  • Snake oil that seems to work! V Power + Nitro 5 May 2017 (Forum)
A regular route over a bridge a mile long with a 50mph limit, before when going up the incline if the speed droped below 49mph the car changed down to 5th, Now the speed needs to drop to 45mph before it changes down. Cant think of any other reason or explanation for this other than fuel. Fuel ecomomy is improving but thats as likley to be temperatures rising so cant really say. Maybe I've not been waisting my money , I will keep going with it anyway.
  • 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI Diesel, 30,000 miles - 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI "pulling"/"jerking" 4 May 2017 (Forum)
However, I noticed the occasional "jerk" or "tug", almost as if the car wasn't putting quite enough fuel into the engine. This disappeared as soon as I put my foot down a little and everything was normal. But it would reproduce itself when coasting at around 70mph in fifth gear. Revs over 1500. I've noticed this at slower speeds in 4th, but far less.
  • Nissan xtrail 2003 diesel 2.2 - Nissan X trail Intermittant fault! Can anyone help 12 Aug 2016 (Forum)
So far it has been serviced, filters sorted, fuel regulator changed, air flow meter changed. It did show up once as a fault with the airflow sensor but whenever i took to the garage it would stop doing it and and drive fine. frustrating! the guy at the garage said could be the injection pump possibly?
  • Audi A3 2002 1.6 petrol misfire ? 24 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Also the coil (which is used for 2 cylinders) has been inverted, the fault stayed on cylinder 2. It’s not the fueling as all petrol injectors all spray the same. Also the problem does not change when switching between petrol and LPG fuel. It doesn’t appear to be the engine either. A compression test gives the same pressure on all cylinders.
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.8 auto - voyager starting problem 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I have changed the battery to a fancy gel one, two starter motors, crank and cam shaft sensors, new fuel filter and primer part on top. ( when this was changed it was perfect for a week, then all of a sudden back to normal.) since then priming the fuel guaranteed a start. Now nothing works it just cranks and cranks.
  • Mondeo 2003 TDCI, 2,0, 96kw - Mondeo TDCI keeps on cutting out 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I must add that in March (7,000 kilometres ago), I did a full regeneration of injectors and a pump, so I would not suspect that the problem is there... The car has a new fuel filter. I am betting on cam/crank sensors, or fuel pressure sensor on the CR. When connected to a computer, none of code errors show up. Any ideas what should be repaired? Really sorry if I repeat the topic.

  • Ford Mondeo - Ford mondeo 2001 tddi cuts out after 8 seconds 19 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi guys, hope this is in the right place. I've got a mondeo 2001 tddi - Long story short - I broke down, the car cut out, no fuel, lift pump wasn't running. Cut the wires, Put 12v directly to the lift pump and got it going, bled the pipes and car started fine. Drove it for an hour or so, stopping and starting all the while running the lift pump from the cigarette lighter, (although it seemed to run fine without the pump running).
  • Ford Mondeo Mk1 1994 Petrol 1.8 - Ford Mondeo Mk1 Problem Starting 20 May 2014 (Forum)
The fuel pump runs for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on, and the immobiliser light goes out after 6 seconds. I understand this has an Idle Speed Control Valve and an Idle-increase Solenoid Valve.
  • Saab 93 TiD 2002 2.2 - EGR Cleaner spray. Snake Oil? 28 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Elbow and EGR I can remove and clean, but the intake manifold is a step too far for me due to the need to remove the fuel pipes. This spray - anyone tried it? Many thanks. Any advice much appreciated. Braniff7
  • ford fiesta econetic 1.6 diesel - taking ford dealer to court over low mpg 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
It has been in for inspection under warranty twice and as there are no fault codes reported, the dealer and Ford will do nothing about it. I reckon I am now paying around £200+ a year more on fuel for this car than I would, have on my previous models. I am so incensed by this and the lack of response from the deaer (and Ford) that I am plannng to take the dealer to small claims court to claim back these extra costs.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - mk4 golf tdi arl won't start 12 Feb 2014 (Forum)
evening, my brother in laws 53 plate golf tdi arl engine died on him last night and won't restart. he said it just cut out and wouldn't go again. ive had it on vagcom and no fault codes are showing, the car will fire and run briefly if i spray carb cleaner down the air intake. you can hear the lift pump prime when you turn the ignition on and i can draw fuel all the way round the system to the thermo switch at the fuel filter using a hand vacuum pump im now at a loss as to what to check next. ive removed the rocker cover, the camshaft looks in good condition, i was hoping to be able to examine the output from the cam mounted tandem pump but this doesn't seem possible, is there a way to test the tandem pump?
