Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9 DT - Advice please!! - DaveLands

Hi everyone

First let me say that I am not in any way shape or form mechanical orientated and I'm looking for advice on my problem as maybe the mechanic is taking advantage of my ignorance.

So I own a Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9 DT 52Reg with 77000 on the clock, and a while ago started having this problem...the van surges as if there is a block in fuel, revs get up to 3500 in each gear but wont go any further. When pulling away in 1st gear it struggles for a while until the engines sort of ''kicks in''.

Took it to the mechanic, had it tuned up and serviced, redex fuel treatment in diesel done, also the EGR valve was replaced as apparently was full of carbon.

Mechanic says that 2 of the glow plugs are not working but there is nothing that can be done about that because if he tried to fix them it could do even more damage??

Please someone out there give me some advice, as I am seriously starting to doubt this guy but I don't really know any trustworthy mechanics in my area and the local Vauxhall garage has gone bust. I just don't want to go into a garage and get ripped off if they realize I don't understand nothing about mechanics.

Many thanks.

These vans suffer with wiring loom issues in the engine bay big time.

Find someone with experince on vivaros or the renault equivelent.

The Mechanic obviously isnt confident in removing the glow plugs so find someone that is. This wont cure the power issue but may help with cold starting.

Suggest you find a diesel specialist garage, e.g: a Bosch-certified garage, as they might have knowledge of model-specific issues.
