audi a4 - euro4/152 k/gm 29 May 2017 (Forum)
Hi all, still trying to get to the bottom of this one, ...how can an a4 that is euro4 and 152 k/gm with tdv in its description have a DPF? When the tdi pd130 is 154k/gm. I have read that it is the 115pd slightly tweaked round about the 06-57reg. anybody know for certain? thanks -
KIA Carens - Second hand car issues. What are my rights? 22 Apr 2015 (Forum)
So now almost 3 months after purchase the engine management light has come on and it's the bleeping DPF and there's a small leak in an oil line linked to the turbo. It's at my garage, just waiting to hear the exact details but looks like it needs new DPF or a DPF flush at the very least. So i'm coming to terms with the fact that i've bought a duff car. -
Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 Engine failure. 30 Jan 2020 (Forum)
The dealer has advised the engine has been removed and they are involving mazda. I am a frequent lurker here and at other motoring sites and have been warning her about imminent dpf issues amongst other things, but she has always thought her driving style meant she would be safe from such issues. From my own investigations I am thinking engine written off, probably due to blocked Dpf resulting in engine oil being contaminated with diesel hence low pressure light. -
Advice about diesel Vs petrol please 11 Oct 2023 (Forum)
That is my pattern every week day plus longer faster journeys some evenings and weekends. I’m wondering if I’m asking for trouble with a vehicle with a diesel DPF filter, but from what I can gather it’s a universal thing in vehicles built after about 2015. So it seems maybe I can’t avoid it? So, I’m thinking maybe a petrol vehicle may be better. But unfortunately all this is new to me, and I’m not sure what to do for the best? -
Auto load lugger 10 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I think we could get 7-8k for our astra and I don't really want to throw much more into the pot as this car will probably get ruined, but it'll save us a lot in skips! I'm reluctant to get a diesel because of the DPF clogging in stop/start driving, but will a 10 year old touran even have a DPF? I'd just like some ideas/alternatives if anyone can suggest anything. Many thanks! -
Snake oil that seems to work! V Power + Nitro 5 May 2017 (Forum)
I've used the odd tank of premium diesel for years but since the VW scandel I've used more of it and for the last few months nothing but V Power+Nitro diesel. Over time a couple of things have changed. Firstly my DPF is not doing any active regenerations, none in 2500 miles, this is my third DPF car so I know the symptoms. My driving has not change and most of the miles were in cold weather when its usually at its worst. -
VW Golf MK6 - DSG gearbox 13 Dec 2016 (Forum)
So I took my car in as it had the DPF light on which they managed to fix for 80. While doing this they told me they thought my gearbox which has only 40k on had a bearing issue. I hadnt noticed any issues noise or problems getting in gear however it is automatic. -
Ford Focus - Unhappy with work Carried out by Garage 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I am unhappy with the work carried out by an RAC approved garage after my Focus brokedown. They replaced the EGR and carried out a forced regen of the dpf, they handed the car back to me and it was smoking excessively. I was told that the excessive smoke was down to excess DPF fluid in the fuel and that it would calm down. I drove the car for no more than 5 miles in total before I decided that enough was enough. -
Kia Sedona 1.5 Diesel - May I have your views please 26 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Been offered a Sedona . 2008 , 60 k miles FSH , one owner £1500 Understand it doesn’t have a DPF but the road tax is high ? Looks nice but maybe “ All that glitters ?” Not much on HJ reviews so I would be grateful for your views and opinions. -
a4 - audi 1.9 tdv 25 May 2017 (Forum)
, if you compare a A4 1.9 115 05 reg, with the same 56 reg the latter one is...tdv, but both are euro 4, the earlier one is 154 k/gm, latter is 152 k/gm. With just 2 k/gm difference, that cannot be a DPF on the latter? Can anybody shed any light on this. Cheers -
The fear factor - cars 13 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Because of the costs involved in repairing a modern car outside of warranty, are my friends right in getting rid of their astra diesel? Gearbox failure, needs clutch, exhaust dpf and a major service required plus brakes and tyres. Car is 5 years old due mot, they can get a good deal on a nearly new car . I said don't waste any more on that astra . -
For all-Thanks - Something I would like to say 6 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Many many of the comments are helping me to shape my future choices, and those comments a few years ago abou DPf''S and other "pollution devices and DMF's etx have been really useful. -
BMW 520D E60 2006 - DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER - REPLACMENT COST 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Hi The iDrive is suggesting the DPF will need changing soon. Can someone let me know what I should be expecting to pay for this job please? I seem to be seeing widely varying costs for the parts and also not sure how many hours labour this usually is. -

Main dealer advises not to buy their new cars 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Enquiring about the whole range of diesels - advised best not to buy any of them due to DPF`s and wifes ultra short journey use. Top marks for honesty from the sales guy - who consulted the service manager while I was on the phone. But what a choker for a desperate industry that needs to sell new cars or face going under. -
Petrol or diesel 7 Aug 2022 (Forum)
My annual milage on longer trips will be about 5000 but they will all be long enough to regenerate a DPF. Any thoughts/advice very welcome. -
Toyota Rav 4 2.0 diesel 65 place 2WD - May I have your views 21 Apr 2018 (Forum)
With 44k miles Intended use is for urban work with very little fast runs. With problems reported with the Dpf on HJ reviews doesn't look promising. Grateful your views? -
10 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Why don't manufacturers use the engine management system of diesel cars to alert the driver when DPF regeneration is in progress, with a message advising that the engine should be kept running until it is completed? Similarly, when a turbo has been running under heavy load, the EMS could intervene to prevent the driver switching the engine off until it's had a chance to cool off. -
Ford Mondeo - mondeo knocking noise 18 Jan 2018 (Forum)
hi after driving 30 miles or so, when stopped at a junction i get a knocking noise from under the front of the car in the dpf area. it sounds like a flap trying to open but keeps flipping shut again. the car runs perfect, no codes or messages and pulls away fine and then may not do it for a couple of weeks. any ides appreciated. many thanks -
Ford Focus Estate 2008 1.6 tdci - VNT melting and going in the turbo 10 Jul 2017 (Forum)
The main problem is with the vnt that gets deformed and loose, and eventualy hits the turbo breaking its metallic "wings". It has been recently remaped with dpf off and egr off with a added 24hp
