  • Changing the oil On my new M5 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have recentley bought a 2000 (W) Reg BMW M5 Fitted with the 5.0 V8 Motor, I plan to change the oil recentley and was wondering if it was ok to use fully synthetic (Castrol GTX Magnatec) In these, or if there is a special Oil BMW Reccomend, I was told by a dealer \"Theyd get back to me\", Being a Peugeot Techinician for 20 years I dunno much else!!
  • Oil change frequency 22 Nov 2003 (Forum)
In his column, HJ is always insistent that oil should be changed well before 9K miles. This then puts him in conflict with the boffins at BMW, whose service interval indicator system bases its advice in part on a sampling of the oil. In my case this gives a service interval of about 13K miles.
  • KIA Sportage won't change gears in the cold 8 Nov 2016 (Ask HJ)
My 2005 KIA Sportage doesn't go into gear when the engine us cold, especially during the mornings. Please can you tell me the cause of this?
  • BMW E46 Oil Change Frequency 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
So my obvious question is - should I ignore my clever car telling me it doesn't need new oil for another 10,000 miles (even though it's already done 5,000 miles on it's current oil)? It seems an awfully long time to go between oil changes (even fully synthetic). I don't want to waste my money but I do want to look after my car.
  • Accord Diesel oil change 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
(I never thought I would struggle to find an oil filter!) Second question - how clean should I expect the oil to be after 10 miles driving? It's not filthy, but it's definitely already started to blacken a bit. Do I assume that this is residual oil in the engine after the drain, or is the cynic in me right that the filter change might have been skipped?
  • Oil change every 90 days? 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Just been looking on this US site http://www.csgnetwork.com/oilchangecalc.html at this progam for oil changes and came across this statement. This program will calculate the calendar time of 90 days in the immediate past. If you have not had the oil and filter in your motor vehicle changed between that date and today, you are exceeding most manufacturers maintenance suggestions.

  • Car not had oil changed in 5 years / 60,000 miles. 20 Sep 2025 (Forum)
So a few weeks ago I bought my girlfriend's car, it hadn't had the oil changed or been serviced at all since she'd owned it. 5 years, roughly 60k miles. Somehow she never had problems with it. She only Ever had minor issues and never broke down etc. Now, I changed the oil and filter as soon as I got it a few weeks ago.
  • Interim Oil Changes 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I would appreciate a word of advice from you trusted back roomers please. I am usually in full agreement with the Servicing and oil change principles recomended by this site i.e if you want engine longevity then complete an interim oil change at 6 monthly intervals etc. My wife drives a Corolla 1.4 VVTi and only does about 5K miles a year.

  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Diesel (2008 - 2009) - oil and filter change - put old filter back on 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Yesterday my Legacy went in for its 12,000 mile "service" - oil and filter change and inspection at a main dealer. They rang saying they'd drained the oil and didn't realise that the diesel used a different oil filter and they didn't have one in stock. A double whammy!

  • Bottle jack oil refill 8 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I found it again yesterday and it still works (not tried under load) and it dawned on me that I have never once changed the oil. There is a diagram on the box which shows a removable rubber plug to allow oil replenishment on the jack body.   Should I change the oil and if so what grade of oil does it need.

  • BMW 5 series F10 535d - How often should I change the oil 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I recently owned a 2002 BMW E39 530d which I bought from new, covered 172000 largely trouble free miles and sold it in excellent condition. I changed the oil every 6-7000 miles.  I have replaced it with a new 2015 5series F10 535d with 50,000 mile service pack but the first oil chage is not due until 21,000 miles. I recently took it in to the local BMW dealer for an additional oil change at 10,000 miles.
