KIA Sedona 2009 - Engine Management Light 10 May 2015 (Forum)
So firstly, any ideas what the job might be? I suspect it might be something to do with poor quaity fuel and I advised her to start using Shell Nitro+ before she spent that money. Good advice?? -
zafira 2.0 dti - egr cleaning 11 Nov 2011 (Forum)
hi , iv had problems for the last few months with the service light coming on and restricting the car to 2500 rpm, i had the codes read and found out it was the egr valve and a glow error,, the guy told me 8 times out of ten you can clean it and armed with that i gave it ago , iv cleaned the egr valve best i could using carb cleaner , while i was at it i cleaned what i think is the inlet manifold? where the egr valve connects,i had to undo the fuel lines/injectors to get this off for cleaning.. anyway iv put it all back together and now the car just will not start iv tried to blead it but the injectors are a night mare to get to and i managed to get one off theres barely any diesel coming through any one got any ideas whats gone wrong? -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 04 2.2 Intermittent loss of power when acceleratin 23 Feb 2011 (Forum)
There's no problem in 1st gear, but occasionally in 2nd, and around 50% of the time in the higher gears, the car pinks at around 2,800-4,000 rpm. It feels as though the injector or fuel line is starving the engine of diesel for a split-second, similar to the effect of a faulty lumbar sensor. It makes the car jerk about 4-8 times, then it rectifies itself at around 4k rpm. (It's a similar sensation to hitting the brakes for a split-second when speeding up.) -
Citroen Synergie - Synergie fault codes 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I find it strange that, with never having a starting problem before, without warning, a pump packs up and now I am getting fault codes which I am told is something to do with diesel pressure. Any ideas on whether this is worth spending more money on? -
Hyundai Trajet MPV (2000 - 2008) - 04 2000 Engine will not start 18 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Diesel Trajet Automatic, 35,000 miles, FHSH and been very reliable so far. Filled up with biodiesel about two weeks ago and the car has been running very well. This morning, the car started OK and idled OK, but had no power. -
Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo's Reliability 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I know a new guy has taken over at Alfa (German chap from BMW) - can anyone tell me whether Alfa's are more reliable now - would YOU buy one?! I'd love a petrol, but I'm told the diesels seem more reliable plus there is the added bonus of better fuel consumption and torque. PLEASE can some of you tell me what you think of the 156/159 reliability... shall I take the plunge? Shall I go for a 159 rather than a late 156? -
Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - Ownership experiences 1.6 VVT/1.4/1.7TD 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I would be particularly interested in views on this engine as it does appear to be new-ish, so would like to know if there are any problems, usual fuel consumption etc. I have not ruled out the 1.4 (looks OK on paper...) or the 1.7 TD, but this is likely to be more expensive to buy; not sure my mileage ( diesel. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated - thank you in advance! -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Smoking VAG TDI engine 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Oil consumption is negligible. but the fumes have a really acrid smell which is particularly noticible on a damp day. I am treating the fuel with Millers Diesel clean. Are there any othetr checks i can make to help reduce the fumes? Cheers, -
Y reg E Class v 55 reg Signum? 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
This is costing me £410/month on finance and at 20k a year is doing twice the mileage I anticipated - 27 mpg and two services a year. I'm looking for a diesel estate and a spend of £11-12,000. I prefer what I see as the added security of a main dealer purchase and am prepared to sacrifice a bit of fuel ecomonomy (will accept high 30's mpg) for a little added performance My heart says go for a 5/6 year old E Class of 5 Series. -
How do I replace my Impreza? 12 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Performance, handling and reliability are priorities. Badge and status are irrelevant. I drive over 15k miles per year, so a Diesel seems to make sense. If my next car returns 45mpg, i will save £1300 a year on fuel alone. A no brainer. I don't need a big car, something Golf sized would be ideal, certainly no bigger. Aircon and a decent sound system are essentials. -
Hot Weather - a Warning 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Strong smell of petrol round front of house she says, distinctly odd I think, as we run a brace of diesels. Then remember the mower fuel. Check reveal that petrol vapour has "blown" the container splitting the seam, fortunately only extent of a pinhole, but nonetheless shelf is well damped and paint bubbled. -
Fiesta '96(P) 1.8D takes ages to start! 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a 1996 (P) mark IV Fiesta with the 1.8 Endura diesel engine which has covered (allegedly) 50,000 miles from new. I have only owned the car a month and in that time had it serviced, which included oil & filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change, cam belt change, brake fluid and engine coolant replacement and today changed the glow plugs. -
Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0). Gadgets are compelling, but I've almost disregarded the Primera despite its tech, because it looks so dull! -
Fitting Intercooler to Pug 306 HDi 90 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've just handed back a '03 plate Volvo V40 diesel with the 115bhp lump when I left the company. I am now running about in a Pug 306 HDi 90 that used to belong to SWMBO. It is great on the handling side, but I am missing the extra bhp. I have read on the forums that the tuning boxes that plug in to the common rail just over fuel and chuck out lots of smoke. -
Primera\'s Air Con 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Quick question for Dave N, and others too I have just noticed a water leak, with water dripping onto the steering rack. I could not see where it was coming from, and on removing the fuel filter housing (diesel model), have found water dripping from a small plastic stub pipe passing through the bulkhead The water is clear and is not coolant, and I therefore assume it to be condensate from the air condtioning. -
Shogun Sport 2.5td 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The Shogun (not sport) is a different, and somewhat more old-fashioned body shell, I think. Which is the best engine in that one ? I am not concerned in the slightest with fuel consumption. M. p.s. and yes, I have read the CbyC Breakdown. -
If my car fails its MoT 30 Oct 2002 (Forum)
With that in mind, given that I don't have the time to nurse another banger, what should I get? I'm willing to spend up to £4k. Priorities are space, low insurance, manouverability, and fuel economy, although lots of toys and a bit of performance would be nice. Age isn't as important. I don't want anything larger than 1.8 litres (petrol) or 2.0 (diesel). Not particularly keen on superminis, definitely no people carriers, and Mondeo/Passat size is larger than I need, although I wouldn't necessarily mind that. -
MB reliability 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Sorry to go on about this again but this is becoming my hobby horse. Friend I know bought a new C Class Turbo diesel. Delivery came just before Xmas. The car was 3 months late due to strikes in the factories in SA. He had the car literally one day when it broke down. Returning from a funeral with wife and friend on board the car totally conked out on a hill. -
Which Hatchback? Petrol or Diesel? On a £4,000 budget? A car for life? 6 Feb 2011 (Ask HJ)
My wife and I are looking for a second car. Our current car, a Skoda Superb is our current and only car and is, and will continue to be, used for commuting... -
Why are no small city cars available with a decent automatic transmission? 3 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
Don't you think it's about time that the manufacturers produced an autotrans that was suited to small/city cars? It seems crazy to me that Mercedes-Benz,...
