SEAT Cordoba (1994 - 2003) - Vario 98 1.9TDi central locking leak 3 Apr 2008 (Forum)
When one locks the doors, they all still lock, but the vacuum pump continues to run for about half a minute, after which point the doors will not unlock automatically. It was more of an inconvenience when I couldn't easily open the fuel filler cap despite following the instructions in the manual! I have found the source of the leak to be the locking mechanism for the fuel filler cap; fiddling with the mechanism gets the locking working normally. -
Vauxhall Nova (1983 - 1993) - 1984 1.2 - pierburg 1b fault - any ideas? 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Then, when you're up to say 60-70, and take your foot off the throttle and put it back on, there's a big flat spotty sort of jerk rather than smooth take-up. Sometimes going up a hill it's difficult to keep the car going at even 60mph. Fuel economy is unaffected, it's still 45-ish to the gallon regardless. The problem comes and goes. Usually it lasts for a couple of hundred miles before going again. I wonder if it's a bit of dirt floating about inside the carb or maybe that pump diaphragm, though that usually affects the fuel consumption as well. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 95 1.4 petrol - Not Starting... 19 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Having towed the car back home i was able to look at it today, first i removed the cambelt covers and found that the cambelt had shed quite a few teeth off , so i fit a new belt thinking this would sort the problem, having put the belt on and lined all the timing marks tried starting the car, no joy infact the car spins over really fast like it has little compression, i removed the spark plugs no petrol on them at all, so then i removed the fuel supply pipe and get my lad to turn the engine over whilst i hold the pipe in a jar, just to make sure the fuel pumps working ok, which it is. So now lm at a loss as to why no petrol is getting into the engine, is there an electrical cut off valve on the carb? -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 1993 2.0E - Unusual problem, loosing power. 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
My first thing to think of was the cat as it has started rattling really bad lately and could have got blocked up intermittintly or some thing electrical (plugs leads?) or the fuel (qtr tank) that was in tank was dodgy. I put 30 quid of fresh fuel in and it seems ok now after a 100 mile round trip today, however it still has a slight bit of hesitation espically under load, but iss still more than driveable. -
SEAT Altea (2004 - ) - HGV Slipstreaming 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Well today east of Leeds on those deserted sections of the M62, M18, M180 and the A15 to a lesser extent I had a go. 220 miles in an Altea 2.0 Tdi DSG (auto), fuel computer calculated 60.8 mpg average. It's a journey I've done may times and rarely bettered 50mpg, I did not pootle behind the 55mph bunch but selected European registered trucks who seemed to travel at 60-65. -
Tyre experiment over.. 27 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The tread depths a lot deeper on these tyres too. I suppose if your getting upwards of 25,000 on tyres of the `fuel saver` type it doesnt matter. But again, the wear is around only 1/3 of the eco tyres so.............. But if your other half drives as though its a combat mission.. :) Regards -
Ducato 2.5TDi, fuel stop solenoid puzzle 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
This is not entirely unconnected with my recent query as to the cutting out problem; however best to draw a veil over the *connection*, suffice to say... -
The new Clio has broken down! 2 Jul 2007 (Forum)
famous Renault electricals?) ON Arrival at scene of crime: All electrics seem ok, no strange bleeps, has the low fuel light on but says "35 miles to empty". So up with the bonnet, whip off the black engine cover. Look round, find rubber bulb on extreme left with see through plastic tubing on one side. Pump bulb a few times, and suddenly a feint froth appears once. -
mondeo 1.8td acceleration probs help!! 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
what i mean is that the turbo doesnt seem to be cutting in at its full petential, you can feel it cut in at around 2200-2600 or something like that but it has no effect on the speed. its that slow i dont risc overtaking or pulling out . i have know idea what it could be, i have changed the glow plugs, air filter, fuel filters. i cant see know obvious leaks, there is no spillages on my drive , i cant smell fuel when driving or when its idling. thats the first problem secondly............... on the same car, my air bag light came on it started to flash at me , i was told to change the things beside the seats, the things the the seat belts plug into , apparantly the hold a charge of somesort and the old ones may have become discharged, so i changed them and the lights still flashing at me! -
Lucky Caracas 25 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Story in today's Telegraph says that Hizonner Ken Livingstone is doing some kind of deal with the Venezuelan government for cheap fuel for TFL. Apparently in exchange for this cheap fuel the London Mayor's Ofrfice is to open a branch in Caracas, staffed by lucky Livingstonist bureaucrats on secondment. Their function will be to advise Caracas on how to deal with its traffic congestion problems. -
Nissan Primera 2.18 Diesel 04 12 Oct 2006 (Forum)
If clutch was disengaged the revs would return. Reported this to dealer who had car in for inspection and they recalibrated fuel pump. Fault not rectified. The dealer has also re-programmed the engine management system. On one journey the fault occurred and an engine symbol was showing on dash with instruction "there may have been a malfuntion in the engine management system. -

TDCi judder around 2200-2700rpm 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've tried cleaning the MAF with Isopropanol, which didn't cure it, but the hesitation feels almost like a MAF fault, as if it is telling the ECU that there is more air getting in than actually is and less fuel is consequently injected. Anyone got any suggestions for other potential causes? It's a 2002 Volvo S40 with a Renault DCi (surprise surprise) engine. -
VW Passat S TDi PD (130) Auto 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My previous Passat was the S TDi (115) Automatic (W reg) and this had done nearly 90,000 miles and was returning 360 - 400 miles to a tank of fuel - but had no computer for working out the MPG only the "trip" for the mileage - which makes me think ?? Does any one else have this same spec car by any chance ?? What do you get ?? Not sure if true or not, but I have been told the economy increases as the mileage does ? -
Legacy/Forester readers mpg 27 May 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me accurately what mpg they have been getting - i.e. from brimming the tank, and logging mileage and volume of fuel filled with. a local mechanic said his 2.5auto struggled to get even 25mpg on a long run, and range with the fuel tank was rubbish as tank is really too small for these vehicles with their poor mpg. -
Switching to Petrol from Diesel 1 May 2006 (Forum)
My father had a MKI mondeo with a 1.8 petrol and that was fantastic to drive compared to all the diesels I've driven. I'm of the belief that I'm not going to be hit too much harder in the pocket when totting up fuel/maintenance costs at the end of the year, and would like to hear that I'm probably right, providing I find a car in good nick, but will also be grateful to hear from anyone who begs to differ! Cheers -

The "French" fight back. 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Sierra 2 2 broken drive belts, 1 broken clutch cable, 1 broken brake vacuum pump. Sierra 3 1 faulty fuel gauge, causing me to run out of fuel. I only had this vehicle for about 2 months. I then moved to a different department, didn?t need a company car, and started buying my own(used) vehicles. I started with a BX16TRS, then a BX19GTI, then a BX19 16v. -
Weird A4 problems today... any ideas? 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Topped it up again, and a few miles later notice that the speedo has stopped working, as has the mileometer, and then the fuel gauge starts floating up and down. The car has an on-board comp, and the mileage range was going from 50 up to 200 and down again in the space of a few metres, obviously due to the fuel gauge's antics. -
