  • Luxury German Make / 4 seat cabriolet - Breakdown 1 hour/ 50 miles after purchase 20 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The main dealer believe the problem is contaminated fuel, but can not confirm whether this was the small amount of fuel in the car when purchased or the fuel I put in immediately after purchase (I put in the correct fuel and the receipt to prove it).   They now say it is not a warranty issue due to it being a result of outside interference and so want to charge me to get the car back (saying all they want to do is repair the car and get the money, washing their hands of the issue) .

  • 318d sept 2013 - car allowance own vehicle + fuel paid TAX Help!!! 6 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi, Hopefully some one can offer some advice.. I am going to get 21k + 400p/month car allowance + all fuel paid company fuel card. What are the implications tax-wise i am presuming from research that; 1. The car allowance as it is rolled into my salary will be deducted @ 20%. I.e£320.00 in hand. 2. The fuel card will be seen as benefit in kind, how then will this affect monthly cash in hand amount, given that i estimate 25k business miles & 5k personal. 3.
  • Renault Clio I Petrol - Run out of petrol. Won't start after refuel. 1 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I can hear the fuel running. Check all the fuses. Checked the inertia cut out switch. Confirmed I have a spark. Plugs wet with fuel after turning it over in vain. Checked all the obvious HT and LT connections and the injector wiring connection.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 2.2 HDI fuel cap open-error because it isn't. 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
But it's been whizzing up all manner of rubbish intermittent error messages. The one that's a constant is the 'fuel caop open' one-a recent event. Now the fuel flap itself needs extra oomph to open it, but has done for ages. As usual, what's making this warning & how do I fix it? I've had a really good look around the fueling area & can't see any obvious catches/sensors.

  • Peugeot 406 - Fuel Pump on Peugeot 406 2.1 LX DT 8 Jul 2011 (Forum)
It wouldnt do it all of the time, just some of the time but bit of an annoyance when you discover the lack of power steering and silence when the car is in motion!! Anyway I got it checked out on Tuesday and found out today that the Fuel pump is on its way out and it wouldnt be worth repairing it even with a reconditioned or second hand pump and was told to 'Ditch the car'. Anyway was quoted £800 which I assume is for the parts/labour too but looking at legit websites, Fuel pumps for my type of car average around £100.
  • Peugeot 306 - 1998 306 dturbo serious misfire and smoke 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
i have re-bled the system and checks for fuel leaks and this appears to be ok i thought it might be a blown turbo? or perhaps a dodgy fuel injection pump? I keep the car well serviced and its done 160k any advice on where to start would be welcome thanks will
  • KIA Rio (2005 - ) - 1.5 CRDi Fuel consumption 18 Mar 2010 (Forum)
So by rights I should be getting 55ish MPG from the Kia as are some of my kin in their Kia's, Clio's etc. Any thoughts. Can the fuel economy be reduced by 25% just because it isn't bedded in? How long has your Kia taken to "bed in". Anyone actually gone back to a Kia dealer and they found a problem with the fuel system or ECU or sensors etc.
  • Diesel power - a compromise? 2 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Problem is i drive roughly 12-15k miles a year so not really diesel justifcation territory but would give me big fuel bills on say a golf GTI. Diesel or petrol... want more power / more thrill but fuel bills... :( An older type-r / golf GTI or even a Focus ST are all so very appealing but could live with the fuel bill??
  • new Citroen C5 poor fuel consumption 17 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The new car (same spec except the Exclusive trim) is, on average, returning at least 10% worse fuel consumption. The M4 motorway run is about 40/41 mpg, about 34 mpg around town and an appalling 37 mpg on a recent trip to Cornwall! Both cars are used mainly for long-distance driving, both run on fully synthetic oil.
  • VW Passat temp & fuel question 28 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I also had a leaking heater matrix which I had replaced and for about a week the temp needle behaved itself, but soon after it went back to jumping between zero and half. I'm stumped! Got no idea what to do about either problem suffice to say the fuel economy is upsetting and the temp needle problem is an annoyance. Can anyone make some suggestions as to why the fuel eco or temp gauge are the way they are; since VW can't answer the question. Maybe I can get some ideas and go back to them or some other garage and have then check out a few things.
  • Fuel saving devices - Ecotek and Magnets 29 May 2003 (Forum)
Assuming that I car has has an emissions test and returns with a lambda of 1.00 then as I understand it the car has a ideal fuel/air ratio - why would weakening the mix improve either performance or fuel consumption? If it would be beneficial to allow more air into the mix then instead of computerised engine managmenet systems the technology of the value would be incorporated into the engine design.
  • Rover 200SDi not Revving No Power ! 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The RAC couldn't rind the problem and now a rover dealership have had it for 5 days and are running out of idea's ????? Some things I do know : The fuel is diesel i ran about 120 miles on the tank before the problem. The fuel filter seems ok and no air in the system. The intercooler/airfilter are letting air into the manafold. Rover are talking about trying a different fuel pump off another car but could a faulty fuel pump still allow the car to tick over so well ?

  • Next fill of biodiesel 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
It's not actually illegal to run on cooking oil, whatever the quantity - it's just that you have to register with C&E to pay the fuel duty on the cooking oil you use as fuel. If you pay 35p a litre for the oil and 28p a litre for the fuel duty, then you can still save a lot of money.

  • Ford fiesta - Fuel gage/sender fiesta 28 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I inherited a ford fiesta zetec Mk6 2007 which has been stood for a good 14 months if not longer. When I first acquired the car the fuel was on red and the light was on. She did start on the old fuel. I went to get about £5 worth of fuel so I could get the car home. On the way home (roughly 2miles) that £5 I put in did absolutely nothing to the petrol gage.
