Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi Econetic 95 CO2 - how good is it ? 7 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I am seriously considering purchasing this car but a few niggles concern me. The brakes are a little soft at the beginning of brake pressure and the ride and comfort levels over bumps tends to be a bit choppy, the clutch - read below. Also on the test car I drove the clutch bite was only 1 cm from the floor. -
eco driving - does it conflict with Roadcraft? 28 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Anticipation, observation and "acceleration sense" (i.e. looking ahead and staying off the gas rather than braking at last minute) seem to be common skills required in both driving disciplines. However, it grates on me whenever I watch HJ ecodriving in video roadtests and chugging along with minimal revs in top gear! -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 front brake pad replacement with 5mm left? 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)

sounds dodgy to me not really bothered, just wondered what its supposed to be having changed lots of pads and discs myself over the years, and with mates, i dont recall anyone ever using "brake cleaner" ah well do let me know charged me for a gasket seperate to the oil filter too, when i bet it came in the same box! -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 01 2.0 Hdi Which brake pads / discs? 26 Aug 2009 (Forum)
My front pads and discs are mintex (box set) that I got 2 years ago (25000 miles) They now have a fairly deep groove on both sides and now make a fairly... -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 2008 1.6 HDi engine races 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The following problem appears to have surfaced which I will report to the dealer, but I am wondering if anyone has any advice first so that he can't pull the wool over a dizzy female's eyes!!!. Very occasionally, when I release the accelerator in order to brake, the engine appears to continue to accelerate and I have to "fight" to get the brakes to operate. It is not caused by me accidentally continuing to press the accelerator ... I have checked. On reaching the top of a steep hill on Sunday I released the accelerator, the engine started to rev faster and the ECU light came on momentarily. -
Vauxhall Meriva A MPV (2003 - ) - 08 1.6 Handbrake failure 9 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi Folks Just back from hol's to find my parents new meriva rolled away with h/brake on & demolished a garage wall & severly damaged the rear of the car! Now I said why wasn't it in Park as its an Auto & they have told me it doesn't have Park. I haven't had a chance to do any research yet but do these new auto's rely on just the hand brake or should it have a locking solonoid in the auto box? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.6 Rear Wheel bearing 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I would also like a some confirmation of my diagnosis of the wheel bearing being at fault in the first place. I get a metalic grinding sound from the nearside rear wheel when I apply the brake pedal. I have removed the rear drums on both sides on the rear axles and there is plently of "meat" left on the shoes and no signs of metal grinding on metal hence the wheel bearing being at fault as the brakes appear fine. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 06 2 Electronic Handbrake Towing issues 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Problem is I'm worried about the Electronic handbrake engaging at some point and leaving me static in the middle of the road (it comes on when the engine turns off). Is there any way to disable the Electronic Handbrake so i can just rely on using the foot brake for the journey? CM -
Puzzling driving test question 21 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Most are sensible (how to check levels, tyres etc) but one seems really odd to me - Question "Show me how you would check the parking brake for excessive wear." Model answer "Demonstrate by applying parking brake that when it is fully applied it secures itself, and is not at the end of the working travel." Its that last bit that's odd. -
Daewoo Nubira (1997 - 2003) - 51 Reg 2.0 Litre - Creaking Noise O/S Wheel area 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi When I brake there is a creaking/ grinding noise coming from the front passenger side of my Daewoo Nubira Estate... It isn't the brake pads as these have been replaced and in the past it has been regreased around that area (under tyhe car) and been ok for a while however it is back and no matter how much grease you put there it comes back in day or 2. -
Almera rear brakes 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)

Skoda Elegance 1.9TDI 5/2003 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Not the PDI engine, so I have been told good quality semi-synthetic only is required, and it will be on 6 month oil changes (6-7K miles) rather than variable servicing. About to ask local Skoda garage if they can consult their computer to check if brake fluid etc has been done. Was considering oil & filter change, brake fluid swop (DOT4?), Coolant change (probaly 5 year anti-freeze). When is the cambelt due on these, and do you require tensioners etc (405 still on original after 237k) Can the backroomers suggest any other jobs I should be considering, or advice against the above -

ABS Fault - Renault Scenic 1.8 Ltr 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Has anybody else suffered a fault in the Antilock Braking System on their Renault Scenic? And if so, were you able to obtain redress from Renault ? - 45,000 miles - 52 Reg. but just out of warranty - Paid £1,009 to have ABS Control Unit replaced. Started car on my drive and the brake warning lights stayed on. -
Golf III ABS exchange 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Yesterday I removed the old one and fitted the new one in it's place. I used a pressurised bleed kit and pushed all the air out of the system, but still there the brakes are not fully working as I can feel air in the line somewhere. I re-bled them today and got no more air out. The brakes work, just, but when pumped are good, telling me there is air in the system. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Can't Get Drum Off! 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi Everyone I have the rear binding brake issue on a Corsa that all Vauxhalls seem to suffer from. I have a high pitched squeeling from the left rear and a deep rumble when applying brake pressure. This was supposedly sorted out by my local garage six months ago, but the car is now parked 20 miles away and I do not want to drive it that far in its current condition. -
VW Golf TDI 130 Mk4 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
2 incredibly annoying problems have just turned up separately on my 2002 Golf....... The first one started this morning when I opened the front door to see the car with the brake lights all lit up! Tried the fuses but no difference and then gently pulled the brake pedal (its not loose) and magically the lights went out.... is this a WD40 fix or a sign of something else? The other problem has stopped for today but comes and goes and that is that at times it will tell me that the boot is open (which it's not....) -
VW Golf - Rear Wheel Bearing Question 19 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The mechanic said that this click sound is due to the torque setting of the hub nut, is this a correct assumption? My rear wheels have drum brakes. A quick glance in a haynes manual shows that the taper bearing is held in place by this hub nut plus a lock ring and pin. The torque applied to the hub nut seems quite low considering that the hub nut has to hold the brake drum and wheel in place, is this a correct obversation or have I missed something?
