  I have a 1991 Volvo 480 Turbo, The rear nearside handbrake does not operate. The handbrake cable pulls a lever mounted on the caliper that should operate the caliper piston but does not (does this work mechanicaly via a lever internally??)

  In the reply to the 'Superman' comment, the part that says "Quite a lot of Volvo owners are coming very unstuck from trying to run their Volvo diesels on anything else" is not correct. The EGR / EGR cooler fault with the Volvo D4 modular diesel engine is well-documented and is a fundamental design fault from the factory, compounded by inadequate pre-launch testing.

  Hi I'm hoping that someone may be able to advise me on which car, either a Saab9-3 1.9tid vector or the Volvo S60 2.0t se. They are both 03 reg, both have best part of a years MOT and have mileage of around 140 000. Priced at £1500. I am guessing the Saab probably has better fuel economy, being diesel.

  My volvo s40 2.0 d sport' has no troubles starting in good weather but as soon as it gets cold i find it very hard to start:( ive had the glow plugs changed' sometimes it can take up to a half hour:( i got it put into volvo who charged me £1000 for a new starter ang ignition switch and they told me that for a further £700 something to do with the column' but it still might not be fixed im at my wits end:( i dont know whether trying a relay but theres no fault code for this but im hoping someone out there could please help i would be very gratefull regards

  . - The cacophony of noises reverberates round the cabin c/w a vibration worst between 1500-1800 revs. It has been like this since new. I was invited to a "Freedom test drive " by volvo and drove the same model,- that one was really quiet. Has anyone else had this experience? Volvo say it is ok!! Does anyone know what the standards are for cars in terms of noise and vibration? or can anyone assist in where I might find out such detail.

  I'm taking my time to buy one for myself because I want a car that I'll keep for sometime so I'm not in any rush. Last night while talking to a mechanic friend he suggested me to check out Volvo S40 diesels. I've checked the prices on autotrader and I'll be able to get R/S reg within my budget. I've got no idea of how good Volvos are and how good their diesels are. I would like the opinions of you experts.

  I have recently acquired a S40 1.9 TD SE on a 98 plate and have a question. Apart from a normal service I want to change the coolant, my nearest Volvo dealer is over a 30 mile round trip away so I popped in to Halfords and brought some Anti freeze which is red in colour and is a silicate free organic acid formula to Volvo / Renault 41-01-001 standard.

  Firstly, I've no connection with Volvo, but thought I should publicise their Freedom test drive event because it was very quiet there today - I had a great time driving various Volvo's around Hampshire. They allow you to take your selection (pre book 2, but if available, others on the day) away for 30 mins which means you get a great chance to really give the cars a proper test drive.

  I also want an automatic, & mpg isn't an issue as I only do about 6k a year. Much research seems to point to a 1995/96 Volvo 850, as I fancy an estate from a long-term practicality point of view. I did consider a 1998 Passat & the Volvo V40, but the scary reliability stories put me off. Can anyone offer advice as to the wisdom of such a purchase?

  We purchased a used approved Volvo XC60 from a Volvo main dealer 10 months ago. The car had covered 14,600 miles. We thought buying from a main dealer would give us protection should any mechanical failures occur. The car has a 3 year of 60'000 mile manufacturers warranty which expires this September. 2 weeks ago we discovered the clutch was starting to slip (at 24'000 miles) and reported to our local dealer who advised that it was a grey area and that inspection would cost £600 if the damage to the clutch friction plates was deemed to be through abuse ie poor driving.

  Hello HJ, Can you help? Purchased 61 plate Volvo C30 in March 2012. After two weeks I returned the vehicle to the Volvo dealer to have intermittent acceleration fault looked at. It has been back 8 times and still they cannot mend it. It is the new generation engine from Volvo.

  Doing my sums it will cost me at todays fuel prices £553 a year more to drive the Volvo to work over the bora. But here is the rub, I brought the volvo before the fuel prices went silly and paid £4500 14 months ago. I brought the Bora to replace the Volvo for £4500 about 2 months ago.
