VW Polo 1.9sdi 54 reg - Alternator drive belt tensioner - sparky1
My alternator drive belt tensioner has sheared off 3 times in 3 weeks. My garage say that they have tried the vw technical dept. who say that this is not a recognised problem with these cars and are not able to offer a solution. I would be grateful for any help.

Replace the alternator drive pulley which contains a one-way clutch. These seize, causing drive oscillations which break the tensioners.
It is a very well known problem - VAG porkies again?