  • Nissan Primera P12 - Nissan Primera P12 1.8 (2003) cold start dilemma 18 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Reading from the internet, it seems as if a whole range of factors could cause this issue: starter or alternator fault, vacuum leak, faulty fuel return regulator or fuel pump check valve, bad earthing on these models, cold start sensor, etc, but I need someone who knows what they're doing to investigate these or what the fault may be. I'm wondering if anyone on here knows a reliable mechanic in or around Nottingham who'll be able to have a look and say what the issue actually is so that I can have it fixed, please?
  • New Car - Long Range, Decent Drive & low costs 4 Sep 2013 (Forum)
We frequently (at least once a week) make a round trip of 600 miles and we want a car which can easily do 600 miles on a single tank of fuel. We both want somethings thats not completely horrible to drive but we are not expecting R32 type of fun. Decent acceleration and ability to cruise at reasonably high speed is essential. Something about VW Golf size is ideal and we need 4 doors as we have to carry aged relatives.
  • vauxhall zafira 2.0 petrol - car is costing us 30 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Weh ave this car mentioned above and its a 2006, it started giving us problem approximately a year after we bought it from arnold clark though its a used one, the problem started with the wheel shaking when my partner drives it at any speed, and then there is this sliding or thunder lighteing coming up on the dashboard, radio keeps going on and off could be for a day or for a few hours, fan is fluctuating as well, its on and off for some few minutes, we don't seem to understand what the problem is and the amount of fuel it consumes is extrememly high in a week we fuel up to £100.00 which i feel its too much, we have been to arnold clark and at that time we were charges for over £750 for the thunder light coming up in the dashboard but this tends to still be there.
  • Golf 1.4 TSI [dsg] - Golf 1.4 TSI engine issues 27 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Seems to be me to be an issue with the car from design. Plus not sure if the VW dealership diagnosed it correctly whern they replaced the throttle and fuel pump.  Do i just accept i am unlucky with the engines......happens to be the worse car ever...tonnes of other stuff gone wrong with it.
  • Lexus 200D versus Lexus CT200h - Is it worth buying a hybrid 11 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I am thinking of changing the Lexus for a CT200h but I'm not sure that this will give me any fuel savings.  Our journey split is, roughly, as follows:- 0-5 mile       None 5-10 miles   12 journeys pa x 7.5 miles average = 90 miles 10-15 miles  24 x 12.5 = 300 miles 15-25 miles  48 x 20 = 960 miles 25-50 miles  48 x 37.5 = 1800 miles 50-100 miles 24 x 75 = 1800 miles 100-200 miles 18 x 150 = 2700 miles 200-300 miles 8 x 250 = 2000 miles Total 9650 mile pa I think that, because most of the journeys we do with this car are generally quite long, then I wont get the same fuel saving that I would with short journeys in an urban area.
  • Ford fiesta W reg - Fiesta won't restart after running. 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The next time I try to start it it turns over a little bit less.  The engine is firing - my gut instint is that there is no fuel getting to the engine, that is what it sounds like to me. If I leave the car for some time (normally 1 hour+) it restarts perfectly. Things that have been tried: 1. Fuel relay - not sure what this is, but it was changed!
  • Fiat Panda Multijet 2006 - Suitable fault code reader 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On the 60's and 70's vehicles I was brought up on, the most complex electronic component was an SU fuel pump.  But the need for fuel economy and the fact that all the old cars are worn out has forced us to buy a modern one.  I realise that the cheaper a OBD reader is, the less it can do, but can I get something that will identify why an engine fault light has come on so I can at least have an idea of which sensor is sending the ecu an unexpected reading?
  • Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9 DT - Advice please!! 20 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So I own a Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9 DT 52Reg with 77000 on the clock, and a while ago started having this problem...the van surges as if there is a block in fuel, revs get up to 3500 in each gear but wont go any further. When pulling away in 1st gear it struggles for a while until the engines sort of ''kicks in''. Took it to the mechanic, had it tuned up and serviced, redex fuel treatment in diesel done, also the EGR valve was replaced as apparently was full of carbon.
