  • Citroen - C15 Van Bulb question 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hello The C15 I am currently (still) driving has n R2 bulb O/side and H4 N/side, advisory on the MOT last was change O/S bulb as alignment was out (it is, bulb is a tad wobbly inside), I duly bought a new R2, which lasted 5 minutes (probably/maybe bad handling on my part). To get to the nitty gritty. This is a bulb question, the H4 fitted is the same 'fitment' as the R2, but looks a very different bulb but fits the same headlamp hole, can I just buy any H4 (any bulb from any company), or do I have to specify which vehicle?
  • Portsmouth scientists reinvent the wheel 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Scientists at the University of Portsmouth, UK, have developed an A rtificial I ntelligence system to build the world?s first thinking car wheel. The steering wheels use microcomputers which perform 4,000 calculations per second and communicate with each other. Then the wheels use AI to learn as the car is being driven, making calculations and adjustments according to travelling speed and road conditions.
  • Citroen Xsara HDI heater fan fault 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
By adjusting the various dials and noting their actions, I have come to the conclusion that apart from the fan losing speed control, the overall system is working correctly. There are more than two chassis and power connections to the fan and I?m guessing the fan has it?s own built-in speed regulator and that it might be faulty. Does anyone know anything more? The fan is a Valeo unit.
  • Volvo S40 16v 2.0 - Spark plug thread? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a S reg Volvo S40 16valve 2.0 litre, coming back on the M25 yesterday a spark plug went, sounded like a chinook helicopter in my bonnet! Had the RAC out & the thread has gone, they tried to put a new spark plug in but it just spun around...they advised me to get a new thread cut or a helicoil fitted...I've spent the entire day phoning around & no-one seems to do this....the couple of mechanics that will do it can't for the best part of a week but I need it done asap...one of them suggested to get a kit myself & do it...no idea how easy this would be.
  • A3 delays ar Hindhead ( longterm) 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The new road will be 6.5km (4miles) long and includes 1.8km (1.1miles) twin bored tunnels under the Devil?s Punch Bowl Site of Special Scientific Interest. Work is well "underway" and things are slower even off peak. http://www.gnn.gov.uk/Content/Detail.asp?ReleaseID=277409&NewsAreaID=2 "At peak times traffic will take an additional five minutes to drive through the work in the interests of safety."
  • Chernobyl Charity Trip 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
On the 24th of August 2007, I, along with other riders from the bikeaid.org.uk team will depart on a gruelling 3,500 mile round trip journey across Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus and the Ukraine to Chernobyl ? the site of the world?s worst nuclear accident. We will visit the town of Prypiat ? the town built to house the workers of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant which has remained abandoned ever since that infamous day - April 26, 1986.
  • twin motors wipers. Any feedback? 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The Bosch system is already being fitted to the new Ford Galaxy, the Citroen C6 and the recently launched Mercedes-Benz S-Class." More info at http://www.bosch.co.uk/content/language2/html/3492_4530.htm Any feedback from users? it seems a good idea but I hope the the electronic controls are " robust" Having experienced a mechanical linkage failure ( in a thunderstorm) , a wiper arm fall off onto the bonnet, the motor burn out and finally smoke belch from the dash, the Bosch approach would avoid this risk.
  • Volvo S40 Diesel 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Last night while talking to a mechanic friend he suggested me to check out Volvo S40 diesels. I've checked the prices on autotrader and I'll be able to get R/S reg within my budget. I've got no idea of how good Volvos are and how good their diesels are. I would like the opinions of you experts. I really would like to know how reliable are they and are they economical.
  • Daily commute M6 J15 to M5 J2 (not M6J1) 6 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Another option would be to nip down to Stafford (on the A34) and get the train from there (a lot lot cheaper and I play golf in that area so its handy). Ive used the M6 tons of times but never really in the rush hour (s)....and the thought of putting my 96 TD Golf Estate through 500 miles a week seems a bit harsh !! Any thoughts ?? Thanks Richard

  • Ibiza power steering pump 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Daughter's 1998 1.4 petrol Ibiza (60k miles) had a noisy P/S pump, which was to be checked and sorted after Christmas. However, starting up yesterday the noise was suddenly much worse, all the fluid leaked out and it seems the bearing has failed (lots of free movement of pulley etc) There is a VW specialist dismantler nearby, I would appreciate advice as to whether it would be better to source a pump from this scrapyard or go for a re-con exchange unit with 12 month guarantee?
  • Catalytic Converter - Ceramic or Steel 29 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi folks, Have got to replace the centre section of my 1999 Citiroen Saxo 1.1's exhaust after the pipe rotted through. Been looking online and there seems to be two options, ceramic @ £30 + VAT or Steel @ £75 + VAT. Can anyone advise what the best option would be? For less than half the price, the ceramic one looks good, but there must be a reason its so cheap.

  • Peugeot Partner Van advice 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I need to get a spare key, the central locking/alarm type, Peugeot have quoted £138 plus £45 to programme it, this cost is a bit steep. Can I get one somewhere else ? The N/S door seal has come away from the top door recess, it appears to be ok, can I glue it back ? If so what adhesive ? Does anyone know where I can get the van boarded out in the Gravesend / Medway area ?
  • Saxo broken drive shaft 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi Guys, My niece has just had a drive shaft on the o/s of her 'w' reg Citroen Saxo break off. I was surprised to see it was tubular rather than solid and it had ended up like a corkscrew. Also the joint attached to the gearbox had been nearly yanked out causing oil spillage.
