  • Punto - seat belt not retracting 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Is this the sort of thing that would be covered, or do I face a hefty bill, or should I not be too concerned? Thanks for any advice! Sam
  • Burning oil 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Is it any wonder that Mazda feature so highly in all the recent car reliability surveys ????
  • A4 Tdi cambelt/MOT 26 Jun 2003 (Forum)
    b) Should I have the MOT test before the warranty expires in case the cambelt (or anything else) breaks? Would I be covered? Car has been maintained to manufacturer's schedule plus intermediate (5,000) mile oil and filter changes. Thanks Pat
  • Imports with expired warranties 6 May 2003 (Forum)
Other than that, what other reasons are there to stay away from this car? It is a UK spec car with a full service history.
  • Mitsubishi Brakes 6 May 2003 (Forum)
She's taking it to local main agent. Any other ideas about what might cause it? Is it likely to be covered by the warranty? (website says discs/pads excluded) Car by car breakdown refers to brake recall (as dealer demo, presumably work completed) but to reduced brake efficency. Still stops, but vibrates.
  • Tyres - safe age? 16 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The spare tyre in the boot of my July 1999 Mondeo is unused. I have not checked but I would imagine the tyre is not much older than the car. The fronts are nearing replacement (again). The car covers about 25k miles a year, so the front tyres last about a year. To help cash flow I am considering using the spare and only buying one (matching) replacement front tyre.
  • The Finance Quandry 2 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me if this is a topic thats been covered. I have recently moved to London, and thanks to Ken my car has been sitting relatively unused since July. Consequently, I'd like to get rid altogether, and maybe spend a couple of grand on a glorified shopping trolley.
  • Insurance anomalies 27 Nov 2002 (Forum)
But with excesses of £300 on one and £275 on another. I went to Egg who also do motor insurance. Their price, for the same cover, is £513.55, for both cars and a promise to keep the rate the same for next year. This is with excesses of £100. I think the AA tv advertisement is a load of old toffee. It does make sense to shop around.
  • Reclaiming Contaminated Friction Linings 20 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Before you throw your arms up in horror, the car is 73 years old, covers about 250 miles per year, has a top-speed of 35 mph and was braking pretty well before the discovery anyway. I'm sure I read somewhere that it is possible to boil a shoe in water to remove the oil/grease, and that this wasn't uncommon practice years ago as the leather/felt hub-seal were not completely reliable.
  • Passat brakes - update 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Their mechanic said that, in his opinion, on or more of the discs were warped/excessively corroded. He did a visual inspection of the discs and said that there was signs of, for example, the car being idle for a time as the shape of the pads was evident on the rear discs; it was this that could be causing the 'jerky brakes.' He then went on to say that a VW memo had said that corroded brake discs weren't covered under VW's warranty!!
  • Headlight colours. 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
There's been a few threads regarding new brighter headlights etc, but l haven't seen any mention of the perculiar colours new car headlamps seem to be chucking out. I was under the impression that lamps had to be white to yellow. Now many new cars (and those owned by grill fiddling boy racers) appear to have some tasteful hue added in for good measure.
  • Motor Insurance 21 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Due to insomnia I was watching the 5.30am news this morning. Story was extra premium (up to £30) being paid by motorists to cover losses by uninsured drivers. More importantly was the added grief to those who suffer at the hands of said drivers by not receiving full compensation. Why don't we adopt the system in use in Australia whereby when a car is taxed an extra amount is added to effectively insure the CAR against third party claims regardless of who is driving the vehicle.
  • Carberettered 106 14 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I have as a second car a peugeot 106 1.0 Litre 1991 Petrol engined car. It came to me 6 years ago after being owned from new by an elderly couple, since then it has covered 40,000 miles but has recently had some problems with starting after being left for more than 24 hours without use.
  • I just found hidden damage on a friend's two-year-old car. Is the dealer liable after this long? 19 Nov 2020 (Ask HJ)
My friend asked me to look at the grill on his car the other day. It looked like it suffered damage and was covered up with plastic body treatment. On...
  • Can I drive a Spanish registered car in the UK? 20 Apr 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • How do you advise I proceed with a claim for a no fault accident? 5 Jul 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • Car insurance: help a novice out? 17 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Hi folks, apologies if this has been covered but I've had great advice from here so I'm back with another question.  Purchased a car via PCP from Cinch (I know -- caveat emptor, but friends had a good experience with them). It's arriving Tuesday and I have a mechanic coming to inspect it Wednesday, so I can return it to Cinch if any issues.
  • Mazda 3 - 3x faults on car bought 3 months ago 11 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Wonder if anyone has any views? Bought 3 months ago from main dealer. Car is 3 years old and has extended warranty. Week after purchase engine management light came on - went back and was fixed.  Month later belt went xar not driveable and was towed to dealer and fixed.
  • Land Rover Discovery Sport - Broken electronic handbrake switch 11 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The replacement switch costs around £55 but it appears to be on back order everywhere. My warranty is covering it but currently my car is off the road, as the MOT has just lapsed & I am using a hire car arranged via the warranty. There is no sign of a part being available anytime soon. The part is available on eBay but it won’t cut the mustard as a genuine part.
  • Vauxhall insignia SRI - Head gasket/coolant issue 21 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I have had my car in a local garage for about 3 weeks getting a head gasket replaced, new rocker cover and spark plug and and skim etc. I got my car back yesterday and there is now a trickling/liquid sound coming from the car.
