  • Suzuki Ignis Sport recall 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have just received a safety recall for my Ignis Sport re the inner drive shaft circlip, I'm having the car seen to by a Suzuki dealer in 5 days. The letter says that 'the left hand drive shaft may disconnect from the transmission due to insufficient holding force of the inner drive shaft joint circlip'.

  • Returning to Drive Legally 17 Feb 2004 (Forum)
His current car has been off the road all year tax has gone, mot has gone. How does he legally get the car back on the road when he needs to drive to the mot station without road tax (can't get without mot), he will obviously insure it but will this be void in the case of a stop or an accident without a valid mot. Is the only legal route to have uplifted to the mot station or is it ok to make an appointment and drive there.

Eg Leave home drive towards M25 choose destination, somewhere along the entry ramp the car then self drives itself towards its destination, when coming to the required exit ramp the car gradually gives control back.
  • Insurance - why bother? 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Surely some system can be devised to stop people taking this risk and hiking up our premiums, I'm paying roughly the same now as what I was when I first started driving, despite being older with full no claims driving a lower ins group car!
  • WRX test drive 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Just back from a test drive of a new WRX. It had the prodrive kit which takes it to about 250bhp (a cheeky extra £1800 too). Must admit I was expecting it to feel quick but it just didn't. I suppose it's cos it grips so well there is no drama at all.
  • UK Driving Licence Check Code 10 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Since the introduction of the new paperless UK driving licence information system, has anybody been asked for the "check code" when renting a car abroad? I have rented cars in Europe and the US on numerous occasions and have only been asked for my plastic photocard, never the code (or a printout of the information I always bring with me.)

My alternator drive belt tensioner has sheared off 3 times in 3 weeks. My garage say that they have tried the vw technical dept. who say that this is not a recognised problem with these cars and are not able to offer a solution.
  • Road Wars - A 'No Insurance' question. 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
This week they stopped a guy in a Saab with no insurance, he said it was a mistake and he had another car with insurance that allowed him to drive any car Oh no said the cop, it only allows you to drive if the car your driving also has insurance. Does that make scence? He got £200 fine and 6 points

  • NIP - who was driving? (Continued) 15 May 2007 (Forum)
cheddar, We all know that Mrs cheddar's car was speeding. We all know it was either Mrs cheddar or yourself driving at the time. What's hers is yours and vice versa. Just get her to NOMINATE a driver so that the powers that be can get it over and done with and get on with the next case. It's only a speeding offence, not murder. -- L\'escargot.
  • New Transit, FWD or RWD 25 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I saw from an advert in the paper today that the new Transit is available in Front Wheel Drive or Rear Wheel Drive. I have never heard of a vehicle being offered with these alternatives, has there been any others? Is this an example of how the Transit really is just a chassis that you can build whatever you want to onto in the way of engine, drive and bodystyle?
  • What car did you learn to drive in? 3 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Prompted by the 2CV thread, wondered what car you learnt to drive in? My instructor's car was a red Datsun 100A (don't see many of those now). I passed in 1976 - 1st time of course! Was n't allowed to practice in Dad's car (1976 Alfasud) so the Datsun was my only learner vehicle.
  • Really that bad? Maestro 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
'Red Robbo' build quality. Antediluvian 'A' Series 1.3 litre engine. 1.3s are surprisingly horrible to drive - worse than you would ever have imagined. Are you being a bit harsh HJ? I learnt to drive in a Maestro, it was more "fun" to drive than the Pug 405 that replaced it.
  • Insurance for test driving cars 13 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying a used car & wondered about the insurance i would need for test driving. If i were selling a car for a reasonable amount, i would want the person to be fully comp. So, my insurance company weren't too competitive about insuring me fully comp for any car. Any other ways round this?
  • Other drivers 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)
There are only two kinds of drivers on the road that you see: the morons, who drive slower than me; and the maniacs, who drive faster than me. Doesn't everyone operate on this principal? ;^} You dont get to see the third kind, those sensible intelligent paragons of driving virtue go at the same speed as you, as you neither overtake them nor are overtaken by them ;-) ~R
