  • Scenic 03 - 1.9 Dci Fidji 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Since buying it from the main dealer last year, I have had trouble free motoring until now. Just before I bought the car, Renault fitted new brake pads to the front. However, as the cold weather has started, the breaks make a slight irritating squeal when I brake. Not a problem as it doesn;t happen all the time I brake, probably every 3 presses of the brake pedal on average.
  • Clio Engine Turns But Wont Fire 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I have a B-reg Renault Clio 1.2 Authentique, 19k miles. Normally I turn the ignition key to the point where the dash lights come on, wait for most of them to go out, turn the key another notch, and the engine fires almost instantly.
  • How do I get better fuel consumption 3 Jan 2005 (Forum)
However, the last fortnight I have used it to go to and from work, 1 mile to the motorway then cruising at 60mph for 15 miles and back off for another mile. I have managed to get 42mpg from it! I had it in at Renault garage who have done emissions test etc and say the engine is doing everything correctly. So what else can I do to my driving style? I normally switch up gears as soon as I can, rarely go over 70 on motorway.
  • I need help choosing a car 23 Oct 2004 (Forum)
So far I have "definitely" been about to buy (with reasons I haven't in brackets): Citroen Picasso (unreliable?) Mazda Premacy (NCAP 3*) Renault Scenic (unreliable?) Nissan Almera Tino (gut reaction, didn't like it when I met it) Then I started questioning whether we need an MPV and it was: Mazda 323 (safe? big enough?) Honda Civic (too small?)
  • Keep the bonnet shut!! 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
On non executive cars: Low brake fluid indicators are normal. Electronic dipstick is available e.g. Renault Scenic. Low coolant / overheating. Yaris has no temp gauge just blue thermometer on start up and red if things overheat. Batteries sealed for life but charge indicator obviously standard. Low washer bottle contents warning e.g.
  • Lagos ... Motoring hell! 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Also poholed and ditched... even more fun at 80km/h VEHICLES: Minibus taxis abound, plus ,millions of mopeds, normally with three occupants. Skoda, VW, Merc, Renault all well represented, as are Toyota, Nissan and Peugeot. Most vehicles seem to be Pug 504's (the circa 75 one!), favoured by govt departments, it wopuld appear. about 10% of all vehicles DON'T have some form of accident damage!
  • Not again - one for my personal team 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
All my children have come home to roost. You solved the motor caravan. How about this please? My lovely step daughter has a B reg Renault 5 Le Car (posh eh) by the name of Ronald, which is only marginally younger than she. I do my best and she thinks I am a genius because to date all the problems have been very basic. This one probably is too, but I'm not sure, so without telling her, I sneak into the back room to preserve my reputation.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Renault Clio 1.6 E Tech Evolution ('full' self charge hybrid) - Pro's: No advance payment. Intrigued by the drivetrain and have seen and read good things about how well it works. Semi local dealer (as per Zoe).
  • Picked up the Scenic today.... 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It's the refinement of the thing that gets me though - it's hard to believe this and the Mondeo run on the same fuel. The Renault engine is a little clattery under load when cold, but once warm it's smoother and quieter than the 1.6 petrol we also drove and in a different league to the admittedly olde worlde Mondeo. It has none of the rumble of a Ford or VAG diesel, just a slightly "ticky" background hum overlaid with the odd whistle from the turbo.
  • Ford Ka etc - Small city car - runabout/learner car 6 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I’m looking for a small city type car that I can use to pop into town and park easily, and that my 17 year old can learn to drive in. I have a hybrid Renault Arkana as my main vehicle, so a small manual gearbox car is all I’m looking for, A/C required. Hopefully when he’s passed his test, he will take it on, so must be very low insurance group too.
