Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 04 1.4 Engine losing power 21 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I was doing about 45 up a slight hill in 4th, when again I got this feeling like engine braking. This time though, it took me from about 45 right down to 20 and the handbrake and battery lights flashed on (for about a second). Although the weather is cold now, it was doing it when it was much warmer and my local Peugeot garrage don't have a clue why. It's not in any particular gear, or low revs, it's not when the engine is cold (the last incident was after 15mins at 70 on dual carriageway followed by 1/2 hr cross country!!) -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 2000 2.5 immobiliser problems 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)

F1 designer readies affordable electric sportster 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Other technical details include two electric motors that together put out 290kW (389bhp) and 590lb ft of torque ? all in a car weighing only 1055kg, just 145kg more than a Lotus Elise - a lithium-ion battery pack good for a 230-mile range, and four-wheel drive. The P1-E will be made from composite body panels over a carbon fibre and aluminium chassis. Not a bad looking lump of carbon and all, if the concept designs are anything to go by. -
Audi TT Coupe and Roadster (1999 - 2006) - 03 3.2 Locking and starting problems 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Last night when I arrived back at home from work and parked up, my TT would not lock with the central locking on my usual key. Thinking it was maybe the battery in the key (even though the key had worked perfectly fine and from long range up till then), I got my spare key and centrally locked the car with that. Upon coming out to drive to work this morning, I centrally unlocked the car with my spare key only to find that it would not start despite several attempts. -
Renault Megane (1999 - 2002) - Scenic 01 1.9dci timing belt failure. 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I was about 4-5ft away from a safe parking space and proceeded to stop but then heard grating type noises sounding like plastic being smashed and my car came to an abrupt halt and a loss of all electrics. I checked for loose battery connections etc and all seemed fine. On putting the key into the ignition all the pre-start lights came on but then nothing. After close inspection by the AA both my alternator belt and timing belt were sheared. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 HDi fuel problem? 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The only way to stop it is to switch off a few times and restart it. Sometimes it is ok for a few days, other times I can't clear it at all. I have tried taking the battery off to reset the ECU, but no joy. I suspect it is either an ECU problem or something to do with the fuel supply? When it does do it and I switch off the engine appears to run on for a few seconds, could this be a clue? -
Sell it or fix my 1997 Passat Estate? 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I removed the carpets and dried tham and then thought i had fixed the problem by clearing the drains (sunroof and battery), resealing the door membranes. I also got 2 faulty airbag sensors replaced (they had corroded in the wet conditions under the carpet) and had the cambelt changed. Now recently i got an earthing fault on the lights. -
Focus Filters 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
A different mechanic put the new fuel filter on today, after the garage getting 2 wrong ones! He fitted it in place quite easily and tried to start the car. The battery ran down, on went the big charger, it still would not start . He kept spraying some sort of fluid into the air intake which made the engine start, bang a bit , and then stop. This went on for 45 minutes. -
Car price, national vs local 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Whilst I realise mine is two years older, Corolla's of my type/age are extremely sought after in this area as they deal well with rural roads, rarely need parts (I've owned it five years, all it's ever needed was a new battery!) & seem to run forever. How do I work out a fair price without ripping my parents off? I'm surprised at the huge difference in local prices, between £700 & £1000, (this both for private and trade) more than the national guide says. -
Focus diesel woes 30 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The bill was £800 and they said the work was 'guaranteed'. Since then the car has broken down twice. First time they replaced the battery. Now it has 'stopped working' again. She has stopped the £800 cheque and asked them to fix the car again, but is now apparently in dispute with the garage. Can't say I'm surprised actually. Could all this hassle merely result from a stuck or malfunctioning pressure switch? -
Game for Friday - guess the cost 7 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The paint is damaged around the dent too. Realign drivers door so that it locks/unlocks properly every time. New battery Replace the bulb behind the speedo so you can see how fast you're going in the dark. That is everything Polo needs doing to him to make him a happy car. He will turn 100,000 before November is out. -
Astra 1.4i automatic 94 starter problem 11 May 2005 (Forum)

Italian Electrics 26 Oct 2004 (Forum)
It is due in to be looked at tomorrow, but he is now wishing he had never bought it. Apparantly when he told the dealer on the phone that he might disconect the battery overnight, he was advised not to as that would confuse the ECU and cause real problems. I know Italian electrics have had a reputation for being a bit eccentric in the past, but I thought they had got their act together by now. -
Low Mileage usage? 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
We currently have an Alfa 146, but I'm worried that the short journies that she does will damage the engine/gearbox long term - as it never gets a change to warm up at all. The battery seems to keep its charge ok - so I assume the weekly long-run keeps it ticking over. I thought the answer was obvious - change it for a small diesel - but this would not seem to be the right answer. -
How to reduce motoring stress... 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
3.Tax and Insurance - you do actually need these,to be legal and also to avoid an expensive personal lawsuit if you hit someone and are at fault.Have you actually done a driving test and passed? 4.Tyres- check they have tread on them and the pressures are correct.Check your oil/water/battery at least once a week. 5.Winter driving - don't drive unless you can see out of all your windows - clear your screen completely before you move off! 6.Driving in general - mention the two second rule and also show highlights of the piece on Fifth Gear about driving in the blind spots of lorries. -
n reg fiesta diesel starting nightmare 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Eventually started with help of jump leads (but there was no combustion noise for ages) After work took it to garage who renewed all glow plugs. Next morning would not start at all. AA came out. Said battery was okay but no current(?)at plugs.Found a glow plug touching a bracket( had happened at garage) which he said was earthing it and preventing enough electric getting to plugS(?). He fixed this and renewed wire. -
Good luck,gd management or gd Toyota ? 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My run-out model (Oct 97) 2.0l top-of-the-range Toyota Carina CDX has just sailed thru its latest MOT. At 81K miles it's still on original clutch, gearbox, exhaust, battery, pads and shoes (yes really). I had it new from a supersite for £12K. In 6 yrs it's had three Mobil 1 oil changes (DIY) per year, a cambelt change at 54K and is on its third set of Michelin tyres. -
Fiesta 1.8D H Reg Starting Problems 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
(Yesterday I only had to push it two feet and it started). The car turns over very strongly, the battery is charged up fine (we had a problem with the alternator belt a while ago and it was completely recharged after that incident!) The starter motor still sounds strong (although it isn't happy at all this starting lark!) -
Flushing oil and long journey 29 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I had thought that a good idea would be to put a flushing oil in the engine before I brought it down to Huddersfield (125 miles) and then do a full oil and filter change as part of a major service, which would consist of:- all filters points condenser plug leads battery etc. My main question is, what oil should I use? Can I use the STP treatment and still expect the oil to lubricate the engine for 120 odd miles? Or should I have an oil change done at one of the quick fit places and then change again when I get home? -
Xenon headlights 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It's just a shame VW want to charge so much money for doing a simple job because the lever is not easily accessible. Similarly in my Audi S3, one side is simple, but the other requires removal of the battery to access the lever!
