  • No front number plates 18 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I live in Leicester and I’ve noticed quite a few cars recently (mostly boy racer types) not displaying their front number plates, I assume they do this to make their cars look “cool” and avoid detection of forward facing speed cameras. Additionally, I’ve also seen more cars that have a black tint on their number plates, some so dark it’s difficult to read. Again, I assume they do this to avoid fixed speed camera detection (I believe when the camera flashes, it blurs out the number plate).
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate - Rear-view Camera 29 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I kick myself for not ordering the rear-view camera when I ordered the car 2 years ago.  I have recently fitted a Maplin one with wireless monitor.  Rubbish instructions but that is another story.  The monitor lights up when reverse is engaged then the image comes into view and is very handy BUT after about 10 seconds the picture cuts out.
  • Question about United Kingdom speed cameras? 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have looked in quite some detail at this matter and seem to understand it like this : If a driver is stopped by the police for speeding, the police give the driver a fixed penalty notice which gives them six months to prosecute ? Or if caught by any type of speed camera (fixed or mobile etc) then the authorities must make sure the notice of intended prosecution reaches the drivers attention no longer than 14 working days (is that 3 weeks ? ) after the date of the offence.

  • Old car speed camera flashed 4 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Hi, I have a legal problem, my old car that I sold about a month ago has been caught by a speed camera and is still registered in my name. It looks like the new owner did not register the car. Trouble is, I know this person and am reluctant to pass on their identity unless I really have to. I cannot be sure it was them driving though.
  • Simple speed camera points dodge 1 Feb 2002 (Forum)
As most speed cameras still cannot indentify the driver, only the car, if you get a NIP through the post it will ask you for the drivers details. If you are lucky enough to have a parent/grandparent/brother/sister who has a licence but no longer drives, simply name them as the driver and they will get the points, which will not matter to them.

  • M3 J3-4 ASCs 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Just been along the M3 southbound and came upon average speed cameras on both sides of the carriageway between Js3-4. Can anyone confirm if these cameras are "live", as there are no signs stating that there is a variable speed limit in operation for this section. Or are they left over from the roadworks that finished there last year?

  • Press Release or April Fuel Hoax 13 Apr 2002 (Forum)
In West London cameras reduced fatal crashes by 70 per cent. In April 2000 the Government began a trial in which speeding fines were used to cover the costs of cameras. Now, in Lincolnshire, 45 per cent fewer drivers are exceeding the speed limit and crashes resulting in death and serious injury are down by 90 per cent at camera sites.
  • N/A - M1 variable speed limits/speed cameras Jct 10 - 13 6 Feb 2016 (Forum)
A recent report says that 20,000 drivers have been caught since September 2013 by these cameras. (I'm a bit confused by the report - on PocketGPSWorld.com - which says these cameras are "average speed"; they don't look like that to me. I also assume what it says also applies to the stretch Jct 8 -10, where there are also variable speed limits.)
  • Council operated safety cameras 11 Nov 2008 (Forum)
On my travels I often see council owned safety camera vans poised at the roadside ready to catch those exceeding the speed limit. I used to work for a utility company and one thing immediately jumps out at me. As these vehicles are owned and operated by a utility should they, and indeed are they, subject to compliance with the New Road and Street Works Act or by what ever act that may have replaced it?
