  The price difference between standard unleaded and premium (e.g Shell V power) locally is about 6%, so only worth the extra if mpg is increased by more than this amount.   Obviously some cars designed for higher octane fuel will go better, my question is not about acceleration/speed but mpg in normal driving.

  I generally run my cars on Shell V-Power or other high octane fuel, and have done so for many year. In almost every car i have driven, I have heard some pinking (at least I think its pinking), usually whilst driving at medium speed up a hill.

  Hi, does anyone have any opinions regarding the reliability and quality of the new T5 transporter/Caravelle. Our 02 T4 caravelle has been very dissapointing (no where near as bad as the v-Class, but that's not saying much). We are struggling for alternatives as we need a wheelchair accessible vehicle that has enough weight/power to tow a decent sized caravan. Any ideas would be most welcome.

  HonestJohn, In your Car Advice column for The Telegraph, 13th Jan 2012, you advise that Shell V-Power is the best petrol and BP Ultimate is the best diesel. Can you tell me why you believe this to be the case?  I'm aware of the argument put forward about cleaner fuel systems and delivering better economy it's just what is about one specific brand versus another.

  A typical 2.0 TD large hatchback weighs about 50% more Has an engine 50% bigger Produces 84% more power (138 v 75bhp) Accelerates quicker, especially in-gear acceleration and... only uses about 1/3rd more fuel. So, where are the 80-100mpg small cars then? Until then I'm over the moon with 45mpg.
