  • Rover 75 CDT problem 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The noise is much stronger when the car is cold; I replace the right shock-absorber, but nothing has changed. The retailer told me that all the 75's has the same problem, and soon will be a recall in order to solve it. Is that true? Do English 75 owners has this problem? Should I be patient and wait for a recall or what else can I do? Please, help me, I'm in deep trouble!!!!
  • WS Manual VW Polo 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I seem to recall that there used to be a Magazine dealing solely with V.W's where perhaps publications similar and almost identical to a WSM 's could be obtained at a much reduced cost and on par with that advertised in LandRover Magazine.(Disco - £47). Can anybody advise please? DVD

  • Shell Optimax: Another Perspective 4 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I remember the earliar Shell product fom the 1980's. Believe they marketed it as Shell with ICA - Ignition control additive. Lateral thinking suggests that Shell Optimax is a product evolved from ICA but without its downside. However Shell with its world class labs and years of expertise, got it wrong the first time.
  • Xantia 1.9 TD : Engine boom / power reduction 30 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My Xantia Estate 1.9TD seems to be suffering from an engine boom (noise) at over 2500rpm, certainly more noticeable and gets louder through higher revs. It?s just the same engine noise as usual, but a bit louder. (Doesn?t sound like a leaky exhaust or similar, though it may be from the manifold??) The power seems to be very slightly down too, but that may be my down to my imagination.
  • Winter driving and tyre pressures 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The logic behind this is from 4X4 drivers who reduce tyre pressure when driving in sandy/muddy/snowy conditions to increase the tyre?s contact area and therefore grip. They reduce tyre pressures by up to 75%, this is obviously a bit drastic and also extremely dangerous on normal roads and speeds. Is my logic off the mark here and is it that it's completely unintuitive and that increased tyre pressures are actually better ?
  • Pre-War Special. 17 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I saw a 1936/37 Riley Kestrel with a sexy Yellow fishtail sports body on Sunday. Engine Chasis and running gear were original. Body was a home made aluminium affair from the 1990's. THe body was not at all original. I'm assuming that, despite it's looks, this car will be cheap 'cos no collector would want a car with a recent body. So here's my point. I have a 5k budget allocated to buying a Caterham/Westfield at some point.
  • Free Scrap 18 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My apologies for posting this, but I have a 'T' plate BMW 728. Last of the straight 6's without fuel injection. It has been standing for 18 months, but still starts, drives and stops. I need to get rid of it before Friday night. If someone wants to give me money for it that would be nice, but if it can go to a good home where its bits would help someone else, thats O.K.
  • New Tyres 15 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Hi I am having two new tyres fitted this afternoon (R reg. Mondeo) front and rear passenger side. I don't know why these have worn more than the driver?s side, but they are only just legal. As I am driving to Sunny Wales on Saturday, I wanted to get them done. Could it be the tracking which is causing uneven wear and should I get the tracking checked when I get the tyres fitted?

  • Laguna II - v - Bora 13 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I am ready to order a new company car and have narrowed down my choce to (for various family, cost and tax reasons) either the Laguna II 1.9 dCi (Privilege) or the Bora S 1.9 Tdi (90bhp) The former has the room and the "features" (apart from giving a sunroof and full airconditioning) I am still at a loss why both are fitted - sunroofs lower the ceiling height and for anyone over 6'2" can brush your hair, which is annoying, though with the seat fully lowered this is not a problem.
  • Peugeot remote keys 16 May 2001 (Forum)
I have an S-reg Peugeuot 306 and have had regular problems with the remote keys. Sometimes the batteries last a few months, sometimes a few days. The problem appears to be that after the buttons on the key fob are pressed and then released, the contact with the battery is not properly broken and the battery then drains.
  • old cheap + fast... 19 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I am looking to get rid of my '87 Golf and get something early 90's and cheap. Really looking for something big and fast with lots of toys. At the moment I am considering a '92/'93 Vauxhall Senator 24V as they seem to go for around £1500 in loot. This seems incredibly cheap to me, anyone got any nightmare stories about them?

  • [C]5 go on a trip........ 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The whole time it will think you are on the M4 because just before Pangbourne you went over an M4 bridge which happens to have one of the little stations on it. Still, that isn?t Citroen´s fault, and as I say, it was quite useful on the motorways. What is Citroen?s fault is to put it miles from you in front of the windscreen right in the field of vision and then put a bloody great LED which lights in red or green depending on whether or not it has good news for you.
  • Defending BL/Rover 2 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Under BL they created the Montego which may make some laugh that I’d suggest it was a good car but it was. I sold plenty of these in the 90’s and not a problem was had and if you look up period road tests from the 80’s you’ll find the Montego in the top tier of all of them. It was a good car spoiled by early quality issue but once sorted in 88 it became a comfortable, quick and efficient family car.
  • Bring back the Motorshow 13 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Looking through the pages of old car mags I’m finding myself reminiscing over the glamour from the Motor Shows which were common throughout the country in the 80’s and 90’s and the UK national show which died in 2008. My dad bought several cars off stand at the local car show in Ayr, the pinnacle being a new Audi 80 16v Sport in metallic grey. It was a pleasure watching as the salesman put the sold sticker on it in front of the crowd.
