  • '98 VW Passat SE 1.8 20V - Car Stereo 9 May 2015 (Forum)
So, I got a new car and fitted the stereo out of my old fiesta in this. I swapped the red and yellow power lines on the ISO harness so the stereo would come on with the ignition like it should and retain its settings/presets.
  • Cavalier 1.7d - Tight coolant hoses 31 Mar 2015 (Forum)
The car doesn't overheat in fact runs very cool the heaters are nice and hot, there are no air bubbles in the expansion tank, it has never had a head gasket and due to the cars age which is now 25 years old could this be the start of the head gasket starting to go?
  • Subaru Legacy - Vehicle Road Tax Refund. 24 Dec 2014 (Forum)
(If he has been using up any fuel left in the car this of course is now illegal). Under the old system it was in my interest the post the tax disc promply so that the DVLA received the paperwork to allow the two months refund, yet another kick in the teeth for the motorist.
  • Peugeot 406 - Immobilizer light on, car fails to start 12 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Drove my car the night before ok and in the morning the Immobilizer light was on with the dashboard road lights indicator flashing constantly and the wipers being active. I can hear the fuel pump priming, the engine turns over but it won't start because the injectors are disabled by the ecu.
  • Vauxhall Meriva A - Headlamp assembly replacement 7 Aug 2013 (Forum)
So a kamikaze pigeon apparently decided to shuffle off its mortal coil by throwing itself directly into the car's headlamp. Surprisingly, the lights still work although still surrounded by feathers! It is, of course, far too much to hope that I could just buy a new lense (as I was able to do on the old Cavalier - £5 from main dealers and a 5 minute job to replace) so it looks like a whole new headlamp assembly will be needed at a cost of £ouch.
  • Peugeot 306 D Turbo HDI - Faulty electrics 18 Apr 2013 (Forum)
This has occured more frequently as time has gone by. Yesterday my wife went to start the car and there wasnt enough life in the battery to turn the engine over quick enough. I then charged the battery and fired the car up no problem. I have gone to start the car up again this morning and again, has turned over too slow to fire up.
  • any - Fire extinguishers 2 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Aldi are selling fire extinguishers costing about £8.00 suitable for fitting in cars.   Have any BRs got an on-board extinguisher, and have any had cause to use one ? I'm in my 50th year of motoring now and I've seen one car fire and heard of two others.  The fire that I saw involved an old type Skoda and the fire occurred in the engine compartment, on the street, when the car was being driven.
  • Mitsubishi Lancer (2009) 1.8MIVEC - Mechanical details (Cam, clutch etc 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
(Mitsu recommend interim oil changes at 6k -- this is a pretty good indicator of a chain). 3) Do these cars have dual-mass flywheels? If the answers to these questions are all as I'm hoping, I may well acquire one of these. Yes I know they aren't the most interesting cars in the world but they're as good, if not better to drive than the newer Focuses are, and if the technology is basic I'm hoping that the Japanese build should ensure 5-6 good years out of a 3-year-old without the car costing a fortune.
  • Nissan Pixo Automatic - Limp Home mode? 27 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The car will be taken in this week but it is frustrating for the folks to be getting problems like this which reappear when they are apparently sorted. It is not a bad car by any means.   The old man wants to px for the model he sold the Pixo for – an Aygo MMT (eugh).
  • Audi A4 - Dashboard lights 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My 1996 A4 TDI is a nice old car that I have had now for more than 11 years - but it has one annoying  feature: in daylight, and particularly when you are driving into the sun, the speedometer and rev counter are almost impossible to see against the light.
  • Audi A4 Avant - New car A4 Avant or 3 series touring - diesels 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)
However the new A4 is much improved and a really nice car too, plus my current Audi has been trouble free. To my mind the pros and cons are that the BMW is perhaps a slightly better drive, but the downside is those stupid run-flat tyres and a more cramped interior.
  • Killer trees 29 May 2010 (Forum)
It seems every week there is a TV image of a barely damaged roadside tree that has been hit by a car. The outcome is usually a crushed car and dead or crippled car occupants. I can understand the scenic and environmental value, but not why they are still being planted at about a yard from the roadside.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 95 1.1 Heater not fully working 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've just bought a new fiesta 1.1 and as my old car died a sudden death I didn't have much time to be picky about it. The heater doesn't seem to really get hot, it gets just about warm enough to clear the windscreen but not to actually warm the car up.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 96 998c Timing chain rattle 23 Jan 2010 (Forum)
hi, is it possible that a loose timing chain could be causing the horrendous rattle coming from my micra engine? my tiny car has gone from being as quiet as a mouse to sounding just like an old diesel taxi! thing is, it came on immediately yesterday. was fine at 9am when i went to the shops, by 10am on the way home the noise was there.
  • During and after the airbags go bang ? 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
As i am just on the point of owning a modern car now I have a daughter I would like to know if anyone knows what its like when the airbags go off, do both front and side all go off together in any accident. after having seen the video clip of the old lady giving the mercedes a clip on the nose with umbrella and setting off airbags, what happens to the car in a SLIGHT BUMP with all airbags used ?
  • Renault Laguna III (2007 - ) - Considering new Laguna Tourer - Am I mad? 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Its a lovely car and the saleman will consider the Mazda 'at a fair price'. Given past posts about the last Laguna I am anxious about spending my hard earned on a car that is unreliable. Have Renault turned a corner and has anyone experience of 20000+ miles in the 'new' Laguna?
  • Hyundai i10 (2008 - ) - 09 1.2 Type of Coolant for i10? 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
would mixing different type of coolant be any problem? I saw on the website someone mention that different types of car should use different coolant, could anyone recommend which coolant I should go for? And if I filling my coolant, do I need to clear the old coolant first? (I want to keep the car in the best condition so please any car expert give me some good advice!)
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 Endura Engine, Petrol - Oil leaking into co 24 Jun 2009 (Forum)
This as since been changed but the problem remains, and although the gasket was very old, there was no obvious breach. The car is driving fine, not smoking or any other noticeable problems to myself, although is slightly more sluggish than when first bought - but sure that is due to age.
  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 06 2.0 alloy wheels & body work warranty 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have never washed the wheels with anything other than car shampoo (i.e no Wonder Wheels type chemicals). The car is three years old today, but the bodywork warranty is 6 yrs, so my question is Are wheels normally covered by a body work warranty? Does anyone have any experience of claiming succesfully for wheels?