  • What car should I buy? 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I know next to nothing about cars (except how to drive them) so am looking for expert, or at least well-informed opinions on what I should get next. For the past 3 years I've had a Renault Megane (on finance). It's a fine car, but unfortunately it fails every MOT test, and the payments are now excessively more than the car is worth due to me agreeing to a ridiculous finance offer. Someone suggested I take it back to AvailableCar and work out a deal to end the agreement early since I'm well over halfway through.
  • I need your help about car selection 7 Dec 2018 (Forum)
In the end, I found 2-3 options to buy; Toyota Avensis T3, 2004, 109K miles, 1.8 petrol (700 pounds) Toyota Avensis T2, 2005, 130K miles, 1.8 petrol (500 pounds) Mazda 6 TS, 2007, 73K miles, 2.0 diesel (900 pounds) Renault Megane, 2006, 82K miles, 1.6 petrol (750 pounds) Note: All options has about 300 days MOT. I think first option (Avensis T3, 109K miles) is very suitable for me. What do you think?
  • Help needed with prospective used car purchase 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
My wife is now getting upset as I started looking again this morning at other makes of car, such as Volvo, and the ultimate sin of looking at Renaults and Citroens (we've had major problems with both in the past). I think what made me start looking elsewhere was I read yesterday that DPFs need to be changed (£3000+) or cleaned (£300+) at around the 80k mark.
  • Looking for no nonsense load swallower 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
But would be interested to hear any left field suggestions - Ssangyong Rodius, Chevrolet Orlando, etc. I have considered a used Grand Renault Espace or Peugeot 5008, but am put off by general negative reputation of these makes.  I have a Citroen which I have put 176k miles on from new, so am not afraid of going French, or something non Germanic.

  • Audi A4 Allroad - First Time Buyers help 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I have drawn up a short list of some possibles, with some price ranges as this is French market C3 or C4 Picasso (either semi or full automatic gearbox). (17000 Euros new C3 19000 Euros used C4) Renault Grand Scenic III (18500 Euros for slightly used) Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG (new 20000-24000) Euros other?   I would obviously preferred used but it looks like I have to consider new because the French do not like Automatic gearboxes and thus they are harder and more expensive.
  • Any - Left Hand Drive Cheapo MPV wanted for Portugal 26 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Budget around £2000 Looked at Eurovans (Citroen Evasion, 806, Ulysses) Ford Galaxy & floorpan clones, Renault Espace. Trouble is there are not many options for LHD MPV's of this age. Wondering if any Forum members have any other suggestions and of course any ideas of whether trade or private sale would be better...
  • SEAT Ibiza ST Reference 1.6 diesel - Fuel economy 2 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Living in Spain, we thought that we would look at the "local" manufacturer but before doing so we hired several cars - Seat Ibiza, Renault Megane, Citroen C3 and C4, Fiat Punto Eco, Ford Focus.  All diesel.  In May this year, after considerable deliberation, we purchased a Seat Ibiza ST 1.6 diesel.  With varied driving conditions - short journeys plus motorway trips of 200kms+, we have used: 40.7 litres diesel over 748 kms; 38.6 litres diesel over 718 kms; 42.1 litres over 789 kms.
  • This site is becoming a resource hog [Read only] 19 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Some of these adds would also be much better as an animated gif, they would use so much less resources than flash adds. The site is usually ok but with the combination of adverts I am getting now (from Renault) it a resource hog. My point is if you can't change the way the adverts work at the moment just make sure it dosn't get any worse in the future. A content driven website which mades money from adverts only works if it was visitors, if the adverts stop the visitors from using the site then it becomes a problem.
  • Engines - big and lazy or small and highly-strung? 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Particular favourites of mine have been - - the B-series Austin engine in my first car, the beloved A50 - the 2.0 Renault engine which I had in a 20TS and two 18 GTX estates in the 1980s - the V6 24v in the Laguna - the 1.8 XUD in the Peugeot 205 - the 2.5 TDI in the A4 Avant of blessed memory and the current VAG 2.0 TDI (though I believe both these can give trouble when they get to high mileages).
