Car hire troubles 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
After driving about 100k it started to lose power and play up, MIL comes on - obviously a fault with the injection system. I managed to limp on another 100km to my destination and called for Renault Assistance. RA technician turns up and pronounces it a major failure and I need another car. It's Saturday and the rental co can't find me a car. Next day is Sunday - everything closed - so they tell me to call back Monday am. -
2004 Megane 1.5 dCi 100 24 Jun 2006 (Forum)
You could fit another passenger in there... 9. Overall fit and finish is good, a huge improvement on previous Renaults. 10. Awesome brakes. 11. CD player and leather steering wheel. 12. Refined at motorway speed - useful in France. Things I don't like: 1. Ride a bit fidgety on those fat 17'' wheels. 2. Auto wipers not sensitive enough in drizzle (apparently fixed on the 2006 model) 3. -
Pug 406 - Exactly how bad are they? 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi Folks, Looking to retire (as far as the missed on L plates) my current N/99 Renault Clio 1.9D RL, after sterling service from 25k to 115k miles (work done in 5 years: new radiator (another needed now though, which is quite sad), wheel bearings, exhaust, plus new discs and pads on the front when the wheel came off on the M25, but that's a different story...). -
Bien sur, ...ça n'est pas la vie en rose 29 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Not for him a trustworthy demure and submissive Japanese ready to cater to his every whim at 2/3 the price, but rather a moody unpredictable femme of a car whose seductive overtones belied a basic inability to perform. There is no Renault dealership in the Philippines. The car, apart from having a feeble Euro a/c, was not tropicalised, i.e. made for the climate and road conditions we encounter. These, combined with the mounting DHL bills for parts from La France and the time spent in la garage, meant that this example of fine Gallic engineering, soon became a general pain in the derriére. -
Cost effetive Ins for van Please Help 31 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Have anyone out here ever tried to insure a Transit sized van on a private motor policy? My efforts to insure my Renault Trafic Van have finally paid off with a £360 TPFT premium inclusive on an introductory discound on the strength of my NCB on the main car. I was hoping for a cheaper quote. I use the van to renovate my own house (We're moving to a place that needs a lot of work. -

Kia Sportage Vs Skoda Karoq (and others) 6 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Awkward transitions between engines and too happy to kickdown. Ride was a bit bumpy. Renault Captur PHEV - Good looks and a refreshing interior. Surprisingly good to drive and the gearbox worked much better than the Leon. Very small boot. Jeep Renegade PHEV - Had a lot more grunt than the Leon or Captur. -
Dacia Duster 1.5 diesel 4x4 - New Dacia Duster 1.5 diesel 4x4 -first impressions 1 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Then reset the TPMS on the dashboard- dead easy as it's the non-sender type, another bonus. The rest of it. Sweet little 8 valve Renault 1.5 diesel starts instantly, very quiet and pulls well. Gears a bit notchy in fifth and sixth but will loosen up I guess. Good feel from the clutch. Brakes with a reassuring bite. -
all makes - Antifreeze- Blue vs Orange/Red 8 Oct 2021 (Forum)
BS 6580 is now a minimum quality standard for antifreeze / coolant that has been largely replaced by vehicle specific grades such as: Audi TL774-D, Ford WSS-M97B44-D, ISUZU, Renault D, Jaguar WSS-M97B44-D, MB 325.3, SAAB 6901 599, Seat TL774-D, Skoda 61-0-0257, Vauxhall QL 130100 and Volkswagen TL774-D. Most cars since 2,000 have specified Organic Acid Technology (OAT) based Antifreeze / coolant, commonly red in colour and with a 5 year life. -
Peugeot 2008 1.2 PureTech 130 EAT6 Allure Premium - Progress report 25 May 2021 (Forum)
Pathetic single tone horn, unadjustable intermittent wiper speed (why didn’t the infinitely variable rheostat I remember on early Renaults never catch on?). Fancy alloys – a designer’s dream, a pain to clean. And that’s about it, apart from new car depreciation pain. (It cost £17K). Still, if it lasts as long as the Focus (and it certainly won’t be doing as many miles) that’ll be less than £1000 per annum (or under £90 pcm for those thinking in PCP mode)…and I might be a nonagenarian. -
