Words fail me.. ( some of you will be pleased to know )

'He said: "I was travelling from my home to a business meeting on a clear A-road and I was unaware of my speed.'

Unaware at 102 mph ?. Isn't that what the little dial with the numbers on in front of you is for ?

I love to see these high up the ladder idiots set a good example.

Reminds me of that Judge in Australia who tried to evade a speeding ticket, he ended up serving time behind bars.

Stupidity never fails to impress me.

Surely this man is just the Managing Director of 'a company'. The fact that his company manufacturs speed cameras is an irrelevance.

If it were Richard Brunstrom caught like that...then 'yes' it is newsworthy...because he is a Chief Constable, constantly goes on about speed and has tied down N.Wales with numerous cameras.

if this chap's company thought it would be more profitable selling toilet door knobs, presumably they'd be doing that and it really would be a non story

Yeah but you've got to admire the irony...

I wonder if he will plead guilty or claim he was merely testing the car and the camera ?

Serco is a FTSE100 service company manging everything from trains to prisons. Speed cameras are a tiny art of their activity.

The personal attacks by XXXXXXXXXXXX.

This is a motoring forum and this is a motoring thread. I have provided the correct link as req.
It is a light hearted post based on irony.

I am somewhere between Mr X and MLC. It is a slightly unpleasant trait of the British to rejoice at the downfall or problems of people who are thought to be important and setting us a good example. Hence, the universal derision at the activities of a large proportion of our MPs, rejoicing that Brainstorms daughter got caught in one of his speed traps, bishops seen in strip clubs, and that sort of thing. I am vaguely pleased that Mr Serco has been caught by one of his own devices!

Mr X ~ I have visions of you facing Mr Riall, with one hand with the fingers held vertically upwards, the thumb of that hand extended and resting on the end of your nose, and the fingers of that hand waving randomly from side-to-side.

Ah, but when Mr X saw the rolled up left trouser leg and was offered a handshake with the thumb turned down he would realise himself and Mr Riall were members of the same Lodge and provide the man with an alibi for the time of the offence that proved someone else was driving.

Who has deleted my two posts, and why?
Speed Camera boss caught - Optimist
When I got my very first proper, grown-up job my boss advised me to ensure that I always kept my own doorstep clean, if you see what I mean.

This bloke has demonstrably failed to do that and that's why people are slyly pleased at him getting nicked.

He should simply have known better. And if he thinks claiming a lack of awareness of his speed will help he must be dreaming. Makes it sound like what used to be called a due care and attention offence, if such an offence still exists.

Thank you DD. I thought so, although it's a bit hard to believe in this particular case. I suppose criticising the swear filter was just asking for it...

Talk about pearls before swine though (don't mean you of course)...
Speed Camera boss caught - the swiss tony
I find it strange how some swear words are allowed, and others are not.
And from memory Lud's swearing was in fact a family name, and not (in that context) a swear word at all......
Anyway, I expect this post to last a very short time, before it is removed, although IMO I have said nothing out of order.....

It is somewhat annoying when the laudable ambition of keeping the site clear of what are deemed be undesirable words is accompanied by advertising immediately adjacent using the word "bu**ered", which originally didn't even contain the 2 '*'s. There should be some consistency even where revenue is concerned, and I'm hoping not to be treated to the comment 'if you don't like it, you know what to do'

Speed Camera boss caught - Lud
What's wrong with 'buttered'? I was censored for something a bit nearer the knuckle than that, although in my opinion not near enough to justify a deletion. But never mind that.

Mr X hasn't been ostracised bb. He has been replied to and argued with quite energetically. And he has been quite abrasive and put himself about. So naturally people have teased him in the attempt to make him reveal himself a bit. If you hand it out you should take it in good part, no?

I don't think anyone wants to know about Mr X's underwear, but it's interesting to know what jalopies people have, surely?

DD.

