Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - What would you do? 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Today the warning light is back on and the car is running rougher than an old diesel 405! The OH is really annoyed and feels she is being fobbed off, can we legitimately take it to another dealer or do you think it would be better complaining to Skoda UK? -

road tax a joke - not worth sharing 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The new road tax costs just make a joke of the law and labour goverment in this county how can you tax a car on its emissons when new (ie whats on the log book). So a three year old 100,000 worn out 4x4 or similar can be taxed for the same money as a new one ?,when the old one is clearly smoking it self to an early grave but just scrapes thru a MOT each year. -
Manufacturer's warranty 3 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My father in law has a car that is now coming up for 4 years old. The manufacturer's warranty was for three years. When the car was still well under warranty, he detected a faint noise from the back when driving. He worked for many years in the motor trade, and knows cars well enough to have an idea what it was; he was sure it was a wheel bearing. -
Car history check - not guaranteed 23 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Also, 3 new tyres seemed a bit odd - why not two, or four? Or is that reasonable in an 8-year old car? Incidentally, from this site I had printed out the list of standard things to check on a used car and having that to hand was very useful indeed, so thanks for the help HJ. Now about to check out a 6-year old 525 TD, asking price £3950, with same! -

Volkswagen Passat - How Can I tell they changed the brake fluid? 8 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I explained that I would be travelling for the next six days and after reading the warnings in the service schedule the car was dangerous. They agreed!, but then rang back to say they had re-checked all the records and yes the fluid had been changed and the record just marked incorrectly. My question is how can I tell if the fluid is new or three years old? -
Recent Crash, Help wanted ref Insurance Co, please 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
My question is this. Because the car is over ten years old, (very low mileage, very well looked after, lots of life in the old car yet), I have this feeling the Insurance company are going to try and write it off. Has anyone come up against this sort of thing and been able to get it back off the company and get the damage repaired themselves? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.3 Best method of changing air filter? 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This might sound like a daft question but I changed the air filter on my dad's car a few weeks back (same engine 1.3). i found it quite hard as the top of the cover did not lift off, I had to slide the old out and slide a new one in, it took me a good 15 minutes (compared to about 30 seconds it took me to this my MK3 Fiesta and my dads old Ladas). -
Rover 827 pulling to the left 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
However when I have then tried to get the car to do it again, the car has driven perfectly. It might be just that the wheel has been caught up in a rut in the road and just the low gearing on the steering wheel makes it seem more noticeable than in other cars. (827 steering has some stupidly high number of turns lock to lock). -
Handling 5 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Whilst I may well be wrong that is not my definition of handling. The most potent car I have driven for any distance was some years ago in a newish Porsche 911 on some old Autobahns in Germany and it constantly needed steering correction. To a lesser extent the Gtis I have owned were more sensitive to road camber than cooking family saloons. -
Remote Central Locking 18 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Not very helpful in lots of circumstances. (although his remote boot opening works independently - which is quite good in supermarket car parks) My question is - should Mr H's car automatically lock itself again, after using the remote? The dealer/service agent says it should - be it's damn inconvenient. It seems an odd thing to have changed since my car came out - unless there's a good reason for it, that we haven't realised? -
When is the right time? 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
A 1 year old with 25000 miles for under £7k seems the way to go. I do not live locally, are these cars still under warrenty and dealer serviced generally? thanks for any advice -
Good lowish insurance group car for large young driver 11 Aug 2018 (Forum)
The time has come for my 22yr old son to run his own car due to starting a post degree new job. For the moment he will take on my owned from new 17 year old 126k miles Skoda Octavia that has been well maintained and is MOt'd until March but I'm not sure it will make it through the new test next year (EML issue - caused possibly by EGR etc - not affecting running or economy & minor oil leak) Budget - circa £5k and probably petrol So starting to investigate what next.