BMW X5 3.0i year 2000 - BMW X5 cylinder head/engine replace. Advice please 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Car now outside my house having been dropped off by tow truck. My local mechanic (old school VW/Renault man - knows his stuff and very helpful) said likely that head warped/cracked as a minimum (head gasket has gone and engine still turns over apparently but no power anymore) and that not advisable to resurface as tolerances with overhead cams too problematic and that I should either look for a new or tested s/h head and try and fit myself (car not worth a great deal and I have built kit cars many years ago) or much better still, get a replacement engine...Still don't know the cause of the overheating (water pump recently replaced). -
Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 2004 2.2DCi 7 Turbo's, 3 Intercoolers, what do I d 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I'm sorry to say we bought the vehicle on Honest John's recommendations, I can see now why he withdrew this. I blame Renault meddling about with Nissan! Thanks, Peter -
Car choice dilemma - £5-7k 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I know the handling of this shape Focus to be top-notch, and I've seen a 2005 54-plate Zetec Climate with 40,000 miles for £6,800. I like the security of having at least a few months warranty left... Renault Clio Dynamique a/c 3dr - Smaller than the rest, but i drove one and liked it's stability and big-car feel, and it felt very responsive around town. Quite a lot of toys for the money too. Only driven the 1.4, and have found one an 06-reg for £6,600 with 10,000 miles, but I've also seen a 1.5 86bhp model for just £400 more, although with 30,000miles showing...not driven this model yet, but would I be right to assume it'll feel slow compared to the others? -
Daimler and Chrysler to split? 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Analysts suggested a Chinese carmaker bent on expansion would find it attractive if the price was right, while linking Chrysler up with Renault or Volkswagen could offer small-car expertise Chrysler lacks. If the poor range sold by Chrysler UK (except 300C) is anything to go by the future is certainly not too rosy. Any one want a Chrysler...................? -
Write off value advice & what new car? 31 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I've been looking at the Mark 4 Fiesta, about a 1998 or 1999 plate really, with the 1.25 engine as from what I can gather the 1.3 engine of this age is having some problems. I also like the Renault Clio of about the same age but would like the RT model as it has a higher spec but there arent many of them around that I can afford. I've considered the Seat Ibiza of the same age and although I like the look of it I don't have a clue about them. -

Fiat Doblo roadtest - V.long!!!!!!!!!! 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My dad is in a wheelchair and the conversion was carried out by Motorbility. I usally drive a P reg. Renault Clio 1.2 RL oasis, which I love. I will use Whatcars criteria (sorry HJ) since I will ramble and forget items if I don?t. 1st ? performance. I have found the torque more the adequate, the pull in all gears from 1750 is good, but I miss the power Renault. -
Sports potato! 8 May 2020 (Forum)
So low pressure it barely felt like it had a turbo but it had to be dialled down to prevent it eating the Renault gearbox. They were comfy and I admit to liking the 440 but sporty it wasn’t even in this top of the line model. Numb steering, clunky gearbox and rubbery handling. Not worth the money. Volvo 480 Turbo - As above, not worth the money over the ES. -
Choosing an MPV 14 May 2007 (Forum)
For the readers of this forum, I though it might be interesting to here what we arrived at and why. Renault Espace: hard to find newish examples in our price bracket. Getting in to back row is tricky, children cannot tip the seat up themselves it requires two hands. Rear seats don?t fold in to floor leaving all the hassle that we have with the Galaxy seating arrangements still to live with. -
Audi a1 sport or Ford Fiesta Ecoboost s line - Can’t decide what car to get need help 1 Feb 2020 (Forum)
•looks amazing This car will Be for a long time and I will take great care of it so I want it to suit and be right for me. (I bought a 2015 Renault Clio in 2019 too but it was giving me anxiety because it rattled like, well, a rattle. Anyhow. My issues with the Audi. The inside is crap. The screen looks like an old Nokia 3310 quality. It’s so so small, 3 doors and I get so stressed when people Get in the back in case they scratch the paint lol.
