  • Small Car - Big Person 27 Sep 2018 (Forum)
So looking for small/medium car (manual if possible)  In theory price is not important except that the point of this is to save a bit of money so the overall cost/mile is the most significant factor (within limits). Would buy new/cash, but consider pre-reg/broker. Most likely petrol (but would consider hybrid/electric if the maths worked out better, which looking at the prices probably wont).
  • Pick Up Insurance - commercial vehicle?? 10 Sep 2017 (Forum)
He was paying about £400 fully comp for the VW , he's rang around a few companies who state the same - "commercial vehicle sir" and are saying approx double that amount. The car was bought brand new from an import company but its value is less than the Alahambra. Its main use will be SD& P and to and from a permanent place of work. With of course weekend trips to muddy places. Anybody heard of this before?
  • Honda/Mercedes - Another which car thread. 30 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I prefer diesel as I do around 25k a year, and I need a boot size at least similar to my existing car. Reliability is of paramount importance but looks come into play obviously. I've test driven the newer civic and it's a nice car, but the 1.6d lacks the power I'm used to in my 2.2. It's not necessarily a deal breaker though as I know it's very economical.

  • Peugeot 205 Sceptre - Are all modern tyres like this? 4 Jan 2016 (Forum)
But this tyre and others I have always thought seem thin and soft compared to tyres of old. So who makes a tough tyre suitable for rough country roads, longevity is not too important but resonable/good grip is. Thanks for reading, Guzzian.
  • James May's Peoples Car - Vandalism 16 Dec 2014 (Forum)
This stopped being amusing on Top Gear a long, long time ago, certainly long before they did it with a Beetle. Doing it with cars that, by definition, have historical importance (otherwise they wouldn't be in the program) is indefensible. You are supposed to get that kind of thing out of your system by setting fire to your own, badly made Airfix models when you are, say, about 8.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 1.8 VVT reliability question 7 Dec 2014 (Forum)
What I want is a car which is refined on the motorway and everything I have read about the vectra says it is up there with the best. This is more important than ultimate handling give what it will be used for. Views and experiences would be appreciated.
  • Airbag warnings stickers- can I remove them? 7 Oct 2014 (Ask HJ)
My new BMW 4 Series Convertible has airbag warning stickers on both sides of the passenger visor, which I find to be a distraction. Can I remove them?...
  • Driving in Europe with HID Xenon lamps!! 28 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I know that height adjustment is automatic, but I think that sales should make buyers aware of such an important issue when ordering with Xenons as normal light deflectors do not work. Has anyone here had these problems too, or in the case of driving abroad, found an easier way then removing the bumper on a VAG car to adjust them for driving on the right?
  • Can you recommend a small, four-door car? 20 Jun 2014 (Ask HJ)
What would you recommend to replace a Citroen DS3? I need four-doors with grandchildren and I'd like a higher driving position. I'm looking to buy a new...
  • Various - Help me choose! 25 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I intend to keep the car for about 8 years and am therefore concerned about reliability.  I care about responsiveness and fuel economy but depreciation isn't of much importance. I will be buying brand new.   What are your views?   Thanks!
  • EU Tyre ratings 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)

They get an OK reveow at autoexpress http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/60115/nexen-nblue-hd Looks an OK write up not too good on dry grip according to them but OK   Anyway my question can any one find or knows what the pass criteria are for EU tyres?
  • Help - which used family car to buy? £5500 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have had a good look around auto trader and local car supermarket, and went to a car auction at Bruntingthorpe this morning but I just don't seem to be getting much for my money. Low running costs are important to me.  I had been looking at Focus Estates, I can get a 2008 1.6tdci with 80,000 on clock, or a V50 2005 with around 60,000 on clock. I have read on here the sage of diesels repair costs and am now very hesitant to go for these though.

  • Safety Tips For Women Who Drive at Night 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Women Drivers are very sensitive while they are driving. Here I am sharing some important tips for women who drive at night. Specially women have to consider that never drive alone. If you must drive alone at night, take special care to keep yourself safe. * When driving, keep your doors locked and keep the windows either closed or mostly closed so a potential attacker could not reach in and get to you or to the door's unlock button.
  • BMW 118d vs 120d - Which one to go for? 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Hi I am looking at 2 Beemers, One is a 118d manual SE with quite a lot of extras including Start/Stop, Pro Sat Nav, heated seats etc, but missing a few things I really want, most importantly Blue Tooth preparation for pairing a mobile phone to it Other is a 120d M-Sport Auto, again with lots of extras, mainly the same as the above plus Bluetooth prep, and a few other things too (like memory seats), the Bluetooth prep is important to me, but so is fuel economy and it doesn;t have the start/stop All the reviews says the 118d is the one to go for, but this is a private purchase, not company purchase, so Road Tax is issue not company car tax.

  • KIA Venga - WOW Kia quality has shot up 10 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Lets hope they dont make the mistake of Honda, Toyota and Nissan and think they are more important than they are and start selling their cars at a premium.
  • Volvo V70 / Saab 9-5 estate - What estate for under £3k? 19 Oct 2010 (Forum)
But I don't tow anything and only do 10k miles a year (mostly local runs up to 25 miles, and an occasional motorway slog), so maybe the relative fuel economy bonus of a diesel isn't so important. - Good seats. I'm tall and my back suffers poor support. I've had Saabs and this Volvo, both of which have perfect seats. - Budget: under £3k really.   Any thoughts much appreciated.
