  • Volvo V70 2005 electric driver's seat 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
On a previous Volvo when you opened the door with the key fob the seats automatically adjusted to the settings for that key and are supposed to do that for 2005 V70's. On my current Volvo the seat settings are registered, but 98% of the time the seat does not adjust automatically to the key fob which opened the door (my wife and I have different seat settings and individual key fobs) and to adjust the seat for the relevant driver you have to push the manual button in the seat to get the correct setting.
  • Why? 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Day off today ( Queens birthday), decided to take the wife and children to Paignton Zoo. Anyway by the time we get there we have to park in the overspill carpark and it,s pretty empty.Evenso i decided to park a fair lick from the pedestrian exit, which i mistakingly thought would allow us to get the youngests buggy out and sorted with no problems. Bearing in mind that their was a gap of 5 empty car spaces in every direction why o why did the driver of a BMW 530D Tourer need to park next to use forcing the wife to relocate the buggy with a half strapped in child.

  • Nissan Almera motorway performance 3 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi there, I've got my mind set on the Nissan Almera, as it seems to be a good first car buy (95-98 range) : - Cheap insurance (£860 from endsleigh with 0 ncd) - Cheap - Late 80's styling but practical , so theft chance low - Reliable from all reports read - Comfortable - On paper , 40MPG for petrol 1.4 My main curiosity is how the car runs on the motorway. Since these cars really are as rare as hens teeth where I am (Newcastle), I was wondering if anyone on here has much experience with them on the motorways.
  • Terrible news for Chicago commuters 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
"Workers in Chicago and surrounding areas have among the longest commute times in the country, according to the Census Bureau?s annual American Community Survey released Wednesday" It begins. "Chicago ranks second in the country for cities with 250,000 people or more with an average one-way commute time of 33.2 minutes" How terrible!

  • MOT - Discussion 10 Mar 2005 (Forum)
...that some MOT test stations deliberately fail vehicles in order to boost the parts and labour section of their business or else serve as a opportunity to take "back-handers" ...therefore, should: Commercial companies conduct MOTs? Each town/district have a MOT test station(s) that is/are funded out of the MOT test fee and by the Road Fund License? A town/district MOT centre, run by civil servants or contracted out to a service provider with no commercial outlet or association with the automotive trade?
  • 1998 Peugeot 306 D Turbo Timing Belt 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
This one has 65K miles on the clock, but have not seen the service history yet. Secondly, the Car-By-Car says this:- " Spate of conrod failures on 1997 -1998 R and S reg 1.9 XUTD diesels;" Does this apply to the D Turbo? I have no idea of the XUTD is the same as the D Turbo engine! Thanks in advance everybody, I promise to get him to buy something soon! Blue

  • 4X4 Braking Distances 5 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The Land Rover Discovery TDV6 HSE on dual purpose tyres did 70-0mph in 51.2m with a kerbweight of 2718kg. Rather puts paid to one of the anti-brigades main arguments that 4X4's have longer stopping distances! As a Range Rover driver I may be a little biased, but it has to be good for all motorists to have some factual evidence as we are all under attack by the anti-car groups. -- \"Nothing less than 8 cylinders will do\"

  • 306 1.4 XR 1996 Really Poor Handbrake 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
306 1.4 XR 1996 Really Poor Handbrake I have just replace both H.Brake cables on the wife?s 306. However, even with FULL adjustment on the handbrake lever it still wont hold very well? After replacing the cables I replaced the drum and gave the pedal a good few pumps to set the adjusters.
  • Car Finance Laws 23 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I asked for them to fax me a copy of the agreement so I could read the terms and check all the details before making a 200 mile trip to sign and collect. I was told it?s illegal to send finance documents out, Anyone know if this is the case or a made up story? Thanks Chris
  • Diesel or Petrol?? 15 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Curiuous as to what people think.I own a 2001 Passat 1.9TDi.There is now a 6p a litre difference at the pumps, the servicing costs are greater and the cars themselves are more expensive to buy.It appears that the only plus side is the lower Road Tax and in some cases, cheaper insurance.I am thinking of changing my car and looked at the new shaped Vectra.a 2.2 SRi petrol is about £1200 cheaper to buy than the 2.2Dti Sri diesel.I do around 15K miles a year.To me s things stand, the petrol seems the better option.
  • Daimler Double Six. Any good? 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Probably a sucker for punishment, but I really fancy a Daimler Double Six. The Series 3 Jag version and in addition to the overpriced S****ra of course. Has anyone any experience of running or working on these? Prices go from £300 to £15000 for a brilliant one, so the margin for getting it dramatically wrong seems massive. I have £10000 to spend.

  • vauxhall ecotech cylinder head 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My cars done 135,000 miles now but its now starting to drink about a litre of water every few days so I would think its the head gasket.Ive changed HG,s on SOHC engines but not on the DOHC type.Would I be able to take the head off without removing the inlet and exhaust manifold???Is it possible to get to the head bolts without removing the camshafts as I've heard on the ecotech engine the head bolts are underneath the cams????
  • Letter from Telford 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Telford is....... interesting. Like Basingstoke but without the charm. Or Milton Keynes without the historical grandeur. It\'s just a mass of retail parks surrounded by dual carriageways, set out like huge roundabouts. Utterly lacking in any redeeming features. Travelling is taking between 3:30 and 4:45 at present. Roll on the winter and the inevitable 6:00plus home trip.
  • Mondeo wheel trims move on wheel 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My local Ford dealer said it was due to the combination of rimless wheels used on the new Mondeos and the particular tyres fitted from new - Continental Premium Contact. They replaced the front tyres with Continental Sport Contact 2's under warranty but that didn't solve the problem. I've seen other Mondeos with wheel trims out of alignment with the valve, so I know I'm not alone in having this problem. Has anyone else had this problem and have you successfully solved it, if so how?