I did do a Forum search under 'bu**er' and 'swearing' etc. and unsurprisingly all it turned up was a bunch of messages from Nov 08 all of which were "hidden". It may have been discussed before, but it appears that the authorities don't wish anyone to know the outcome. The fact remains that 'bu**er' is still displayed twice in the advert, and "back to motoring discussion' is merely a cover for censorship. Might may well be right in the sense of 'it's our site and we delete what we don't like', but the false justification for that as a moral crusade is transparent to everyone.
Speed Camera boss caught - Dynamic Dave
William,

The bottom line is the forum has a no swearing policy. I, and the other moderators enforce this, along with the other terms and conditions of the forum. We are not responsible for the advertising on this website. Our responsibility is for the forum only. If you wish to take this further, then I suggest you email HJ and discuss it with him.

Now for the final time of asking, back to motoring. Any further discussion on the book advert will be deleted.

Meredydd Hughes, who is head of roads policing for the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), was caught driving at 90mph in a 60mph zone in North Wales while on holiday in May 2006. Great friend of Brunstrom's and definitely on his side.

Ooops!

One thing this teaches all of us is that it's very easy to be hoist by your own petard. Even the righteous amonst us.

Tom Riall deserves the book to be thrown at him.

Mr X. You're a complete bore but it's interesting to note that this thread has not attracted the usual perfectionistas - perhaps they think you've got a point but prefer to go shopping or something.
Speed Camera boss caught - welshlad
just wondering if this story was about joe bloggs who actually works on the production line making the cameras would it have the same draw i dont think so, lets face it mr riall's has probably never even touched a speed camera with his own hands so why the fuss he sped he got caught end of story
Speed Camera boss caught - Lud
why the fuss he sped he got caught end of story

Naturally there is nothing remotely interesting in yet another well-paid suit being clocked over the ton. It is of course a daily event and of no real interest. In Mr Riall's case though we have someone who adopted a high personal profile in the anti-speeding propaganda area, which now turns out to have been a bit hypocritical of him.

The newspapers love hypocrisy because they know all about it. Or rather, they love it in most cases because it distracts attention from their own.

I would criticise Mr X's taste for very carp tabloid right-wing papers - The People, yuck, thought it was dead, did me over once - if the broadsheets - all of them - weren't every bit as disgusting in their more subtle way.
Speed Camera boss caught - FocusDriver
"I would criticise Mr X's taste for very carp tabloid right-wing papers."

...and I defend to the death your right to do so...

But if the "right-wing" media printed lies then it'd be easy to differentiate between sources of news we're going to take seriously. But the Mail et. al. don't end up in court any more regularly than the others which you do say are "every bit as disgusting" :)

Consider the Guardian, which I read. Any motoring article (there is no motoring section naturally) MUST cite the "pernicious evil" of Jeremy Clarkson. It's absolutely visceral and deeply held opinion. That's THEIR slant. And, just in case you think I'm over-egging the pudding, do a search for a Guardian article about cars which doesn't try to belittle Clarkson in its self-satisfied Islington stylee.

Horses, courses, cliche, cliche.

Now, to the TV and to root for the ample Sean Murphy.

The story appears in todays Daily Telegraph.... take it you have put that on a nail in your outside lav as well. Wonders why people who despise newspapers post on a forum connected with a newspaper....??
Speed Camera boss caught - Armitage Shanks {p}
I don't know what the precise connection is, if any, between the DT and this forum, apart from HJ who writes in one and hosts the other. I don't care who runs this site so long as they are legal, it is too useful to give up.

No consistency on sentancing. He got a 6 month ban and £360 fine. A friend (ahem) of mine nicked at 118MPH on M27, 7 day ban (and with a ban no points - whopee) and £100 fine.

£360 fine is nothing and on that money he can hire a driver for 6 months.

Well I thought it was a very amusing. Shame certain people on here like to try and put people down because they don't like there political persuasion. Looks like Guardian readers have a superiority complex. Just as well they don't work in my industry as they would certainly get their noses put out of joint. Honestly who gives a monkeys what paper youy read.
