  • Mercedes C-Class 2012 year AMG Sport C 180 - Battery Life 24 Jun 2015 (Forum)
My car is now 3 months out of 3 year warranty and have just had to have a second new battery (the first one after 18 months on warranty).  Mercedes refused any contribution although my dealer did give 10% on battery price.  18 month battery life seems outragously short to me.  Anybody have similar experience?

My 2006 Touareg is suffering unexplained battery drain after being left a couple of days without use. The battery was replaced when tis was first a problem some 18 months ago but the problem persisted.

  • Charging car battery from a car 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Maybe this really belongs in Technical Matters but I'm sure there will be plenty here who know the answer. A friend (really not me) has a flat car battery which he needs to charge. This is used for an electric mower. He's wondering whether there's a quicker method of charging this than connecting it to a mains-powered charger. He's thinking in terms of using jump leads to connect it to the battery in his car.

  • Battery Chargers 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Having just come out of hospital after 4 weeks I tried to start the car, battery flat.Nice man from RAC started it for me.I gave it a stationary run at variable revs for about 45mins,as I cannot drive the car due to shoulder op for a few weeks I have done this every other day now three times,so battery should be ok now.I have one of the older type battery chargers i.e.low & high charge its even has 6&12 volt option, could I still use old chargers on 5yr old car with to-days modern technology?
  • Battery Low? 10 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Could this be that the battery is low and not giving the glow plugs enough juice to heat up to optimum temperature? Mike
  • Omega battery/alternator warning light 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My battery/alternator red warning stays on when driving, and also has the effect of randomly causing other engine abs airbag warning lights to flick on and off. I tested voltage at battery and was around 12 volts dropping to approximately 10 under load.
  • Battery Drain 3 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Repeated the charge/test routine. The dropping off slowed down but it was still apparent. Battery isn't too old. All cells are OK with DI water. Fitted back to the car and checked the drain in series with the earth terminal (to earth strap). Showing 130 mA. Is that a problem?? Is the battery "duff"?
  • Fiat Uno (1992) battery draining 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi all. A friends 1992 (1.0L) is continually draining the battery. I haven't had a chance to inspect it closely, but there isn't anything obvious like a light on. She has fitted a few new batteries in a short space of time. I took out the battery a week ago,let it fully charge.
  • Ford Fiesta MK2 - Can I charge my car battery with a smaller charger 10 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It's charged by a smallish Yuasa charger, model YCPX4A12, output 14.7V - 4A Can I give my depleted car battery (GBA3085 - EN 380, A/hr 45, R/C 68) a bit of a charge using the small yuasa charger? Or is it only safe to charge car batteries with a chunky car battery charger, the likes of which cost £30 to £40?
  • Audi A3 - Battery trickle charge 7 Nov 2019 (Forum)
As the car is not being used that often, once or twice a week for short journeys, I trickle charge the battery at 1.5amps.  I do not disconnect the battery but I have noticed that the car's clock is not showing the correct time so it must have stopped during the charge.Do you think I have done any damage?
  • Honda Jazz 2008 EX - Changing battery 25 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I am confused.  I have rung a couple of places for battery prices and some tell me that I will need to set up a 'trickle charge' to the leads as I change the battery as it will mess with the ECU, radio and clock settings - the clock and the radio I am fine with the ECU ???
  • Subaru Justy - Batteries 25 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I keep it in a garage where I have a holiday apartment. There is no electricity in the garage so I take the battery off and put it on a trickle charger in my apartment. I want to buy a new car but I am worried that if I take the battery off for a few months while I I charge it, will I have a problem with the car computor?
  • Toyota Yaris - Yaris master key battery going 4 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hi   The master key battery for my Yaris is going, so I am having problems getting it to respond.   I have a spare key which also opens and locks the vehicle.     Can I use this spare key indefinitely, or do I have to have the battery in the master replaced within a certain amount of time?
  • Ford Focus - diesel engine, battery not charging 20 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The other day the battery light came on when I was driving a Focus diesel.  I drove it to a garage and sorted it out. The question occurred to me later - how far could I have driven it? Once you've started a diesel you don't need a battery to supply a spark, do you?

  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - Another battery question 29 Oct 2009 (Forum)
How long does it take for a good (?) battery to go flat - I didn't use my 06 Nissan X Trail (3+ years old) for just under a month, and while the battery wasn't quite flat it wouldn't turn the engine over - nothing left on - is this normal - or do I have a problem?
  • Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 04 2.2 Getting the battery out 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Pal of mine is scratching his head over what seems to be a very simple problem. He has disconnected the battery leads and can't see any obvious clamping mechanism but the battery won't lift out of its housing. It seems to be a tight fit in the housing but something also appears to be holding it in place. Is he missing something?
