Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.8 Potential problems with low-mileage Focus 14 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Doesn't run very smoothly and lots of condensation from exhaust. 2. Original tyres (2000 manufacture), too old? 3. It's on its original cam belt. 4. Brake discs are rusty & fluid was last changed in 2005. Any other potential causes for concern on such a low-mileage car? -
Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - Diesel engine problem 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have a 5 month old X Type Jag 3500 miles (I bought the car new) and i am told by my local dealer that diesel is finding it's way into my engine oil and making it poor quality. They have changed the oil free of charge but have done nothing to solve the problem. -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Battery Maintenance 30 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I have noticed now the cold and damp spell has bestowed upon us, The cold morning starts have been slightly sluggish than normal. It still starts just the tone of the starter is down. The car gets a good 30min to an hour drive every day. Is that enough to maintain charge. It is fine in the high seasons. Is just topping up the fluid ok or is a regular charge (monthly) beneficial? The battry is 2 years old. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 - Clutch / Gearbox 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Can anybody offer some advice about a Zafira clutch/gearbox fault on my sister's 2 and a half year old car? Basically, with the engine running, you can't select any of the gears. However, if you put it in gear and then start it, you can drive it (but only in that gear). Had to drive it home in 2nd for her after it expired in Edinburgh at the weekend. -
Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - 96 2.5v6 Replacing Rear spring 22 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have a broken rear spring on my Omega 2.5v6 petrol. How do I replace . Is it just a matter of jacking up car ,removing road wheel, using spring compressor to compress and remove old spring and using same to put in new one locating on projecting lugs top and bottom. That is apart from above I do not need to dismantle anything else. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - Price for a van please? 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Mrs O has to sell one of these in her professional capacity, and is after a Black Book price for trade and private sale. Parker's and the like don't seem to have the exact model. Vauxhall Astra Envoy car-derived van (same as the estate, but without the windows) 1.6 petrol, first reg 1 July 2002, MOT until July this year, 23k miles at last MOT (and hasn't done much since). It has an old style V5. Would a private sale of a van incur VAT? -
Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 00 Driveshafts worn out at 45k. 18 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A friend of mine has had to have driveshafts replaced on her Citroen Saxo. the car is 7- 8 years old but has only done around 45k miles. is it a common prob on saxo's?? i always thought driveshafts are good for 100 k plus miles unless a rubber boot has split. the boot did split on one of the driveshafts but that doesn't explain the other one needing replaced at such such a low milage. -

BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 2006 525D + Nokia + Bluetooth 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
You pay £30K+ for a nice car and about £1000 to get Bluetooth as an extra & it works with your 2 year old Nokia phone. 12 months later - You pay Nokia £250 for a new model phone with Bluetooth. And they will not talk to each other. -

London to Brighton run 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I spent a very pleasant couple of hours this morning on the corner of Streatham Common watching this pass. I know every car was now over one hundred years old, and the brakes leave something to be desired, but I was positioned at traffic lights, and I was amazed by the number that 'ran a red'. Not one of them (five hundred odd) hit anything while I was watching. -

Corsa '02' ticking noise. I'm baffled... 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Could be at the drivers end of the dash ? Could be in the wing cavity or bulkhead area ? If it was an old BL car, I would say that the fuel pump was sticking..... I'm baffled and getting rather iritated..... Thanks for any ideas, Sutters. -
New use for speed cameras 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
A new use for speed cameras (motoring link) has been devised, to control excessive speed of skiers in Italy. http://tinyurl.com/28pzk7 With 26,000 accidents, 16 fatal, last year in Italy you can understand how speed on skis can kill or injure. It is interesting to note that the age group for excess speed is 19 to 25 years old - a very similar age group to young drivers who do silly things in cars without regard to other road users. -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say. -
Paint on bumpers 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have noticed a blister on the front bumper of our C5 today and, whilst it has collected numerous small chips and scratches over the years, that have gone down to the plastic, it has only ever flaked off once before, which was when I first bought it. It will definitely require a repaint to avoid an unsightly patch of black plastic. The car is now five years old. Is this kind of thing inevitable with paint on plastic? Would it be best to get the whole of the bumper done? Also, there doesn't seem to be any primer coat underneath the top coat. -
