights? 25 Jul 2015 (Forum)
As it has a 28 day engine & gearbox warranty only to be told by them that he has never took the warranty out on that vehicle. I have paid for a car that I cannot use and have taxed and insured it for it to just sit on my drive. I am extremely frustrated and feel I want to take legal action.
  • Various small hatchbacks - Young drivers, their cars and their parents 12 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Third, a girl whose mother and boyfriend bought her an old 1.0 litre Corsa, tyres were all extremely underinflated (I believe no-one had checked them in 5 months' driving) with one being clearly very old, very low on tread and a with apparantly damaged sidewall. This young lady drives three other kids to school every other day on Motorways and A-roads. Fourth, a lucky girl whose parents bought her a brand-new Dacia Sandero.
  • 2002 Ford Ka 1.3i - Buying advice - Buying a cheap temporary car, advice needed 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I had a nice car myself up until last month where I had to sell it due to lack of use. I'm able to cycle to work 5 days a week so my old car was just sitting on the drive losing value. I just want something cheap that'll do for a run around on weekends and doing the weekly shop. My younger brother is wanting to learn how to drive and it could be ideal for him to learn how to drive in while I've got it for the next year or so (I plan on getting something nicer down the line again).
  • Merc CLC - Advice on which car to buy - please help! 14 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Anyone got any suggestions about what else I might try?  I don't have a lot of spare time, so I can't manage to test drive every car I see.  I'd really like a short list of similar cars that will meet my needs. Many thanks, Judith
  • 4x4 for a rural winter 20 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I will need to make some longer journeys (300 mile motorway trips), so some comfort would be useful - Swap the fabia for a more conventional 4wd car that will do me for all year round driving. Budget here would be 10k-ish, which looks like Tiguan/Octavia Scout money. Doors anyone have any thoughts/recommendations? It seems like both options are a compromise (4x4 for being thirsty and uncomfortable for 'regular' driving, and 4wd estates for being less capable in the slippy stuff), but I don't know which is the lesser evil.
  • Small, petrol engined automatics - poor economy 1 Sep 2013 (Forum)
The car itself is an excellent example of how far the Korean's have come in the last 10 years, being comfortable, surprising spacious for a famiy of five, and simply doing its job well.  Not the most exciting car to drive, but who cares for a rental car. What was surprising was the relatively poor economy.  Before I discuss this I should state I was using only the trip computer as my guide and this resets at each fuel refill and secondly the driving was an odd mix of short, traffic laden urban trips and longer highway journeys (these usually five up).
  • Hyundai Santa Fe 56 plate - Starting from cold issue 21 May 2013 (Forum)
Occasionally, the engine starts and ticks over slightly unevenly but there is no power available, ie putting it into drive won't get it to move up the small incline on my driveway. The throttle has no response. Black smoke pours from the exhaust and there is a smell (to me) of unburnt diesel. Eventually, after a number of ignition restarts, the engine begins to rev as normal and I can drive away.
  • A6/A4 - Audi A6 or A4 Avant 7 Feb 2012 (Forum)
What are they like to drive, run and live with day to day? Are the diesels a better drive? I cant stretch to the 2.7 or 3.0 models and the 2.0 A6 seems way underpowered...... I have an old golf gtdi 130 going strong for the commute to work so this isnt an issue.
  • Hyundai i10 - fuel economy and journey length 20 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I bought a new Hyundai i10 1.2 and like some people on the forum I am disappointed with fuel consumption. BUT do I have unrealistic unrealistic expectations? I average 42 mpg  driving on A and B rural roads with a few stops and starts. I guess this is what is "combined" driving? The car is still "new" (1000 miles) and my typical journey length is only 5-10 miles. I change through the gears quickly and am in 5th gear when I go over 40 mpg - changing up gears at 1500-2000 rpms.
  • FIAT Panda 4x4 (2005 - ) - Panda Cross test drive 9 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Bear in mind that the car I drove had only clocked up 11 miles and, as the only example of the car that the dealer had, I couldn't drive far or push the car hard. I did find it livelier than my petrol-engined Panda 4x4 and, apart from a tickover, quieter and smoother. However, I found it too similar to my present car to justify a change which I estimate would at present cost me at least £6,000 and probably nearer to £8,000.
  • Peugeot 406 2.01 GLX petrol X reg - car struggles to start in cold or damp weather 7 Nov 2011 (Forum)
It sounds as though it's trying to fire, but I'm very aware that I will flood the engine if I keep trying, so I wait five minutes then try again, then another five minutes etc. It is driving me nuts, and if we get another winter like last winter I'm going to be back to sobbing over the steering wheel. Does anyone have any suggestions before I send this car off to the scrappy which would be a shame because - as I said - in the summer it's a perfect car to drive.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Nissan Qashqai power failure when driving 11 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with this from a legal standpoint. We bought a new Nissan Qashqai on the 1st September. I was driving the car on Monday at around 50mph along an A road when I noticed the power was failing. I looked at the dashboard and the petrol gauge had gone to zero (the tank was over half full), the monitor then went black.
  • Astra GSI 16v 1997 2.0 with 111000km - How is MAF sensor and IAT sensor used 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The problem is, when I start the car, and the temperature is about 12 degrees C, then the car runs perfectly, when the outside temperature is about 7 degrees C and lower or 15 degrees C and higher, then the car has problems idling when coming off a load, such as when you come to a corner or intersection, (depress clutch, and foot of petrol), then the engine stalls. This problem only presents itself for the first 2km of actual driving. I still have the problem if I just leave the engine idling for about 10mins before setting off. I suspect that after doing a bit of driving some other sensors are coming into play to balance the fuel mixture a bit more, but when starting out, something is out of balance.I just don't quite understand the process of which sensors are used during the initial startup of the engine, vs. later on while driving.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Headlight dazzling 12 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The only controls I have are the dial to switch between off-side lights-headlights, the ability to switch to full beam and the headlight levelling. I have tried using side lights, but they are definitely too weak for driving in the city at night but then I get the complaints about the head lights. The lights are definitely not on full beam. When I am driving I can see that my lights are lighting up signs that the lights of other cars aren't, so there is clearly something wrong, even though they don't seem brighter than other cars.
  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 91 1.6 Warning Lamps? 11 Sep 2009 (Forum)
