  Barons Classic Action Results, Sandown Park, March 23rd 30 Mar 2010 (News)
    Barons’ busy sale at Sandown Park on March 23rd saw 73% of the cars on  offer find new homes. “We had a really varied selection of classics and collectors’ cars from the 1920s up to more recent years, which generated a lot of interest from enthusiasts, and there was a good atmosphere in the room,” said Barons’ MD Laurence Sayers-Gillan.

  The registration ‘JGR 1’ and trio of superb 1950s XKs  lead the entry for Barons’ Jaguar Heritage Sale at Sandown Park on 14 April. What could be a more suitable registration number for a Jaguar than ‘JGR 1’? This distinctive plate could grace any Jaguar of any age (estimate £25,000-£35,000).

  Barons' 29 October auction at Sandown Park, Esher has entries from restoration projects, including a 1954 Ford Anglia, to a 2007 Jaguar Sovereign originally supplied to the Royal household. The 1954 Ford Anglia 100E bears a Ford Sidevalve Owners Club badge.

  £250,000 Bentley sells or £38,200 at Barons 6 Aug 2013 (News)
  The Bentley was followed by a very fine 1978 Aston Martin V8 Oscar India, which sold for £35,000. One of just 16 examples to feature the ZF five-speed manual transmission, this car had come from the Sir Arnold Clark private collection and is now never likely to be worth less.

  Mazda MX-5 GT On Podium at Donington 12 May 2011 (News)
  The Mazda MX-5 GT secured its second podium finish of the race season in the two hour Britcar Production GTN Championship 2011 at Donington Park circuit on Sunday. This puts the Mazda second in its class in the championship. Qualifying on Saturday saw the Mazda Financial Services and Motul backed Mazda MX-5 GT placed eighth in class on the grid.

  It was the same for the 1967 Toyota 2000GT, we reckoned would have no problem reaching its $650,000-850,000 estimte, but even so, the final price of $1,155,000, was a bit of a shock, no doubt jacked up by a bidding war on the day. Will this see a further push in the values of these fine cars? We'll keep a watching brief. The rest of the million sellers are listed below. Other cars that did well on the day were the 1988 Porsche 959 ‘Komfort’, which sold for $770,000; the 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Mulliner Park Ward Drophead Coupe for $577,500; and a gorgeous 1965 Lamborghini 350 GT Coupe for $550,000 - perhaps these ugly ducklings are about to turn into a very fine swan.

There are two Red Label Arnages - a 2000 example (£25,000-£30,000) and a 2001 version (£28,000-£30,000) - plus a 1997 Turbo R L (£17,500-£19,000) and a 1997 Brooklands (£9,500-£11,500).

  Half of drivers drive too tired, says Brake 25 Jul 2013 (News)
  .” The charity is campaigning to allow drivers who oversleep at motorway service stations to pay for parking retrospectively to avoid a fine, and is calling on the government to provide more stopping areas for drivers to take a break. Brake advises drivers who get tired to stop for a caffeinated drink and have a short nap before moving on or, if they’re on a long journey, it advises that drivers have a longer sleep.

  With all proceeds going to the Kent Air Ambulance, the classic day out, held near Honnington on 1 September, not only promises a fine selection of exotica, but also helps a great cause. For 2013, the organisers promise it will be bigger and better than ever. Again held as part of the Honnington Country Fair, for 2013 there will now be a ‘Premier Vehicle’ display stand, which consists of any vehicle of any nationality and any age with two, four or more wheels.

  We spotted a fuming crew member of the Citroen DS having navigation problems driving the lift to the superb dinner tonight… never mind the lift buttons, the Citroen in the car park is showing signs of another hydraulic issue, this time the front is stuck in maximum height mode. Car 3, the Model T Ford of Nicky Bailey, continues to trundle along, but the driver reckons it's down on performance… he blames a batch of poor petrol.

  Barons’ sale at Sandown Park on 25 February features a wide selection of classics spanning 90 years, giving classic car fans plenty of opportunities to buy something new and exciting for the upcoming season.   The entry list includes a Jaguar D-type replica circuit racer originally constructed for Ron Lea, a 1958 Land Rover, a Wood & Pickett Mini cabriolet once owned by a movie star, a Lotus Cortina, a Series II E-type Jaguar, some very fine Bentleys and a rare, 1928 fabric-bodied Rover, which had just one owner for its first 78 years.

  Meanwhile a recreation by RAM of the famed D-Type, in the equally renowned Briggs Cunningham colours, changed hands for £30,000. Developing something of a reputation for the sale of fine classic commercial vehicles, Historics was able to offer one of just four 1951 Austin A70 Hereford Pickup’s known to still exist, and the plush ‘workhorse’ didn’t disappoint as it was sold for £17,500, comfortably over its estimate.

  And following the death of its owner, the car is heading for auction with Historics on 30 November. It's an interesting, if baffling, story, In 1985, the owner parked his pride and joy in the hallway of his home, with the intention of admiring it there just for the day. But in the end, it never emerged again during his life. Now, more than 10,000 days later, the front door to the hallway was opened, and the car wheeled onto the patio on the first part of its journey to auction.

  ‘Old friends’ looking for new homes at Barons Barons’ Classic, Historic and Sports Car sale at Sandown Park on June 7th features several cars going under the hammer after many years in their respective vendors’ ownership. The superb, highly original, Ford Thunderbird convertible was bought new in 1965 by the vendor's father.
