  • Driver Age Limits 22 May 2007 (Forum)
Is this because they have been programmed by nature to survive in order to protect the survival of the human race, or because their lives being so much easier than men`s that they are more relaxed? But younger women drive much too close to the car in front. Omegalen
  • Xenons 2 May 2007 (Forum)
To allow you to be a poser by thinking you have 'improved visibility' and 'safety' when in fact you are just dazzling oncoming drivers (even with dynamic range adjustment thingy) with a very slight chance they will actually crash into you. B. To allow you to drive extra close to the car in front so that the stray light from your lights dazzles them, which gives your ego a boost and the feeling of extra street kudos. C. To allow you to see further ahead when driving along a dark road with no street lights, unseen 'dangers', and other obstacles at 150+MPH.
  • Recommend car for learners 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
These are the criteria I am hoping to fulfil: * Suitable for 2 teenage daughters to learn to drive in, this will not be their car, but the family second car. * Cheap insurance and running costs * Reliable * Some street cred ? daughter no2 refuses to drive the primera * Preferably 5 doors, but will consider 3 * X reg onwards * Budget around £3000 I am hoping that the girls will pass their tests this summer as no1 is already at uni and no2 goes in Sept.
  • Reasonable parking sensors 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
She even leaves extra early for work so she can guarantee an empty car park to drive into! Anybody have any thoughts/experiences of them? Thanks
  • AWD Estate Car 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I originally suggested the Audi Quattro range but they were not keen. Am I missing anything out or does anyone have any suggestions? Would a rear wheel drive car with a decent traction control system do the trick? Current vehicles are quite old and therefore probably not up to date in this sense. Thanks
  • It's a mystery! (206CC Brake reserv.) 21 Mar 2007 (Forum)
They claim they've never seen this happen on a 206 before. (Wasn't too expensive to repair c. £40) The Servo was replaced a month ago, and she has been driving over rough ground recently. Question is: Could this be due to some mishandling when servo was replaced OR can driving over rough ground do this (seems unlikely) and has anyone had reservior split on their car and what caused it?
  • Manchester to Leeds early morning? 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I could take the 7:25 train from Manchester Piccadilly to Leeds and take a taxi from home to the station and from the station to Elland Road and obviously the reverse route on the way home (or drive to station and park all day). The cost is likely to be £35 for train and say £30 on taxis, or..... I could drive...... Whats the traffic like on the M62 near to Leeds at about 8am. If in light traffic, the journey should take about one hour, how long will it take if I leave north Manchester at about 7:15am?
  • Do you have to carry Driving Licence? 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I got pulled up in Tottenham the other day for no insurance. Before you all get out of your prams, I have got insurance, but the police computer say no....
  • Odd car break down (Fiesta 1.1) 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I managed to push it home, removed the oil cap and it started first time. Its started every time since but I haven't dared to drive it. The oil is very sludgy still so I am guessing this is connected. I am getting it compression tested tomorrow to see what it comes up with. Either way I am getting sick of this car now and I think I will just give up on driving and go back to walking/push bike and buses.
  • First car? 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I'm about to start looking for my very first car and hope to get something for around £8000. I really want 5 doors and A/C, but nothing else specifically. I will be driving approx 15 miles to work through quite heavy traffic, but also want something that i feel safe in when driving on the motorway. Off the top of my head I quite like the Colt, Corsa and Picanto- i know the last one's quite small but seems good value for money.
  • Mondeo trip computer memory? 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Mondeo TDCi Ghia from 2005 (54 reg) and the trip computer seems to have some memory. Is this normal? Basically if I drive for a couple of thousand miles on a motorway at about 70mph it eventually gets upto reporting about 54mpg from 47 or so. Same driving style the whole time so can't see how it changes from 47 to 54.
  • HJ's insurance advice 10 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Does that mean that whenever a car is stopped in a police check and found to have say a faulty light or the wrong kind of child seat,, the driver is also prosecuted for driving without insurance? Insurance to drive a vehicle, and insurance cover for that vehicle, are different things surely?
  • laguna causing grief. 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The hotter the engine the more it turns over before firing, to a point that yesterday it wouldln't start after i stopped. after twenty minutes it went again. i hadn't noticed any problems while driving along, apart from one accasion at the weekend, when driving along the engine suddenly cut out, i pulled over and it started straight away. i am taking it to my mechanic on thursday but any ideas what it could be would be welcomed.
  • Yet another insurance question 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Could I continue to drive on his insurance until the policy is due for renewal? I guess that I could, but, if I had to make a claim, I could be in trouble for not informing the insurance company of his death and they would refuse to pay out on these grounds.
  • At a loss for words 29 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Drove 600 odd miles today from Scotland down to England and saw some "fascinating" driving, including swerving in and out of traffic at high speeds as in computer games and tailgating like no tomorrow. Something that was new to me was the use by some drivers of the hard shoulder in traffic jams.
  • 05 fiesta abs light 26 Jul 2006 (Forum)
hi, the abs light comes on occasionally, not under any specific conditions, just when it feels like it, it may stay on for a couple of mins or an hour. the local dealer put it on his diagnostic equipment and it's booked in. he said he could be just a dirty sensor, dust etc. i need the car not to show any lights for a drive tomorrow (i'm a driving instructor) is there anything i can do in the short term, either mechanically or is it possible to get behind the dash and pull the bulb? the pads and disks were changed about 6 weeks ago but the problem has only just started. any advice today would be greatly appreciated. thanx
  • 05 Octavia what mods 2 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi folks, While most of the UK was watching the Game today I was sitting haggling to buy a Skoda 1.9 TDI elegence. Needless to say I am now the owner of this nearly new vehicle, on the test drive I couldnt figure out how to work the vehicles mpg computer. Anyway the question now is what technical mods would be worth while if any, for fuel/drive performance, and has anybody had any known problems with theirs.
  • Tailgated-Whose fault is this? 1 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Saw someone yesterday who was driving yesterday at 60ph(with her 18 year daughter) on an A road,in the middle lane when she was apparently aggressively tailgated by a young chappie driving a BMW. After touching the brakepedals lightly a few times to shake him off, slammed the brakes for a second longer causing the car to crash into the back of her Vectra!!!!
  • Remember this is a motoring forum? 23 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I do have issues with some cars but i'm very reluctant to critisize them as I still get enourmous pleasure driving them and sometimes their faults are part of the charm. Gilles Villenueve once said to Enzo Ferrari after a test in a F1 car "the cars rubbish.. absolutly terrible but i'll drive it all day and love every minute of it" That's why Gilles was Enzo's favourite F1 driver out of all of the Ferrari drivers Can't we have the same view in here?
